Abstract

Preformed slag for use in a bottom blown converter comprises >=70% CaO, >=1.5% SiO2, >=5% Al2O3, >=2.5% Fe2O3, >=2% MgO, the CaO content being pref. 80-85% and the MgO 7-10%. The slag may be used either with hematite ores or with ores contg. high P. In either case the slag may be introduced as fine powder, by blowing through the tuyeres with the oxygen or in bulk from the top of the furnace.
