<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Slip evacuation device.
The present invention relates to an evacuation device of the type which allows a person to pass from a high point to a low point by sliding along an elongated guide, a cable or a strip under the effect of its own weight .
Apparatuses of the type under consideration which are currently known are designed and suitable for moving a certain average weight. However, when the weight is too low (it is the case of a child for example), this weight is insufficient to produce displacement. On the other hand, when a person to be evacuated

The invention aims to provide an evacuation device of the type considered above which can be used by any person, whatever their weight.
The problem which the invention aims to solve is therefore to produce an evacuation device which allows the person to be moved to adjust the evacuation device according to his own weight, thus ensuring movement at a controlled and safe speed.

This problem is solved thanks to the invention by an evacuation device provided with an adjustable braking device, of simple construction and safe operation.
The main advantage of this evacuation device is the great safety it offers to people

In addition to its security advantage, the device according to the invention has the advantage of being reversible in the sense that when it has reached the end of its travel along the guide, it is ready to operate in the direction reverse without the need to completely scroll the guide as is the case with known devices. This results in a considerable increase in the degree and speed of use of the device, which further adds to the safety of those to be evacuated.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is an external view of an embodiment according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a partial sectional view of the device of Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a sectional view along line III-III of Figure 2.
- Figure 4 is a partial flow view of a second embodiment according to the invention.
The embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 uses a cable 1 of round section. Referring in particular to FIGS. 2 and 3, the device comprises two rollers 2, 3 fixed in rotation or inside a housing 10 open at one end. The cable 1 passes over the roller 2, is wound on the roller 3 and passes back over the roller 2. An end A of the cable 1 is intended to be fixed to any high available suspension point and the length B of the cable to the output from the housing 10 is free.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Inside the housing 10 is mounted a friction member 4 which has a surface suitable for cooperating with part of the surface of the cable 1.
The friction member 4 here consists of a plate but several plates could be provided.
The plate 4 is freely mounted on the rollers 2 and 3 and is pushed by the end of a threaded rod 5 which passes through the housing 10 and carries an external wheel 6.
The plate 7 serves as a nut for the threaded rod 5. By rotating the wheel 6, the threaded rod 5 moves relative to the nut 7 and the position of the friction plate 4 relative to the cable 1 varies. In the position illustrated in Figure 1, the plate 4 is spaced from the cable 1 and does not cooperate with it.
When the knob 6 is turned so as to advance the threaded rod 5 in the direction indicated by the arrow F, the plate 4 is carried against the cable 1 and presses on the surface of the latter with a pressure proportional to the degree of screwing of the threaded rod 5.
When a person is suspended from the device using a splint 11 for example, his weight drives the device along the free end B of the cable which runs on the rollers 2,3 but moving along of the cable will be made as a function of the degree of friction of the cable against the plate 4, that is to say as a function of the adjustment of the wheel 6. The user of the apparatus can thus, in a simple and safe manner, at the Using the wheel 6, adjust its descent speed according to its own weight.
FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary embodiment using a flat ribbon as an elongated guide.
This variant is similar to the embodiment of Figure 1 and the operation of the adjustable braking device is identical to that of the device incorporated in the device of Figure 1.
