Abstract

Reactor consists of a column with perforated plates dividing it into a series of vertical compartments, and has natural circulation external circuits for reactants. These consists of pipes branched from one part of a single compartment to another, or between two compartments. Used for gas/liquid reactions, in cocurrent flow, and degree of mixing varies with configuration chosen. Efficient heat removal is achieved by heat exchangers in the circuits. Used for chlorination of hydrocarbons.
