<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

COOLING DEVICE FOR TRANSFORMER.
We know that certain types of transformers are equipped with a cooler consisting of a series of tubes arranged vertically around the tank and connecting the lower and upper parts of the latter so that a natural circulation of oil is established in the tank. these tubes which evacuate the calories by convection with the ambient medium. In reality, this circulation of oil is very bad; observations have shown that the oil hardly cites in a very thin adjacent layer
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
at the inner wall of the tubes, the central volume, by far the largest, remaining stationary.
This results in an inefficient heat exchange with the outside, which leads to equipping the cooler with a considerable number of tubes involving a large footprint and high manufacturing costs.
The invention overcomes these drawbacks to a large extent; it makes it possible to considerably increase the heat exchange surface of the cooling tubes of a transformer and, consequently, to proportionally reduce the number of these.
The transformer cooling device, which comprises a series of vertical tubes connected at each end to an oil collector communicating with the transformer tank, is characterized in that inside each of the another tube is arranged concentrically, open at its two ends and passing right through each of the two oil collectors, such that the oil occupies the annular volume between the two tubes, means being provided to promote the rise of the outside air in the central tube as well as its heat exchange with the internal wall thereof.
The following description and the appended drawing relate to a particular embodiment of the invention. The figure partially shows two oil collectors 1 and 2 connected respectively to the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
upper and lower parts of a transformer tank, not shown and interconnected by a series of vertical tubes 3. Inside each of the tubes 3 is concentrically arranged another tube @, open at both ends, which passes right through the collectors 1 and 2 in a sealed manner.
The transformer oil is thus in contact on the one hand with the internal wall of the tube 3 and, on the other hand, with the external wall of the tube 4; there is therefore, in addition to the heat exchange of the oil, through the tube 3, with the outside air, a heat exchange, through the tube 4, with the air located therein. This air, heating up, rises in the tube 4 and an aacentionnol current is established in it, evacuating the calories of the oil in the ambient air. A considerably increased cooling surface is therefore available.
The thoracic exchange can still be improved by disposing. the interior of the tube 4 of the means for absorbing heat by radiation swept by the ascending air current, possibly combining them with means for accelerating the circulation of the air. One can, for example, as shown in the figure, place inside the tube 4, a metal strip 5, twisted into a helix, the surface of which, like that of the inside of the tube 4, is treated so as to give it a constant of radiation close to that of the black orpa.
The strip 5 therefore absorbs the heat transmitted by radiation by the wall of the tube 4, to which is added that transmitted by conductivity by the ccntct
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
between the edges of the strip 5 with the wall of the tube 4, and the air stream rising in the latter by natural or forced circulation evacuates this heat to the outside.
In order to reduce the pressure losses, the ends of the tube 4 can be fitted with nozzles 6 and 7. The strip 5 could also be replaced by a closed pipe, its upper end pierced over its entire length. , radial orifices, into which air would be injected by some means. Other variants can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the present invention.
