Vinyl chloride monomer or a vinyl chloride monomer mixture which contains vinyl chloride as a main component is polymerised in an aqs. medium contg. suspending agent and oil-soluble catalyst by first spraying at least one kind of polar organic cpd. selected from:nitrogenous organic cpds. selected from azo gp., nitro gp., azomethine gp. or the gps. having azine ring and amine cpds; sulpho organic cpds. selected from the gps. having thiocarbonyl, thioether and thioalcohol gps. and quinone cpds., ketone cpds., aldehyde cpds., greater than 6 C alcohol cpds. and greater than 6C carboxylic acid cpds. on the inner wall of the polymerisation vessel and/or the stirring wing at a rate above 0.0001 g/m2.
