<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

"INSTALLATION FOR INSTANT PREPARATION OF READY TO CONSUMPTION COFFEE"
Installations commonly referred to as groups in current terminology intended to constitute operating units to be combined with devices for the instantaneous preparation of ready-to-eat coffee, such as for example "espresso" are already known.
These preparatory groups are generally manually operated and require handling to pour a dosage of roasted coffee,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and ground in a perforated cup called a filter as well as to fix this cup below a pressure delivery device of a dosage of hot water which is forced to pass through the layer of coffee contained in the filter, for the preparation and the discharge of the drink ready for consumption and finally to detach and clean the cup for new use.
There are also groups called "automatic" which make it possible to do away with this multitude of manual operations. In these automatic groups, the filters are generally designed in such a way that they can be put aside thanks to an intermittent pivoting movement of the filter. such that, in the separated position, they are successively brought into different positions receiving successively the dosage of ground coffee, the dosage of pressurized water and finally a jet of water or steam to expel the exhausted coffee.
These different phases are carried out automatically in such a way that whenever an action on the control is exerted for example by pressing a button or by inserting a coin or a token into a special device, the abou operations are triggered. - weaving to a portion of coffee ready to be consumed.
However, these automatic groups present drawbacks and some obstacles. Thus, at the end of the operation of forming and discharging a portion of beverage, a metering of ground coffee is in the filter intended to succeed the first in the preparation of the beverage. If the interval between two consecutive preparations exceeds a certain lapa of time, the new dosage of coffee in a hot and humid environment may deteriorate to the detriment of the aroma and its flavor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
1 organoleptic qualities. In addition, the complete automation of the apparatus does not allow interventions and checks to adapt the concentration of the infusion to consumers' tastes.
In addition, known automatic groups are criticized for the drawback of very slow operation, so that they are not able to provide sufficient flow at peak times, requiring in these cases, to satisfy the demands. needs, the simultaneous use of several installations which, at slower hours, become inoperative and superfluous.
To remedy these drawbacks, the present invention relates to a unit intended for the instantaneous preparation of ready-to-drink coffee comprising a drum, movable around its axis, and in which a chamber provided on the periphery opens out passages of. on the one hand for the successive introduction of a dosage of ground coffee and on the other hand for the release of the ready drink and for the discharge of the exhausted coffee.
This group is characterized by the fact that it has two diametrically opposed coaxial chambers and that these passages are oriented at 90 relative to each other around the axis of the drum so that the complete cycle of the preparation of the drink is accomplished by two movements of rotation at 90 of the drum and that the quantity of drink to be prepared is predetermined and variable as a function of the stopping time between the two movements and during which the chamber containing the ground coffee is located in front of the drink outlet passage and in communication with a pressurized hot water source.
The appended drawing represents, by way of nonlimiting example, a preferred embodiment of the subject of the invention in three figures.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Fig. 1. shows the group in vertical section along a longitudinal plane along line 1-1 of FIG. 2 ready to review the dosage of ground coffee and to drain the exhausted coffee, Fig. 2 relates to a cross section of the group taken along line II-II of FIG. 1 where the drum is oriented in the position of preparation and delivery of the drink, Fig. 3 shows a portion of a group, partially in front view and partially in section in the direction and along the transverse plane, according to the line III-III of FIG. 1.
Pin 4 relates to a part of the pivoting distributor member included in the group in cross section along line IV-IV of fig 1.
In the embodiment shown, the group comprises a casing 10 in which there is a cylindrical chamber closed on one of its faces by a head 11, easily removable for the release and removal of the cylindrical drum 12 housed mobile in this room, particularly for periodic cleaning.
On the periphery of the cylindrical chamber are provided three passages oriented at 90 relative to each other, that is to say a passage 13, directed upwards and provided with a flared connection 14 forming a hopper for the discharge. reception of the successive dosages of roasted and ground coffee, a horizontal passage 15 enclosing the members intended for the delivery of the drink, closed towards the chamber by means of a perforated diaphragm outside which there is a space 16 in which s 'flows the drink (Fig. 2), and finally a passage 17 directed downwards for the discharge of the exhausted coffee.
#
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
On the contour of the diaphragm perfora and of the space 16 constituting the filtering chamber is disposed a seal 18 resting on the cylindrical outer surface 19 of the drum 12. The filtering chamber 16 is formed in a hollow body 20. comprising a horizontal extension 21 inside which is provided a passage 22 communicating with the spout 23 through which the drink flows. The hollow body 20 is connected in an adjustable manner to a head 24 assembled by means of a balonette ring 25 at the end of the tubular part of the housing 10, constituting the passage 15.
The head 24 further compresses a part 26 by means of the balonette ring and which carries the sealing gasket 18. By releasing the ring 25 from the balonette closure all the elements contained in the tubular passage. 15 can be extracted for periodic cleaning.
In the drum 12 are provided two identical cylindrical chambers and coaxial 30 and 31, oriented diametrically to the drum and separated by a central wall 32. In the chambers 30 and 31 where the filtering takes place are arranged the pistons 33 and 34 charging. the perforated diaphragms 35 and 36, the function of which is to serve as a receiving and retaining surface for the dosage of ground coffee introduced through the hopper 14 (fig. 1) when one of these two chambers is facing upwards and , in addition, to ensure a uniform distribution of hot water under pressure on the layer of ground coffee in the filtering chamber 16 (fig. 2).
A distributor disc 40 (fig. 1 and 4,), preferably in water-repellent and non-stick material - ,,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
(such as for example polytetrafluoroethylene), is mounted on the extended hub of the drum 12 (fig. 1) on the side opposite the head 11 to the right of a small heater 41, connected to the casing 10 and inside which a heat source is arranged which for example can be an electric resistance 43, controlled by a known thermostat.
This reheater is in constant communication with pressurized water, regulated for example by a pressure switch to ensure the forced passage of water through the coffee filter, in the preparation phase of the coffee. drink. The heater 41 is in the form of a hollow body assembled in a sealed manner to a flange 45 of the housing 10 and in which there is an opening 44, starting from the highest point of the heater and communicating alternately with each of the different passages. 46, 47, 48 and 49 provided in the distributor disc 40, according to the successive positions occupied by the drum 10.
In particular, the passage 44 communicates with one or the other of the passages 46 and 48 as soon as the chambers 30 and 31 of the drum 12 are oriented horizontally so as to communicate the interior of the heater alternately with the interior of the heater. 'either of the passages 40 and 51 (fig.2) of the central wall 32. Under these conditions, the hot water under pressure enters through the passage 51 in the position of fig. 2 behind the piston 34 which is located in the chamber 31 opposite the filter chamber 16.
The resistance opposed by the perforated diaphragm 36 of the piston 34 to the passage of water, firstly causes the piston to advance along the chamber 31 with the effect of compressing the ground coffee against the perforated diaphragm in front of the chamber. filtering 16, the coffee soaking in hot water before the actual filtering of this infusion takes place.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
This succession of impregnation, pressure and filtering phases (adjustable by controlling the pressure of the water sent to the interior 42 of the heater 41) makes it possible to obtain an infusion under the most favorable conditions, while safeguarding the organoleptic and aroma properties of coffee and the formation of a dense foam on the surface of the repressed drink. At the end of the delivery, the drum 12 is turned by 900 and the chamber 31 having been used for the preparation of the drink is oriented downwards (FIG. 1). As soon as it is in front of the discharge passage 17, the residual pressure at the arrival of the piston 34 causes the complete advance of the latter which then produces the mechanical expulsion of the spent coffee through the passage. 17.
The same process occurs with respect to the opposite chamber 30 and the corresponding piston 33, supplied with hot water under pressure arriving behind the piston through the passage 50 when the latter is in front of the passage 46. The opposite passage 48 of the distributor disc 40 serves to send the residual water into the various spaces by turning the pistons and the lateral faces of the drum 12 to ensure the heating thereof. This heating is also provided by the passages 47 and 49 in communication with one another (FIG. 4) permanently filled with hot water.
The group described can be controlled by means of motors capable, as soon as they are activated, of subjecting the tam. bour 12 successive rotations of 900. This group is preferably provided with a semi-automatic control so as to allow the operator to act manually and to control the preparation of the drink according to the taste of the consumers ha realization of the group in "semi.-automatic" also eliminates a number of assemblies and auxiliary mechanisms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The manual actuator comprises a lever 60 (Figs. 1 and 3), provided with a handle 61 connected to a hub 62 rotatably mounted on bearings 63 around an extension of the shaft 64 of the drum 12. A using a snap consisting of a lug 65 biased by a spring 66 (fig. 1), it is possible to impose on a sleeve 67, integral with the extension of the shaft 64, a movement in a single direction. The lever 60 is balanced by a mass 68 (or recalled by an appropriate elastic hub) so that the latter tends to return and to remain in a vertical position, as shown in fiefdoms 1 and 3.
Appropriate claws 69, in engagement with corresponding claws of a tubular extension 70 of the head 11, limit the movements of the hub 62 and, with it, of the lever 60 so that the latter, as soon as 'it has moved in the direction of the arrow A (fig. 3), can make movements slightly greater than 900, p while in the direction B it can only rotate for example at an angle of 200 by relative to the vertical position of the pin 3. '
The sleeve 67 is engaged by the lug 65 (fig.
1) on any of the four notches (pin 3), so that each full movement imposed on the lever 60 in direction A from its vertical position, the drum 12 performs a rotary movement being exactly 900, while small displacements in direction B do not cause any movement of this drum.
The movement in direction B of the lever 60 on the other hand has the effect of causing the descent of a dosage of ground coffee in the hopper 14. This is achieved for example by means of the actuator 71 (FIG. 3) which is provided with a known coffee dispenser 72, and which occupies a position such that movement in direction B of lever 60 causes the #
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
variously a dosage of fresh coffee in the hopper 14.
Each operating cycle of the group begins when the chambers 30 and 31 of the drum are in vertical position (fig. 1), both then being empty and cleaned * The operator moves, by gripping the handle 61, the lever 60 in direction B for a moment, thus causing a dosage of fresh coffee to drop into the chamber 30, which is now facing upwards and then returning the lever in direction A to its position d 'stop, causes the rotation at 900 of the drum 12 which thus comes to occupy the position shown in fig 2.
The preparation of the drink is therefore initiated and persists as long as the drum is maintained in this position while the operator, after having released the lever 60, allows it to spontaneously return to its position. initial vertical.
When the desired quantity of beverage to be delivered is deemed sufficient, the operator again moves lever 60 in direction A to the stop position, causing both the drum to rotate 900 and the return of the chambers in the vertical position and the expulsion of the exhausted coffee from the chamber 31 (freeze 1) which is now facing downwards, while the opposite chamber 30 is in the waiting position to receive, in turn, a new dosage of coffee, repeating the cycle.
The water is kept inside 42 of the heater 41 at the pressure necessary for the production of the drink. Furthermore, and in particular in the case where a relatively long time interval is provided between the successive preparations, it is possible to prevent the water from being kept constantly under pressure under the effect of an electro-pump or as a result of opening #
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
constant of a valve placed between the heater and the water source, under pressure,
The means for producing this effect may include a microswitch 80 (fig. 1 and 3) cooperating with a cam 81, integral with the extension of the shaft 64 of the drum 12.
The contour of this cam has a raised part 82 and a lowered part 83, which are repeated every 1800 of the contour of this cam.
This cam is mounted so that the sensor 84 of the microswitch 80 is on the end of one of the lowered parts 83 when the group is in its standby position (fig. 1 and 3). The microswitch 80 is inserted in the circuit of the electro-pump and of the electro-valve (not shown) so that, in the intervals between the successive preparations, the pressure in the heater 41 is removed. This pressure is restored as soon as rotation in direction A of drum 12 has begun.
