<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

"Process for the manufacture of plastic bags and machine for the implementation of this process".
The present invention relates to a method
<EMI ID = 1.1>
realize, in a manner known per se, the bags from either a flattened plastic sheath (bags with bottom seal), or a strip of plastic potter folded back on itself (bags with side seal) , to form a stack containing
<EMI ID = 2.1>
then form a new stack of bags.
Among the various bag manufacturing processes, it is necessary to distinguish two types of process, single bag stacking location, a first type according to which the time required to move the stack of bags formed is less than the time of the manufacturing cycle of 'a bag, in this case, the bags can be manufactured continuously without the stacking of the bags, with offset
<EMI ID = 3.1>
method, the most used at present, according to which the production rate is very fast, of the order of 200 bags per minute, so that the time required to move the stack of bags formed is much greater than the time of the production cycle of 'a bag. According to this second type of process, it is therefore no longer possible to continue manufacturing the bags during the movement of a stack of bags and it is necessary either to interrupt the entrainment of the plastic material and the operations of welding, while keeping the drive means of the machine in motion, during the movement of the stack of bags, or to interrupt the drive of the plastic material, in the event of lateral sealings of the bags, allowing operations to continue welding during the movement of the stack of bags or,
in the case of the manufacture of bags with bottom welding, to stop all the drive means of the machine while the stack of bags is moving. This second type of process therefore has the drawback of causing, whatever the solution chosen from among the three existing solutions mentioned above, an interruption in the manufacture of the bags during each movement of a stack of bags, which reduces
significantly the rate of 200 bags per minute which can
be achieved on machines of recent construction.
The object of the process according to the invention is to remedy this drawback and to make it possible, at a rate of the order of 200 bags per minute, to increase the production of bags of the order of 10% compared with the known processes. using the same rate without having recourse to the complex process known and which is practically not used according to which two places of stacking of separate bags used alternately are provided.
To this end, according to the invention, the bags are manufactured continuously and the bags are maintained during the intermittent movement of a stack of bags formed of a duration greater than that of the manufacturing cycle of a bag. manufactured between the place where the bags are sealed and the place where the piles of bags are formed, and which are then transferred, after the aforementioned movement, the immobilized bags to the place where the stacks of bags.
The subject of the invention is also a machine for implementing the aforementioned method and comprising means, known per se, for driving the aforementioned plastic sheath or strip step by step, to form the bags by welding and cutting (welding
bottom) or by welding (side welds), to transfer the manufactured bags to a place where they are stacked, to stack the bags and to drive this stack of bags formed parallel to itself.
According to the invention, the means for driving the sheath, the means for forming the bags by welding and cutting or by welding and the means transferring the bags manufactured to the place where they are stacked are animated by continuous movement
<EMI ID = 4.1>
bags formed are animated by an intermittent movement, the duration of the movement of the latter means being greater than the duration of the cycle of formation of a bag, the machine comprising means intended to cooperate with the means transferring the manufactured bags to the bag. According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the means intended to temporarily maintain, during the aforesaid intermittent movement, the bags manufactured in the zone of action of the means transferring the bags manufactured to the place where they are stacked. are arranged so that the bags held are arranged in a stack and so that this intermediate stack of bags is transferred, in the stack state and parallel to itself, to the aforesaid place where the bags are stacked when the intermittent movement of the stack forming and driving means! of bags formed is interrupted.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of the drawings appended hereto.

possibilities of printing the plastic material to be shaped, by a strip of plastic material folded back on itself and the free edges of which are continuously welded to form said sheath 4,
<EMI ID = 9.1> these on top of each other to form a stack 6 which is then moved, when a predetermined number of bags is reached, parallel to itself for a shorter or longer distance
to the dimension of the bags 2 taken parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tape 1. To manufacture the bags continuously, that is to say without interruption during the movement of the stack 6 of bags, one maintains, at 7, ( see FIG. 2), the bags 2 manufactured during the movement of the stack 6 and then, after this displacement, the immobilized bags are transferred to the place 5 where the stack of bags 6 is formed. 7, to an intermediate stack of bags manufactured during the movement of the stack 6 which has just been formed and this intermediate stack 8 is transferred, see FIG. 3, to the place 5, where this intermediate stack 8 will constitute the base , shown in broken lines, of the new stack 6 of bags to be formed.
The method according to the invention allows the formation of the intermediate stack 8 and its transfer to location 5 during the movement of the stack 6 and this at a production rate at least equal to 200 bags per minute, at this rate, it It is unthinkable to provide for the displacement of the stack 6 taking place in a shorter time than that of a bag manufacturing cycle.
The machine for implementing the aforementioned method is a conventional machine (FIG. 4) for the automatic manufacture of bags comprising an accessory 9 (FIGS. 4 to 7) according to the invention making it possible to store the bags produced while the stack is moving. 6 of the aforementioned bags and then transfer
these bags stored at the aforementioned location 5 where the stack 6 is formed. This machine comprises, in order, means, known per se and not shown, arranged to drive the tape 1 step by step, a knife
10 simultaneously welding and cutting a portion of the tape 1 to form a bag 2 in each operation, two conventional sets 11 and 12 of movable cords 13 and 14 extracting the bags as they are manufactured from the place where they are welded to transfer them to the place 5 where the stack of bags 6 will be formed, the aforementioned accessory 9 and finally a conventional endless belt 15 on which the bags 2 are stacked, at 5, between a movable stop
16 and a fixed stop 17 preventing the backward movement of the bags
in the direction of the accessory 9. The belt 15 has a discontinuous movement and is only driven when the stack 6 contains a predetermined number of bags 2, the movement of the stack being authorized by the removal of the movable stop 16 which moves away from the belt 15 and whose movement is synchronized with the movement of said belt so that the latter does not start until the stopper
16 has completely cleared the passage necessary for the stack 6. The machine is advantageously provided with a cylinder 18 intended to keep the bags 2 of the stack 6 correctly aligned when starting the belt 15, this cylinder 18 resting on the upper face stack 6, when stop 16 moves away from the belt and
being arranged so that the part of the cylinder in contact with the upper face of the stack moves at the same linear speed as that of the endless belt and in the same direction as the latter. The movable stop 16 and the cylinder 18 are controlled by
to a device described in Belgian patent n [deg.] 772,622, of September 15, 1971, and comprising a single motor member 19, the stop
16 being arranged on two uprights 20 and 20 ', while the cylinder 18 is arranged on two uprights 21 and 21', these uprights 20, 20 ',
21, 21 'being parallel and guided so as to be able to move simultaneously, in pairs (20 and 20') (21 and 21 ') along their longitudinal axis which is substantially perpendicular to the plane passing through the face 22 of the belt 15. Each uprights is provided with a rack 23, the racks 23 of the pairs of uprights (20,21) and (20 ', 21') facing each other and a toothed pinion 24 meshing with the two racks 23 of each of these latter pairs of
<EMI ID = 10.1>
pair (20, 21) and (20 ', 21') simultaneously, the two pinions 24 being wedged on a single shaft 25 rotated by a
<EMI ID = 11.1>
12 movable cords to transfer the bags 2 from where
<EMI ID = 12.1>
temporarily maintain the bags made for the duration of the intermittent movement of the belt 15. These means 27 comprise, on the one hand, two sets of endless cords 28 and 29 arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tape 1 and in the extension of the sets
11 and 12 of cords, on either side of the bag transfer plane 2.
