<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Advanced sharpening device.
The present invention relates to an improved sharpening device allowing sharpening at the desired angle of any tool.
This is because when sharpening any tool, the sharpening angle is of utmost importance. the. The object of the present invention is to facilitate this sharpening operation and provides a device making it possible to fix the angle of the tool relative to the grinding wheel by means of tool supports with an inclination which can be chosen, different supports being adapted to the forms tools to be sharpened
The device according to the invention is characterized mainly in that it comprises a table on which is mounted a grinding wheel driven by a motuer the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel being perpendicular to the plane of the table,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
while a plate is slidably mounted, in a direction parallel to the sharpening plane,
in a support with adjustable inclination, and comprises means for receiving a tool to be cut at the end, and that a second support, with inclination determined but interchangeable, is provided for the tools to be cut lengthwise by hand, the height position of the grinding wheel being able to be modified according to its axis of rotation.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the description together with the accompanying drawing which shows, only by way of example and diagrammatically, one embodiment of the invention.
The illustrated sharpening device consists of a table 1 on which is mounted a grinding wheel 2 driven by a motor 3 via a drive shaft 4 coming from the motor and a driven shaft 5 terminating in the grinding wheel. The connection between the drive shaft 4 and the driven shaft 5 is effected by means of bosses 6 on the shaft 4 slidably entering a corresponding chamber 7 of a female element 8 integral with the 'shaft 5 The female element 8 is rotatably mounted in and rests on a sleeve 9 whose height position is adjusted by a lever 10 bearing at 11 and controlled by a nut 12 dependent on a screw 13. The rotation of the screw 13 is controlled by a button 14.
The sharpening tool is placed on a plate 15 on which it is held by a clamping plate 16 tightened with wing nuts 17 and screws 17
The plate 15 slides on a support 18 by means of dovetail slides 19, respectively.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
ment 19 Said support 18 is mounted on the table 1 with an adjustable inclination. In fact, it is articulated on the one hand, near the grinding wheel 2, on a hinge 20 and is maintained on the other hand, at its other end, by grooved arms 21 adjustable in height. -The height adjustment of these arms is obtained by locking by means of nuts 22.
For tools to be sharpened lengthwise by hand, a fixed inclination support 23 is provided on the table 1, held by a clamp 24. This support is removable and can be replaced by supports 23 ', 23 "of'. different inclination, depending on the sharpening angle required by the tool.
When using the sharpening device for an end sharpening tool such as, for example, a wood chisel, planer blade, etc., the tool is placed on the table 15 after adjusting the inclination of the tool. the latter by acting on the height of the grooved arm 21. The grinding wheel is lowered below the level of the table and the sharpening edge is lowered until it rests on the table or on a plate placed on the table in order to ensure a perfect horizontality of said cutting edge. The tool is then secured to the plate by tightening the clamping plate 16 by means of the wing nuts 17. The introduction of the tool between the clamping plate 16 and the plate 15 is facilitated by the fact that the clamping plate 16 is held in the raised position in contact with the wing nuts 17 by springs 25.
When the tool is in the sharpening position, the plate which may be used to ensure the hoirzonta ity of the cutting edge is removed from the table and the grinding wheel is re-mounted by a rotation of the button 14 so as to be

fine in working position.
The sharpening of the tool is then resolved by bringing the tool into contact with the grinding wheel by a back and forth movement of the plate 15 sliding on the support 18 and guided by the slides 19, 19 'In order to help When determining the sharpening angle, the grooved arms 21 can be graduated in order to allow the exact choice of the inclination of the tool relative to the grinding wheel
