<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

<EMI ID=6.1>

<EMI ID=9.1>

<EMI ID=11.1>

"Installation for the transport of live fish, in particular anesthetized fish, in an aqueous medium".
The present invention relates to an installation for the transport, in an aqueous medium, of live fish, in particular anesthetized fish, consisting of a tank and a device for supplying gaseous oxygen from the aqueous medium to the tank.
The transport of anesthetized fish is a techni- <EMI ID = 1.1>
ever increasing demand to bring live fish from one place
to another, has never experienced considerable growth. In fact, the devices for transporting anesthetized fish tested up to now have not yet given satisfaction, because they have various significant drawbacks, in particular, on the one hand, that of requiring a very large quantity of water compared load of transported fish and, on the other hand, lead to high mortality in fish due to settlement during transport. In fact, during heavy loading of anesthetized fish, it was found that the fish, after a few hours, settle to the bottom of the transport tank and form a compact mass. In this way, the fish is unable to breathe normally, the gills become blocked, the skins of the fish stick together to the blades, and thus quickly cause their asphyxiation.
In addition, with the transport devices known to date, it is impossible to obtain regular and uniform oxygenation of the aqueous medium in which the fish bathe.
The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide an installation, easily adaptable to any transport vehicle, suitable for the transport of live fish, in particular anesthetized fish, over long distances, under all conditions. climates and at any time of the year. The installation of the present invention will also allow fish transporters an appreciable saving of time, since they will no longer be required to change the water of the fish during transport, as was necessary with current devices, where, after for a while, the water was quickly polluted and could lead to the death of fish.
To this end, according to the invention, the installation for transporting, in an aqueous medium, live fish, in particular anesthetized fish, comprises means arranged to create an upward circulation of the liquid in the aforesaid medium.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the aforesaid means comprise at least one circulation pump, arranged to suck the liquida in the upper part of the tank and to discharge the latter near the bottom of the tank.
According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, the circulation pump comprises a duct fixed to
the tank and constituting the body of the pump, said duct being open at its two ends, the upper end of the duct being located below the level of the liquid and the lower end being located near the bottom of the tank, as well as means immersed in the liquid and arranged in the conduit to create a current of liquid flowing from the upper part of the tank to the lower part of the latter.
According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, the circulation pump comprises a duct fixed to
the tank and constituting the body of the pump, said duct being closed at its upper end and open at its lower end, the upper end of the duct being located either above or below the level of the liquid and the lower end being located near the bottom of the tank, a suction manifold located below the level of the liquid in the tank being fixed to said duct and opening into the latter, as well as means immersing in the liquid and arranged in the duct to create a current of liquid flowing from the upper part of the tank to the lower part of the latter.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the aforesaid means for creating a flow of liquid from the upper part of the tank to the lower part of the latter are constituted by a propeller mounted on a shaft coaxial with the duct and driven by a motor located outside the aqueous medium, said propeller being arranged between the suction manifold located substantially at an equal distance from the liquid level in the tank and from the bottom of the latter and the bottom of the tank.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the aforementioned gaseous oxygen supply device has its outlet orifice near the propeller and at a level slightly higher than that of the propeller.
The subject of the invention is also a transport vehicle provided with the aforesaid installation.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of the drawings, appended to this specification, which represents, by way of nonlimiting example, a particular embodiment of a fish transport installation according to the invention. .

In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
The installation 1, shown in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, for the transport of anesthetized fish in aqueous medium, comprises a tank 2 covered with an insulating material and a duct 3 for supplying gaseous oxygen to the aqueous medium 4 in tank 2, connected to a cylinder or an oxygen tank. The installation 1 is provided with means arranged to create an upward circulation of the liquid in the medium 4, for example a circulation pump 5 sucking the liquid in the upper part of the tank 2 and pushing it close to the bottom 6 of that -this. This pump 5 comprises a cylindrical duct 7 fixed to the tank 2, closed at its upper end 8 and open at its lower end 9, as well as a propeller 10 immersed in the liquid and arranged in the duct 7.
The suction manifold 11 of the pump 5, consisting of a perforated tube extending horizontally with respect to the bottom 6 of the tank, between the pipe 7 of the pump and the lateral face 12 of the tank, is located below of the liquid level 15 in the tank 2. The upper end 8 of the cylindrical body 7 of the pump is located at a level slightly lower than the level 15 of the liquid in the tank 2 while the discharge port of its lower end 9 is located near the bottom 6 of the tank 2.
The pump 5 includes a second suction manifold
13 located at a level slightly lower than the level 14 located at an equal distance from the level 15 of liquid in the tank and from the bottom 6 thereof. This manifold 13 consists of an orifice made in the duct 7 of the pump 5, a movable duct 16 coaxial with the cylindrical duct 7 controlled by a control lever 18 placed outside the tank allowing this orifice 13 to be closed by sliding of the mobile duct 16 on the duct 7 of the pump along the axis of
this last. When the movable duct 16 is lowered, lever 18 assumes the position 19 shown in Figure 1 in broken lines. A mesh element 20 of section substantially equal to the pipe 7 of the pump 5 and fixed to the latter, lines the orifice 13. The purpose of this mesh element 20 is to prevent the fish from closing off the suction orifice 13.
The propeller 10 mounted on a shaft 21 coaxial with the duct 7 and arranged between the secondary manifold 13 and the bottom 6 of the tank 2 comprises several blades so as to be able to effectively discharge the liquid towards the bottom 6 of the tank, two of these blades being represented at 22. This propeller 10 is driven by an electric motor 23 at variable speed located outside the aqueous medium. A slow speed is provided in order to prevent air being sucked into the liquid of the tank 2, which could immediately push back a certain quantity of oxygen from the liquid to the surface thereof and consequently cause its deoxygenation, a high speed driving the propeller so as to create an upward circulation of the liquid in the aqueous medium.
As can be seen more particularly in Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings, planar elements 24 passing through the axis of the duct 7 and regularly distributed in the latter, located below the propeller 10, make it possible to obtain a flow laminar of the liquid in the duct 7 and thus avoid the appearance of vortices in the area close to the propeller 10 inside the duct 7,
which would cause a significant pressure drop in the duct 7. To prevent the shaft 21 of the propeller 10 from being the seat of significant vibrations, the lower end of the shaft 21 is housed in a bearing 25 which s 'fits into a tube 26 coaxial with the shaft 21
of the propeller 10, this tube 26 being held by the planar elements 24.
According to the invention, the duct 3 for supplying gaseous oxygen has its outlet near and immediately above the propeller 10, which splits the gaseous oxygen into microbubbles while mixing it with the liquid in circulation way
to form a perfectly homogeneous mixture of liquid and oxygen,
thus making it possible to obtain a uniform and regular oxygenation of the entire mass of liquid in the tank 2 where the fishes bathe P. For this purpose, a diffuser 27 comes to line the orifice of the duct 3 for supplying gaseous oxygen .
A projecting element 28, located outside the cylindrical duct 7. serving to prevent eddies in the flow of liquid between the lower end 9 of the duct 7 and the bottom 6 of

among the fish in this area, is attached to the bottom
6 of the tank 2 and near the lower end 9 of the cylindrical duct 7 of the pump. A perforated plate 29, intended to distribute the upward movement of the liquid throughout the tank 2, is arranged near the bottom 6 of the tank and extends over its entire surface at an equal distance from the bottom, the lower end 9 of the pipe. cylindrical 7 of the pump being located below this perforated plate
29. The distance separating the bottom or the base 6 of the tank 2 and the perforated plate 29 is slightly greater than the height of the element.
28, this element 28 being of a length substantially equal to the diameter of the cylindrical duct 7 of the pump.
The tank 2 is equipped with a device 30 for filling the tank with water as well as a refrigeration device making it possible to adjust the temperature of the liquid it contains, for example, a coil 31 placed on the bottom 6 of the tank below the perforated plate 29. This coil 31 in which a regriferant fluid circulates is connected to un.groupe refrigeration 32.

separating the lower ends of two immediately adjacent elements belonging to the series of elements 37 to 40 or 41 to 44 being substantially equal, the lower end of element 37 being located at a level slightly lower than level 14 located at an equal distance between the liquid level 15 in the tank and the bottom 6 thereof. The difference in level separating the lower end of element 40 and the lower end of element 41 is greater than the difference in level separating the lower ends of two immediately neighboring elements belonging to the same series.
The movable pipe 16 is lifted by sliding it on the cylindrical body 7 of the pump 5 by means of the control lever 18, so that water can enter the body 7 of the pump through the manifold 13. Water is introduced into

the pumping device 34 of the tank 33 of anesthetic or sedative siuticn will depend on the height of the water level in the tank and will therefore be proportional to the quantity of fish introduced into the tank. In addition, when the liquid level reaches the element
42, the rapid speed of the electric motor 23 driving the propeller 10 engages automatically so as to obtain an upward circulation of the liquid in the aqueous medium of the tank 2. Once the liquid reaches a level sufficient to penetrate into the manifold 11 of pump 5, it is closed. collector
13 by lowering the movable duct 16 by means of the lever 18. If the loading of fish in the tank 2 is done by means of an automatic loading device, the element 44, when the liquid in the tank 2 reaches its end lower, automatically blocks this device.
A housing 51 covered with an insulating substance, fixed to the tank 2, containing a certain. number of fish, plunging into the liquid in tank 2, the upper end of this chamber being closed and the lower end open, a resistor 52 intended to heat the liquid in the chamber as well as a sensitive electric control device 53 the movements of the fish in the chamber 51, cooperate with the means for dosing the solution of anesthetic cu sedative in the aqueous medium. A valve 54 is arranged on the upper end of the chamber 51 so as to allow the circulation of the liquid from the tank 2 through the chamber.
The resistor 52 is heated in the well 51 so as to raise the temperature of the liquid therein. By this rise in temperature, the anesthetized fish in the compartment tend to wake up. If none of the fish in the box 51 move after a determined period, the electrical device 53 with which the box 51 is equipped blocks the pumping device
34 of the anesthetic or sedative solution reservoir for a certain time, in particular when the latter continues to deliver a determined dose of anesthetic or sedative product per unit of time during transport.
On the other hand, if one of these fish wakes up partially and moves, its movement will be recorded by the electrical device 53 of the lodge in which it is located, which will re-establish contact and activate the pumping device 34 which will deliver an additional quantity. determined of anesthetic or sedative solution in the tank 2.
Once the anesthesia control has been established, the valve 54 opens and the liquid in the tank 2 can again circulate through the chamber 51.
The energy necessary for the operation of the installation of the present invention is supplied by an alternator 55 which

electric.
A device. opening 57 for loading fish is arranged at the top of the tank 2. This device
57 consists of a cover, an orifice being made on this cover to allow the gases formed inside the tank and
<EMI ID = 11.1>
positive 58 for unloading fish is arranged on the side surface 12 of the tank 2, near the bottom 6 thereof.
As has already been defined, the installation according to the present invention prevents the fish from dying by asphyxiation due to settlement, thanks to a current of liquid flowing from the upper part of the tank to the lower part thereof. This water circulation, of uniform thrust, distributes the major part of the fish as in figure 1, that is to say either the head down and the tail up, or the tail down and the head up. . In the first case, the oxygen-rich water passes through the mouth of the fish, reaches the gills and comes out through the gills. In the second case, the water enters through the gills, oxygenates the gills and comes out through the mouth. In addition, the oxygen-rich water circulates around each fish, which allows perfect oxygenation of the entire respiratory system of the animal (skin + gills).
As can be seen in FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawings, the loading of large-sized fish P requires an input of smaller-sized fish p. The purpose of small fish is to plug the voids between large fish. Smaller fish can possibly be replaced by
materials of higher density than water.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way
limited to the embodiment described and that many modifications
can be made without departing from the scope of this patent.
