Description

ELECTRIC COFFEE MAKER WITH PISTON COMPRISING A MEANS
OF INTRODUCTION OF THE MATERIAL TO BE INFUSED
The present invention relates to the general technical field! appliances of the piston coffee maker type. The devices of the piston-type coffee maker can be used to prepare coffee, tea, or more generally, infusions.
An appliance of the piston-type coffee maker comprises in a known manner a cylindrical container in which is disposed a removable piston ensuring a peripheral seal with the walls of the container. The piston has an operating rod and has a surface comprising means for filtering solids dispersed in water such as ground coffee.
Usually, the user places the desired quantity of ground coffee in the container, then pours pre-heated water. Preferably the mixture obtained is stirred, for example using a spoon. The user can then close the container with the piston, to limit the loss of heat and aroma. After a few minutes of infusion, the user lowers the plunger to filter the drink. The ground coffee is then trapped between the bottom of the container and the piston, and the user obtains a filtered drink.
A drawback of this type of device is that the temperature of the hot water and ground coffee mixture decreases during preparation, and in particular when the mixture is stirred with a metal spoon. The drink thus obtained most often has a temperature below 80 C. The user drinking his coffee finds it insufficiently hot. Another drawback of this device is that the mixing of the water and the ground coffee takes place in the open air. This results in aromatic losses. Other aromatic losses can occur during the infusion by the spout of the container if the piston remains in the high position.
It is known from document DE G 94 12 742.5 to produce an apparatus for preparing tea or coffee, comprising a container having an upper opening closed by a lid. The cover is in the form of an annular cup through which a tube passes. The upper part of the tube is tapered and oriented downwards. The lower part of the tube is cylindrical and has at its lower end means for holding a filter. A piston carrying an annular seal fitted with the cylindrical walls of the tube is provided to slide in leaktight manner in said tube. The preparation of the drink is carried out as follows. The ground coffee or tea is placed in the cylindrical tube, then the hot water is poured into the container through the said tube, which causes strong agitation of the ground coffee or the tea. The drink then infuses for a few minutes. The pressure of the piston makes it possible to extract the drink.
The disadvantage of this device is that the drink infuses mainly in a small part of the container. The infusion is then diluted when the piston is pressed.
It is known from document DE 1 97 06 523 to produce an apparatus for the preparation of hot beverages to be filtered, comprising electric heating means arranged in a cylindrical container in which slides a filtering piston. The piston is mounted on a rod sliding in a cover. The user pours cold water into the container, adds the ground coffee and closes the cover, the piston occupying a raised position under the cover. The user heats the mixture until the thermostat switches off the heating means. After allowing the mixture to infuse for the desired time, the user filters the drink by pressing the plunger.
Such an apparatus makes it possible to obtain a hot drink to be filtered more simply, since it is not necessary to use an additional apparatus to heat the water. However, depending on the operation indicated, the user must introduce the coffee while the water is still cold. A first drawback lies in the fact that this arrangement is not optimal for the taste of the drink. Another disadvantage lies in the fact that the descent of the piston can be difficult if the stirring of the mixture by thermal convection has been insufficient, which obliges the user to remove the cover, shake the grind, close the cover, and lower the piston. This results in a waste of time and dissatisfaction for the user.
An object of the present invention is to propose a device of the piston-type coffee maker in which the drink can be obtained in a simple and rapid manner.
Another object of the present invention is to propose an apparatus of the piston-type coffee maker in which the drink is obtained with a sufficient temperature and while minimizing the aromatic losses.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus of the piston-type coffee maker in which the preparation of the drink is facilitated.
These objects are achieved with a household appliance intended for heating liquids and for filtering them, comprising a cylindrical container, a piston sliding in the container and comprising an operating member emerging from the cover, the piston being permeable to liquids and ensuring a seal for solid particles with the side walls of the container, and heating means, characterized in that the operating member forms a tube intended for the introduction of ingredients into the container and in that sealing means are provided to plug the lower part of said tube.
This arrangement makes it possible to introduce the ground coffee into the container without removing the cover when the water previously introduced into the container has been brought to temperature by the heating means. The user is thus encouraged to place the cover on the container before the water is heated. Energy loss is thus limited. The sealing means make it possible to prevent the liquid from rising up through the tube when the piston is lowered into the container to filter the drink.
According to a first embodiment, the closure means can be operated from outside the container to close or open the tube.
According to a first embodiment of the first embodiment, the sealing means are constituted by a disc mounted on a movable rod in rotation emerging above the cover. The rod can in particular be mounted in the tube.
According to a second embodiment of the first embodiment, the closure means are formed by an inner tube mounted in the tube, the lower end of each of the tubes comprising at least one open part and at least one closed part, the rotation of the inner tube in the tube offering at least one position in which the closed part or parts of the internal tube close off the open part or parts of the tube.
Advantageously, the tube and the inner tube each have a closed part closing at least half of their lower end, the closed part of the inner tube having an inclination, so as to facilitate the flow of the ground coffee in the container.
According to a second embodiment, the shutter means are capable of closing the tube when the user presses on the operating member of the piston to filter the drink. The closure means are for example formed by a valve 28 provided for closing the lower end of the tube. This embodiment has the advantage of not requiring a specific action from the user to close the tube.
Advantageously, to facilitate the introduction of the ingredients, the upper end of the tube or of the inner tube forms a funnel.
Advantageously, to facilitate the application of the effort of the user on the tube or the inner tube during the filtration of the drink, a stopper is provided to close the funnel.
Advantageously according to the first example of the first embodiment, the plug has a groove intended to receive the rod when the disc closes the tube.
Preferably the heating means are arranged in the bottom of the container.
Advantageously, to facilitate service, the device comprises an electrical supply base comprising a connector provided for supplying the heating means when the base of the container is placed on said base.
The invention will be better understood from the study of exemplary embodiments taken without any limitation being implied and illustrated in the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 is a side view in partial section of a first example of

the element shown in Figures 4 and 5, Figure 6b is a perspective view in partial section of another
part of the element shown in Figures 4 and 5, Figure 7 is a sectional side view of part of a third
embodiment of an apparatus according to the invention.
An exemplary embodiment of the household appliance intended for heating liquids and for filtering them is shown in FIG. 1.
The apparatus comprises a cylindrical container 1 delimited by a bottom 11 and side walls 17. The upper part 14 of the container 1 is slightly flared and has a spout 12. A cover 7 is provided for closing the container 1, leaving a passage 13 at the level of the spout 12. The apparatus also includes a handle 8 mounted on the container 1 by a metal banding 9.
The container 1 is mounted on a base 2 in which are arranged heating means 3. The heating means 3 are associated with means for regulating the temperature or with means for cutting off the electrical supply when the water has reaches the desired temperature. The device comprises a base 4 for power supply 15. The base 2 is removable from the base 4 and is supplied by a connector 10.
A piston 5 is mounted at the lower end of an operating member 6 sliding in the cover 7. The piston 5 comprises a filter 24, made for example of metallic mesh. The periphery 25 of the filter 24 is bent upwards and receives a spring 26 provided for pressing said periphery against the side walls 17 of the container 1, so as to ensure a good seal for the solid particles of ground coffee. Four bars 27 mounted on the operating member 6 hold the filter 24.
According to the invention, the operating member 6 forms a tube 16 provided for the introduction of ingredients into the container 1 and sealing means are provided to plug the lower part of said tube.
As shown in Figures 1 and 3b, the tube 16 has in its upper part a funnel 18. A rod 19 rotatably mounted in the tube 16 is held by fasteners 29. The rod 19 has an upper part emerging from the tube 16 above the cover 7. As a variant not shown in the figures, the rod 19 can be mounted outside the tube 16.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 3a, the sealing means can be operated from the outside of the container 1 to close or open the tube 16 and consist of a disc 23 mounted on the lower part of the rod 19.
The disc 23 is shown in the open position in Figure 1, for the introduction of the ground coffee in the container 1, and in the closed position in Figure 3a, for the filtration of the drink.
Figure 2 shows an agitator 44 for mixing water and coffee grounds.
FIG. 3c shows a plug 20 designed to be inserted into the funnel 18.
The stopper 20 has a groove 21 provided for receiving the rod 19 when the disc 23 closes the tube 16. A timer 22 can be placed on the stopper 20, to count down the time of infusion of the drink.
The apparatus of the embodiment shown operates and is used in the following manner.
The user fills the container 1 with water, places the said container on the base 4 and starts the heating means. The cover 7 is arranged on the container 1, the piston 5 preferably occupying a raised position under the cover 7, and the disc 23 preferably occupying a position in which the tube 16 is closed. This arrangement makes it possible to prevent steam from condensing on the interior walls of the tube, such a situation being able to cause a deposit of ground coffee on the walls of the tube. When the water has reached the desired temperature, the user turns the rod 19 to bring the disc 23 into a position in which the tube 16 is open. The user then introduces the desired amount of ground coffee, and preferably agitates the mixture using the agitator 44. The user then rotates the rod 19 to bring the disc 23 into a position in which the tube 16 is closed. , in order to limit the aromatic losses. After having left the hot water and ground coffee mixture infused for the desired time, the user filters the drink by pressing on the end of the operating member 6, for example by means of the stopper 20. The user can provide the service filtered drink without removing the cover.
The embodiment shown in Figures 4,5,6a and 6b differs from the previous example in that the sealing means are formed by an inner tube 30 mounted in the tube 16. The inner tube 30 has a funnel 32 .
The lower end of each of the tubes 16.30 has an open part 36.40 and a closed part 34.38. The rotation of the inner tube 30 in the tube 16 offers at least one position in which the closed part 38 of the inner tube 30 closes the open part 36 of the tube 16.
As shown in Figure 6a the lower end of the tube 16 is partially closed by a half disc forming the closed part 34 and leaving an open part 36 occupying a little less than half of the section of the tube 16. As shown in FIG. 6b the lower end of the inner tube 30 is partially closed off by a plate inclined in a semi-ellipse forming the closed part 38 and leaving an open part 40 occupying a little less than half of the section of the inner tube 30. As a variant, not shown in the figures, the lower end of each of the tubes 16.30 may comprise more than one open part 36.40 and more than one one closed part 34.38.
The plug 20 shown in FIG. 3c can be adapted to the funnel 32 of the inner tube 30. The groove 21 is not necessary in this embodiment.
The apparatus according to this exemplary embodiment is used in a similar manner to the apparatus of the previous embodiment. The user turns the inner tube 30 in the tube 16 to open or close the tube 16, and introduces the ground coffee into the inner tube 30.
The embodiment shown in Figure 7 differs from the two previous examples in that the sealing means are capable of closing the tube 16 when the user presses on the operating member 6 of the piston 5 to filter the drink. The closure means are formed by a valve 28 provided for closing the lower end of the tube 16. The valve 28 can be articulated on the lower end of the tube 16, as shown in FIG. 7, or on one of the bars 27.
When the user introduces the ground coffee into the tube 16, the valve 28 opens and the ground coffee falls into the container 1. When the user presses the operating member 6 of the piston 5 to filter the drink, the valve is pushed back by contact with the water and ground mixture against the lower end of the tube 16. For this purpose the rest position of the valve is preferably distant from the vertical, to prevent the valve from sinking into the mixture instead of 'be regrown.
The apparatus according to the invention can be used with ground coffee, or with tea, or more generally with materials to be infused.
Many improvements can be made to this device within the scope of the claims.
