<EMI ID=4.1>

Egalement suivant l'invention, on réalise

<EMI ID=10.1>

tank and in particular in the crucible of a blast furnace. preferably at the level of the main nozzles.
It is known practice to replace part of the coke in the charge of a blast furnace and part of the hot wind blown into the main nozzles by a certain quantity of hot reducing gases injected into the crucible of the blast furnace. These reducing gases are injected at a high temperature and mainly contain-Ce and

Such a replacement is especially recommended with a view to reducing the consumption of coke, which is an expensive fuel and sometimes difficult to supply. We

and reducing gases is covered by this route. In this case, apart from its function of carburizing the metal, the coke would then only play a role of refractory mechanical support carrying the solid charge and allowing the decantation of the cast iron and the slag.
It is currently known that there are currently several processes for manufacturing reducing gases, for example that by catalytic oxidation with water vapor or by partial oxidation with oxygen, applied to gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons.
Furthermore, with the aim of diversifying the energy sources used in the steel industry, the applicant has also already recommended producing reducing gases from a liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon or from a solid carbonaceous material, such as coal, using top gas as an oxidizer.
In '.. all cases, the reducing gases obtained are heated to a temperature between 17000C and 2500 [deg.] C to be injected into the crucible of the blast furnace. Such high temperatures can be reached in several ways, but excellent results have been obtained according to a process recommended elsewhere by the applicant, by heating these gases in a plasma medium. This technique is particularly advantageous from the perspective of a future decrease in the relative cost of electric power, following the advent of nuclear electric current.

The present invention relates to a process specially designed for either heating or producing and heating, in a plasma medium, reducing gases.
to be injected into a shaft furnace and in particular into the crucible of a blast furnace, via the main wind nozzles.
The method, object of the present invention, is essentially characterized in that the main nozzles are fitted with plasma furnaces, preferably adjacent to said nozzles, in that these furnaces are fed.

emitted in said ovens, with the consequence of wearing
at high temperature, between 1700 [deg.] C and 2500 [deg.] C
the gas column passing through said plasma furnace and
which simultaneously causes the circulation of another intense alternating current through the load between the gas columns leaving the main nozzles grouped three to three and spaced 120 [deg.], the total number of
main nozzles being a multiple of three.
According to an operating mode of the invention, one causes the circulation of an intense alternating current - through the charge between the gas columns leaving the main nozzles and grouped three to three and spaced 120 [deg.], By establishing a connection electric between
the three main nozzles constituting each group, this electrical connection comprising an appropriate alternating current source.
According to a variant of the previous operating mode, one causes the circulation of an intense alternating current through the load between the gas columns leaving the main nozzles grouped three to three and spaced at 120 [deg.], By establishing an electrical connection between the respective circuits ensuring the circulation of an intense alternating current in the plasma jet (s) emitted in the furnaces equipping each of the three main nozzles, this electrical connection comprising a suitable alternating current source.
According to the invention, an electrical insulation that is as perfect as possible is produced between the main nozzles and the plasma furnaces with which they are equipped.
Also according to the invention, one realizes
electrical insulation as perfect as possible between the main nozzles and the walls of the shaft furnace equipped with said main nozzles.
The injection of the hot reducing gases into the shaft furnace is advantageously controlled, using as action variables the electrical parameters of the circuits relating to the alternating currents superimposed on the plasma jets produced in the plasma furnaces and on the gas columns exiting the main nozzles. .
Figures 1 and 2 attached are given by way of non-limiting example, in order to make the subject of the present invention fully understood.
FIG. 1 schematically represents the arrangement of a group of three main nozzles equipping a blast furnace into which hot reducing gases are injected, according to the process of the invention. Figure 2 shows a variant of Figure 1.
According to figure 1, the blast furnace (1)
is lined with main nozzles (2) grouped three to three and spaced 120 [deg.] from each other. These main nozzles (2) are equipped with plasma furnaces (3) intended to heat the reducing gases to be injected into the blast furnace.

In addition, another intense alternating current is simultaneously caused to flow through the feed between the gas columns leaving the main nozzles (2). This alternating current circulation

circuits (4), this link comprising an appropriate current source.
According to Figure 2, the arrangement differs from that of Figure 1 only in the manner of causing the flow of an intense alternating current through the. charge between the gas columns leaving the main nozzles (2). Alternating current circulation is ensured by establishing an electrical connection (5) between the *! nozzles (2), this electrical connection comprising a source. appropriate current.
Although several operating modalities of the process according to the invention have been described in detail ---- above, it is obvious that many variants can be used without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Thus, for example, the electrical diagrams mentioned relate to three-phase alternating currents but one can obviously use polyphase currents according to the interest or the necessity presented by such use.
Regarding the circulation of currents

plasma ovens or gas columns coming out of the ..
main nozzles, it is well known that these currents must naturally be in phase to obtain the additional effects sought.
All the resources of the plasma technique are also applicable to plasma furnaces equipping the main nozzles of the shaft furnace to ensure efficient injection of hot reducing gases into said shaft furnace. One can cite for example the optimum number of furnaces, their shape, their arrangement (in series), their connection, the seeding of arcs, etc ...
We must not lose sight of the fact that the plasma torches constituting the plasma furnaces equipping the main nozzles can be damaged by the inflow of corrosive gases if the injection of hot reducing gases into the shaft furnace is stopped. To avoid this drawback, it is advantageous, in this case, to maintain said torches under the pressure of an inert gas, for example nitrogen.
