<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Cette moisissure peut être très nuisible pour la plante;
1
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Dividing plate for flower pots, as well as flower pots fitted with the said dividing plate."
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to a flowerpot subdivided into an upper part intended for a plant and a lower part which contains water which is intended to supply the plant and the invention relates more particularly to a plate of flowers. separation which serves for this subdivision of the pot and which is carried out in such a way that the roots of the plant can collapse in the water, contained in the lower part of the flower pot.
We already know a note of flowers, the bottom of which is provided with an opening in which a wick is placed and which is placed on a transparent container, gathering water, in which the wick plunges. In this way and due to the capillary action of the wick, the plant can be supplied with water, while the water level can be controlled due to the transparency of the container.
However, in this way we do not obtain a flowerpot forming a whole divided into one part for the plant and one part for the water, which is the aim of the invention. Or, providing a lower glass container for the water is a complication which precludes a practical and economical realization of a flower pot. Likewise, it is also impossible to prevent the formation of mold on the surface of the earth and which deolates due to the need to moisten the earth.
Known flower pots are generally executed in porous terracotta, since it is assumed that the porosity of the terracotta pot allows respiration from the external atmosphere, necessary for nourishment of the plant. However, it was found that this assumption was wrong. Indeed, the porous wall of a terracotta pot gives rise to a capillary action which sucks up the materials necessary for feeding the plant which is therefore devoid of them.
This can be observed when a plant is removed from a porous terracotta pot, since the outer surface of the clod of earth which adheres to the roots is covered with rootlets through which the plant tends to collect the necessary material. to its food and which were drawn from it by the suction action of the clay body.
It is much more beneficial for a plant when it is planted in a waterproof pot and receives regular
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the quantity of water which it needs and which corresponds to that which it consumes.
It is also known to place a terracotta pot in a flowerpot or on a flat saucer in order to collect the water which runs out during watering. It has also already been proposed that between the terracotta pot and the flowerpot be provided special devices for the supply of water to the plant and to equip these devices with wicks, valves or similar regulators allowing that the water can penetrate the earth.
However, these proposals are impractical, especially since the use of two pots placed one inside the other or of a double-walled pot increases the costs and is more expensive than when uses a single simple pot that simultaneously represents the flowerpot and an ornamental pot,
The invention therefore provides a waterproof flowerpot which is subdivided into an upper part for the plant and a lower part which contains water. For this purpose a porous or perforated separating plate is used, allowing the passage of the roots and formed, preferably by a plate which is inserted between the two parts of the pot.
This separating plate determines the water level at the same time in the lower part of the pot, since it is placed on suitable spacers provided on the bottom of the pot.
Flowerpots with a perforated bottom are already known. However, due to their complicated construction, these flowerpots are not very feasible since it has been assumed that between the part containing the water in the pot and the part containing the plant, sufficient space had to be left for ventilation. In this case, the plant is supplied with water by a special rorous extension, sucking water and provided on the perforated bottom, which crosses the latter and whose lower part plunges into the water, while its upper part extends in the flowerpot by crossing the space intended for ventilation.
The ventilation space is connected by special channels to the ambient air and it was therefore necessary to provide a special control of the water level,
On the other hand, the invention aims to provide a separation plate
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
which can be adapted to flower pots of different sizes and which allows the plant to be supplied with water from below, without the need to water the surface of the earth,
This surface of the earth should be kept as dry as possible in order to prevent the formation of mold caused by a wet surface and arising from the air and the influence of light.
This mold can be very harmful to the plant;
According to the invention, the separation plate is provided with openings which allow the roots to pass, as well as with an opening in which is inserted a tube which serves for the introduction of water into the lower part of the. pot, This plate forms an independent part and is preferably made of a deformable material, so as to ensure that it can be adapted to the diameter of the flowerpot and be placed at the desired distance from the bottom of the said flowerpot.
When the dividing plate is made for flowerpots of predetermined dimensions with regard to height and width, it can be made in the form of a perforated ceramic plate and it can be provided with a larger opening. for the filling tube made, for example, of a synthetic material.
This tube can be equipped with notches in order to be able to adjust it in height and to fix it in the separation plate. It is particularly easy to use for this purpose a flexible hose which gets stuck in the opening,
Where the divider plate needs to be adaptable to flowerpots of different sizes, for example, synthetic material or pet-perforated stainless steel or a mesh is used, so that the plate can be cut or folded up to the diameter. desired.
The necessary squeezing between the plate and the bottom of the flowerpot can be adjusted with the aid of spacers which can be arranged so that they can be adjusted in the openings of the divider plate, De led, the filler tube may have remained high in its opening.
In accordance with the invention, this filling tube can be of such size that it facilitates the introduction of water without humidifying
1
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the outer layer - the soil of the plant, and this, because it is made more or less like a funnel. In addition, this tube is advantageously of such a width as to fit the insertion of a graduated rule, preferably equipped with a float.
When the flowerpot is made under the shape of a water container, it could also be used for a tree attached to its support, in addition, it can serve as a flower vase in which the perforated partition plate forms the flower spikes. The pot according to the invention can also be used as a pot cover. All these uses are possible owing to the fact that, above the bottom, the inner wall of the pot is provided with fixing devices which can be made in the form of a bead in which a groove is provided, made in the jar. the inner wall of the pot. When it comes to round pots, which is the rule, the bead and the groove are advantageously produced in the form of an annular bead and an annular groove.
In the case of sheet metal pots, these fixing devices are folded out of the sheet metal, in the case of ceramic pots, these devices are made in the lathe and in the case of pots in synthetic material, the latter bridge executed, for example, in profiled molds in several parts.
The nots can be cylindrical or end in an upward or downward cone, for example, in order to achieve more application area fraud when the pot is used for a Christmas tree.
The fixing devices according to the invention can support the usual support for a Christmas tree and which is generally constituted by an upper support ring and by support arms which are connected to the pot containing water. When the fixing devices are formed by annular beads and grooves, the support arms must be produced in such a way that by their deployment resulting from their own elasticity, or by clamping bodies or screws, their free ends are supported firmly in the fastener.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Advantageously, the side arms are stamped from an elastic sheet, cut into strips which are then folded and curved towards the stump of the shaft which tightens the strips when it is inserted between the latter. As a result, the free ends of the side arms are firmly clamped in their fixing position.
The free ends can be widened so that the pressure they exert on the inner wall of the pot can be distributed over a larger area, After Christmas, the pot is available for other uses, as said above, and this , because it is fitted with the fixing devices provided above the bottom,
In this case, the separation plate described above is inserted so as to again subdivide the pot into an upper part for the plant and a lower part for the water.
The plate can also be made in the form of a bowl with the opening facing downwards. This bowl separates the upper part from the lower part of the pot and its opening must be oriented downwards in order to enlarge. the space intended to contain the water, This is necessary so that the pot can be used as a support for a Christmas tree, since, for this purpose, the fixing devices must be provided directly above the bottom of the pot to lower the center of gravity as much as possible. As for the separation plate described above, the plate-shaped plate, representing a partition wall and at the same time delimiting the water level,
is provided with openings so that the roots of the plant can pass through it and reach the water in the lower part of the pot,
Likewise, the pot in accordance with the invention can be used as a plant pot due to the fact that a flower pot is placed therein which can be kept away from the bottom by using simple support skulls which rest on the device. of fixation.
Several forms of execution, given? by way of non-limiting example, are shown in the appended purposes, in which:

Fig. 2 is a variant of the support of FIG. 7,
Fig, 9 is a plan view of said support.
The waterproof flowerpot 1 is made of a ceramic which is sealed by being glazed and baked. The lower part 5 for water is separated by the porous or perforated dividing plate 3 from the upper part 4 for the plant. This separating plate 3, which at the same time determines the water level, is crossed by the roots of the plant and which extend through the pores or the appropriate openings into the lower part 5, containing the water. . The plant can therefore suck in water and feed itself from below, which corresponds to its' natural diet.
The water reserve is absolutely protected from the influence of light, so that no mold forms on the surface of the earth. This is also the case with regard to the reservoir, water 8 and the filling tube 11, extending out of the pot 1.
In the embodiment shown, the water level indicator also makes it possible to supplement the water reserve. To this end, the guide tube 6 in which the level indicator is placed extends as far as the separation plate 3 or passes slightly through the latter. A graduated ruler 7 can also be inserted into tube 6, so that the water level can be controlled, which can be supplemented by tube 6 if necessary.
Instead of the graduated ruler 7. it is also possible to

provide a filling tube 11, integrated into the water tank 8, In
EMI8.1
the example shows, this tank had sp = rique and is provided with a filling opening obturiblo 9, When filling 1 inner part 5 of the pot, the rendisse tuba can be withdrawn and blocked its lower end until at the moment when the obturation 9 guarantees

The diameter of the filling tube 11 is very small, so that it is not possible for the entering air to give rise to a loss of water during its insertion.
For this purpose, the lower end of the tube can be narrowed as in 10,
When the water level drops in the S part of the pot, located
EMI8.3
under the lower end of the filling tube 11, it is known that air bubbles rise in the latter and give rise to a corresponding decrease in the level of the water in the reservoir R, and this, of the .fit that the eflu, discharged by the ir, flows .p: \ 1 'the filling tube 11 into the lower part 5 serving to supply the plant with water.
The advantage of this device lies in the fact that it is very simple and makes it possible to eliminate all daily watering. The water reserve can be calculated so that it covers for a long period.

long water consumption, necessary to feed the planned plant,
The permeable separation plate 3 can be freely arranged on a spacer 2, in order to determine the water level,
EMI8.5
In fact, when the plant is removed, for example to be planted in a larger pot, all the roots are not destroyed.
When it comes to the ceramic pot represented, the spacer is formed simply by a step surrounding the inner periphery.

or, also by a netallic mesh orotected against corrosion, the height of the lower part 5 is determined by spacer pieces SI which, in the form of execution shown, can be formed by si.mn?es small bars in s%, ntliet4-euo which are provided with beads or notches and which pass through the perforations of the separation plate 3 '.
EMI9.2
In addition, the separating plate 3 'is provided with a bore 16, larger than the perforations and which is intended for the insertion of the tube 17 for the introduction of water,
In fig, 2, this tube 17 is fixed using back beads 18 at the

position which corresponds to the height to be given to the lower part 5 of the pot.
EMI9.4
At fiq, 3, the tube 17 is formed by a tube which can be cut and which is fixed in the desired position by wedging it in its bore 16,
The lower end 19 of the tube 17 is cut obliquely, in order to facilitate the flow of water.
The upper end of the tube is widened to 17 'in order to facilitate the filling of the lower part 5 of the pot and to prevent the surface of the soil, located in the upper part 4, from being wetted.
EMI9.5
In the tube 17 is provided a graduated rule 12, the lower extremity of which carries a float 13, while its upper end is provided with an indication 14. The float 13 makes it possible to adapt the height of the graduated rule 12 to the tube. water level. Indicator 14 is used to monitor this water level.

Fig, 6 shows a water container which flares upwards. A bowl-shaped separation plate 111 can be placed on the bead 103 so that its edge is facing downwards, or else this plate is produced. a flexible matiro and engages, above the bead 103, in the groove 104. The bottom of the bowl is perforated to accommodate the cassate of the roots of a plant which can be placed in the upper part, on the plate. separation 111, roots which can then extend to the lower, water-filled part of the pot.
The end, 7 represents a water container whose base is widened in order to give more stability to a Christmas tree which can be placed in the container. The insertion to support the shaft is constituted by a support ring 106 and by the deployable side arms 107 whose free ends 108 are made so as to be able to engage under the bead 103, In this deployed position, these arms can be retained in the fixing device by a clamping ring,
