Abstract

Knitted article e.g. a sock, produced on a circular knitting machine and having a calf part, an instep part and a sole part in the form of a cellular double tube, comprising an internal fabric tube knitted almost wholly with single type of yarn, e.g. a soft yarn such as wool, designed to come into contact with the skin of the wearer and an external fabric tube knitted almost entirely with a single yarn of different type, e.g. a wear-resistant yarn such as nylon, the two tubes being joined to form a cellular structure by interconnecting stitches spaced along the wales (columns).
