<EMI ID=1.1>

<EMI ID=3.1>

Device for the milling of wound threads in the form of:
cakes.
The present invention relates to a perfec device -
tioned to perform the milling directly, possibly associated with a twisting or cabling operation,
a wire stored in the form of a crossed winding without cheeks,
eg cake or coil.
During the manufacture of chemical yarns and mainly glass yarns or rayon yarns, we receive
the material in the form of a coil generally of large diameter, on an inexpensive tube, mainly cardboard or thin plastic material, the diameter of which may be of the order of one hundred to three hundred millimeters, which makes it possible to carry out the unwinding at high speed.
In the remainder of the description, the invention will be described as applied to the glass strands received in the form of a cake during their spinning, but it is obvious that this is not limiting and that it can also be used for other materials, and other types of crossed windings without cheeks.
As a reminder, it will be recalled that the manufacture of glass strands (silionne) schematically consists in extruding molten glass through dies, the filaments leaving the die being drawn at high speed due to the traction exerted by the spindle. On leaving the die, the filaments receive a sizing and are wound up without twisting onto a cardboard support.
In general, the diameter of the winding support is, as said previously, between one hundred millimeters and three hundred millimeters, the most used diameters being between one hundred and sixty millimeters and two hundred millimeters and the winding speed being able to range from two thousand five hundred meters / minute to four thousand meters / minute or more. The windings have a weight which can vary from two hundred and fifty grams to eight kilograms of material, or even more than ten kilograms, the thickness of the thread on the support cardboard tube being low and generally between two and five centimeters.
The current trend is, on the one hand, to increase production speeds and, on the other hand, to increase the weight of the windings.
It is well known that before subsequent use, the untwisted son must, in most cases, receive a certain protective twist,. '. Variable depending on the applica-tions, intended to give cohesion to the filaments, arranged then helical, which improves the resistance to friction and, to a certain extent, the tensile strength.
This twist is communicated to the yarn during a milling and / or twisting operation.
In general, by grinding operation, we designate
an operation which consists in imparting the twist to the wire at the time of unwinding of the winding, the wire then being returned.
The term "twisting" denotes the operation which consists in imparting the twist to the yarn at the time of its winding.
In some cases, it is possible to combine the milling operation with a twisting operation. The invention is particularly suitable for looms allowing continuous milling and twisting.
Until now, it was accepted that it was impossible to perform, at least at industrial speed, a milling and / or twisting starting directly from a cake. Indeed, the cakes are non-rigid windings which tend to deform, which poses problems. To drive them in rotation and, moreover, due to the sizing, the turns of wire are stuck together and are consequently difficult to unwind regularly in the parade, as is generally done during a milling operation.
Consequently, in general, therefore, before milling and / or twisting, the yarn is transferred from the cake to a conventional support capable of being used on a mill and / or twisting machine. This prior unwinding operation is
<EMI ID = 1.1>
positively, possibly at variable speed, the rotation of the cake, for a constant linear wire speed. The tension of the cursor which goes up to the cake then makes it possible to easily release the turns from one another.
Now, we have found and this is what is the subject of the present invention, a new device which makes it possible to eliminate the transfer of the yarn between cake and spool on an intermediate twisting machine and makes possible the direct use of the cakes. on machine for grinding or for combined grinding and wiring, which eliminates an intermediate operation and brings clear advantages of improvement

processing operations.
The device according to the invention is particularly suitable for the milling-rotording or milling-cabling trades, but it is obvious that this is not limiting.
According to the invention, the device for unwinding
the parade of a spinning cake essentially comprises:
- a vertical spindle 1 driven in rotation, at constant or variable speed,
- Means for centering and positioning the cake on said spindle, means consisting essentially of two cones 2-8 placed in opposition and fitted at each end.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
- means for locking the two cones, characterized in that:
- the lower cone 2 is integral with the axis of the spindle 1 and is extended by a circular auxiliary centering element 6, of diameter less than the internal diameter of <EMI ID = 4.1>
- the maintenance of the cake between the two cones 2-8 being obtained by means of a locking element which connects the lower cone <EMI ID = 5.1>
a cap 9 which has a diameter greater than the external diameter
winding and which facilitates the release of the wire during unwinding and promotes the formation of the ball.
The cap associated with the upper cone is either immobilized against the surface of the cone, for example by virtue of the locking element, or forms a unitary whole with said cone.
In addition, in a preferred embodiment of the invention, one of the cones, preferably the lower cone,
is advantageously associated with an auxiliary guide and centering element, of circular shape, the diameter of which is less than the internal diameter of the winding and of length less than the length of the winding, said guide member being provided with junction with the locking element.
The cake is crushed by the clamping between the two cones, its diameter in the middle decreases slightly to come to rest against the auxiliary guide and centering element which keeps it perfectly in the axis of the spindle.
In this way, during the rotation, the cake is perfectly maintained on the one hand, by the cones placed at its ends and, on the other hand, in its middle part by the auxiliary guide and centering element, which allows it to be driven at high speed in rotation without excessive vibrations.
In addition, the presence of the cap in the vicinity of the upper cone facilitates the unwinding of the thread turns as they pass.
According to the invention, the junction and blocking element which connects the two cones and immobilizes the winding between them, is a removable element:
- which rests on the upper cone,
- passes through said cone and enters the internal recess of the cake,
- fits on the spindle axis,
- and fits on a fixed complementary part
In one embodiment, the junction and locking element consists of an element whose upper part bears on the upper cone, this element comprising a spring which tends to move it away from said cone, the lower part of the 'element opening into the recess of the cake and sliding on the axis of the spindle and comprising at its end a socket which engages with the junction means integral with the lower cone, such a corresponding system, by way of comparison, substantially to the "socket and bayonet" connection mode used for electric lamps.
The invention and the advantages that it provides will however be better understood by virtue of the exemplary embodiment given below and illustrated by the appended diagram which shows, in section view, an assembly in accordance with the invention.
As can be seen in the diagram, the device for blocking and unwinding in advance of a winding of thread in the form of a cake according to the invention, comprises:
- a spindle 1 driven in rotation and mounted on a frame in a conventional manner,
- a lower cone 2 integral with pin 1 and extended by a cylindrical part 3 of diameter less than <EMI ID = 6.1>
ment of wire 5. The cylindrical part 3 is extended by a ring 6, integral with the pin 1, which comprises at its upper part junction means 7. This ring 6 is of course of diameter also less than the internal diameter of the winding,
- an upper cone 8 comprising a base 9 larger than the outer diameter of the winding (cake) of thread 5 and which acts as a cap when unwinding to release the thread and promote the ball, - centering means and positioning constituted by a removable element 10 which passes through the upper cone 8 and which comprises:
. a base 11 on the cone 8,. an internal recess 12 which allows its centering on the top 13 of the spindle 1 and, consequently, promotes the maintenance, the centering and the driving of the cake,. a spring 14 placed between the base 11 and the upper part of 10 and serving as a clamping element of the assembly,. junction means 15 with the complementary junction means 7-
Advantageously, the base 9 which acts as a cap when unwinding is presented as shown in the diagram, in the form of a bell, the lower edge of which
16 spills out of the cake.
In the illustrated embodiment, the junction elements 7 and 15 are of the so-called “bayonet” type, which allows rapid and efficient unlocking and locking.
Thanks to the invention, it has been possible to use directly on a mill cakes of three kilograms, two hundred and twenty millimeters in external diameter and two hundred and fifty millimeters in length, at a spindle speed of five thousand revolutions / minute. , and this without causing excessive breakage and / or overvoltages, the quality of the yarn obtained, in particular the regularity of twist over its length being comparable to that of a yarn twisted in a conventional manner, that is to say .with. prior unwinding of the cake on an intermediate support serving to supply the mill.
It had already been proposed to use means for centering and positioning the cake on the spit using cones
(see in particular French patents 751,626 or 1,539,707 or American patent 1,898,131). However, these solutions have not been satisfactory and above all do not include a centering element.
The device according to the invention is particularly suitable for the milling of silionne threads, without twisting, resulting directly from spinning, that is to say in the form of cakes. Until now, in practice, these cakes were processed on a special controlled unwinding machine, the speed of which was capped at about 150 meters per minute.
On the other hand, with the application of the device according to the invention to an arrangement comprising in series:
- a rotating food spindle on which the cake from spinning is placed,
- a rotating receiving spindle,
- with continuous passage of the wire between these two spindles on references, it is possible to reach linear speeds of approximately 300 meters per minute, and even more if one takes into account the fact that the food spindle working according to the principle of the mill n 'is not limited in speed by the absence of a slider ring.
