<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Scraper and compressor ring, and pistons fitted with such rings".
The present invention relates to a segment of a new type simultaneously acting as a compression ring and a scraper ring, particularly intended to equip pistons moving in cylinders without window.
The segment according to the invention is intended to replace the multiple segments currently in use. In fact, it is, until now, usual to provide on internal combustion engine pistons, compressors and the like, at least one sealing segment. followed by a scraper oath. Often two or more sealing rings and one or two scraper rings are annealed to achieve the desired results.
The output of the present invention is to provide a segment
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
@ unique to advantageously replace the aforesaid usual segments while offering better sealing guarantees and a good demand for oil or lubricant.
To this end, the invention provides a segment of a new type having at least two converging conical walls joined by an internal molding, this internal molding being intended to be introduced into a groove of corresponding shape provided for this purpose in the piston to equip.
Preferably, a segment according to the invention will be constituted by two pairs of mutually nested converging conical walls.
To bring out the characteristics and advantages of the invention more clearly, an implementation of the latter is described below by way of illustration and not restrictively, with reference being made to the appended drawings in which: FIG. perspective view of a piston equipped with a segment according to the invention; Figures 2 and 3 are schematic radial sections of the piston according to Figure 1, respectively along lines II-II and III-III of this figure; FIG. 4 is a partial perspective and exploded view of the segment according to the invention shown in the preceding figures.
The segment 1 according to the invention is intended to equip a piston 2 provided, for this purpose, with a groove 3. The segment 1 is constituted, in this case, by a first pair of converging conical walls and 6 joined by a interior molding 6 and by a second pair of converging conical walls 7 and 8 joined by an interior molding 9.
The two said pairs are nested one inside the other, their respective moldings having a substantially semi-circular cross section.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The walls 4 and 5 are provided with a plurality of equidistant slots 10 extending from their free edge up to the birth of said molding 6, while the walls 7 and 8 are similarly provided with slots 11. These two annular elements are however assembled in such a way that the slots 10 are hidden by the conical walls 7 and 8,
The groove 3 is provided with a groove 12 with a cross section also zemi-circular, intended to receive the nested moldings 9 and 6 and, thereby, to maintain the segment in position.
In the bottom of the groove 3 also opens a plurality of radial orifices 13 for the passage of oil.
In order to ensure good contact between the conical walls 7 and 8 and the wall of the cylinder in which the piston 2 moves, the free ends of these walls have, on their external face, a zone of progressively decreasing thickness, respectively 14 and 15.
The above-described segment will advantageously be made of spring steel sheet, of a fear depending on the diameter of the piston to be fitted, of the order for example of 10 to 30 mm for the current piston dimensions.
It should be noted that, thanks to the shape of the sepment, the latter must not exert strong pressure against the cylinder wall at any time. In fact, the seal is ensured by the pressure prevailing in the compression chamber of the equipped cylinder, this pressure also prevailing in the upper part of the groove 3 and urging the conical wall 4 outwards, so as to apply the zone. 14 of the wall 7 against the wall of the cylinder.
This arrangement avoids any risk of prippape or blockage, risks existing with usual sepments. Since it allows significant expansion play,
