Abstract
The glazing compound comprises a mixture of (a) refractory of SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2 etc. of particle size 0-400 mu (b) bonding agent of oils, natural or synthetic resins with hardener (c) suspension agent of colloidal mineral and reactive organic compound that gels to give thixotropic properties and avoidance of refractory decantation (d) solvent with high combustion temp. but sufficiently volatile to give hardening in a short time, such as paraffin oils, kerosene, or petrol ethers. The glaze, which improves the castings surface is applied by hand or spray, and is either air or flame hardened.
