<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
fusion,
Toutefois,
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"REVERBERRY OVEN FOR MELTING METALS,
MORE PARTICULARLY NON-FERROUS METALS "
The present invention relates to a reverberation furnace for melting metals, in particular non-ferrous metals.
Furnaces of this type, already known, comprise a combustion and melting chamber, the walls of which, either side or bottom, are made by a refractory brick structure. This chamber has a square or reotangular shape, inside which the flame is projected by a jet which directly invests the layer

combustion escape through the chimney, by which the charge of the metal to be melted is effected, while controlling to melt,
A furnace of this kind is the cause of several disadvantages.
A first drawback is represented by a low efficiency of the furnace, where it takes about 14 kgs of mazouth to melt about 150 kgs of aluminum for about an hour of time.
A second drawback is due to the direction given to the flame investing the charge of molten metal, which gives rise to the oxidation of the metal.
A third drawback is due to the difficulty of renewing the refractory lining inside the reverb lathe, an operation which requires a lot of time and which is, therefore, expensive, apart from the fact that this renewal must be done on site and by specialized personnel.
A fourth drawback consists in that the outer coating of the furnace is in direct contact either with the internal refractory lining of the furnace, or with the environment.

Yet another disadvantage is shown bar the fact that - '' "'"'. ' - the reverberatory lathe is fixed on site, which requires additional equipment for transporting molten metal to. the location of its use.
The reverberation furnace of the present invention tends to eliminate all of the above-mentioned drawbacks.
It is distinguished by the fact of comprising a chamber with a circular, cylindrical base, inside which the flame follows, if it has not entered said chamber, a tangential path with respect to the circular, internal aroi of the oven. , to distribute in a vortex and licking the surface of the molten metal charge, so that the oom- gases

oustion must follow a spiral path, before escaping through the ohominee. In this way, it is avoided to send a jet of fire directly against this charge, which eliminates the oxidation of it and makes it possible to enormously increase the effect of the reverberation of the flame,
while exploiting more rationally and thoroughly the heat supplied to the oven

Returning to Figures 1 and 2, the reverberatory lathe according to the invention comprises a chamber or cavity 1 for melting the metal, of cylindrical shape, in communication with an oreu- set 2 in the open, where the molten metal is deposited and where it is taken for filling the molds. Chamber and crucible therefore form a single part, pre-fabricated, in refractory material, for the molding of which an appropriate formwork will be used to facilitate either the formation of said single part or the replacement of the coating. ment of the lathe once damaged, an operation which must be able to be carried out easily and quickly.
Combustion chamber communication passage 3
1 with crucible 2 has a limited height thanks to the installation of an upper rim 4, allowing the passage of the molten metal in its lower part and at the same time retaining the slag swimming at the level of the molten mass
The flame inlet nozzle 5 has its axis parallel to the molten level and arises in a position tangential to the cylindrical inner wall of the melting chamber, so that the flaming jet results parallel to the flame. 1. molten charge level, and thereby follow a @ sale or vortex path above the split mass of the metal.
The path of the flame therefore undergoes a prolongation so that the gases produced in this chamber must make several eurs before escaping through the chimney 6. The reverberation is prolonged on the metal, this avoiding the oxidation of the latter due to the elite of the flame directly investing the charge in @@@@ oven

streetlight.
It is obvious that the prolonged stay of the gases produced by the flame inside the reverberatory furnace gives rise to a better efficiency of the latter, oar it results from the experiments made that 6 kgs of mazouth suddent to melt approximately 170 kgs of aluminum and that the duration of the operation is only about 20 minutes. The economic results are therefore important compared to the reverberation furnaces known hitherto.
On one side of the combustion and fusion chamber, an inspection opening 7 has been made, closed by a gui- ohet 8, naturally coated inside a layer of refractory material 9 and to be opened by means of a lever 10 with hinged lock 11.
The sky of said chamber 1 is formed (see figures 1 and 4) by a robust plate 12 of refractory material $ also obtained by pre-manufacture in a single block and resting on the vertical walls of said chamber. A lateral extension of this said plate at 13 serves to form the oiel of the opening 7.
On this plate, in dahors of the axis of the / chamber 1 and in the immediate vicinity of said opening 7, provision is made for the opening of the chimney at 14.
According to Figures 1, 3 and 4, the opening 14 has its axis diagonally in the direction of the axis of the chamber 1 and it is on this axis which rests the chimney formed by two blocks 15 and 16, also of refractory material and obtained by pre-manufacture. The cavity 17 of the block 15, milled in an upward cone, has the same direction as the axis of the opening 14, while the cavity 18 of the block 16 has its own axis deviated from that of the cavity 18, being so arranged that the passage from cavity 18 to cavity 17 has a constriction 19 serving to stop the blocks of metal being melted in order to heat them so that they begin to melt before reaching the interior of the chamber. combustion chamber 1 and

arrival which will take place only after these blocks have already melted to an eligible bridge.
At the bottom of the crucible, below the opening 7, there is provided a conduit 20 for removing the molten metal for large casting loads and for forming ingots.
The combustion chamber 1 is located inside a metal mantle 21 which, apart from the metal melting chamber itself, also contains the crucible 2. This mantle is dimensioned so as to leave all around the chamber. reverberating oven a space large enough to put there heat-insulating material 22, to prevent the chameur inside the oven can diffuse into the atmosphere, for the best safety of the personnel.
Figure 5 shows this liner 21, which also extends above the reverberation furnace to also include chimney 6. Liner 21 is constructed. built on a support frame, which rests on 22 'wheels for easy transport. The oven. additionally forms an autonomous unit, as long as it also includes a burner 23, a fuel tank (generally mazouth) 24 and the control knob 25. To the advantages mentioned above we also add that movement at will in the establishment in order to be able to perform the inherent operations in any position in which the metal is used: sheared.
As seen in Figures 2 ot 4, the. opening plate 12 is traversed in different directions by ducts 26, inside which pass reinforcing steel bars 27, to prevent total or partial collapse in the case of tooth formation or crevices due to thermal forces. It is preferred that these circles be slightly smaller than these holes, to ensure their expansion due to the heat of the oven. This can also be achieved by forming the conduits 26 during the pre-manufacture of the plate and by introducing therein after the iron bars.
However,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
it is also possible to embed these rounds in the refractory material during pre-manufacture, by coating these rounds with a vane capable of melting in the first heat to leave the rounds expansion space. This substance could be wax. This will protect the plaque from the harmful effects of the expansion of the iron. The black represents an economical means, easy and quick to apply, while being to be preferred.
According to the above, the reverberation furnace of the present invention constitutes a unit which, apart from the higher efficiency and the better quality of the product, results in more economical, easier and quick handling, while at the same time. including the advantage of travel at will as necessary,
Of course, the invention can be carried out by other means and in other forms with respect to the description, without departing from the scope of industrial protection granted by the patent.
