Abstract
Cubic BN is made from a mixture containing hexagonal BN, and, as initiators, one or more borides nitrides, silicides, or germanides of transition metals of Groups IV, V, VI, and VIII at pressure >55 kilobars at above 1500 degrees C. There may be 40-2% initiators and the reaction time is 2-5 mins. The product has high mechanical resistance and stability in humid media, and is used for abrasive tools.
