<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Device for centering and locking self-propelled vehicle wheel discs, more particularly discs without a central hole passing through the wheel hub, in Automatic devices used for mounting and removing tires,
The present invention relates to a device suitable for centering and locking the disc wheels of self-propelled vehicles, and more particularly disc wheels without a central hole passing through the hub of the wheel, in equipment intended for the assembly and disassembly of vehicles. tires of said wheels.
It is known that in conventional devices for mounting and removing tires from disc wheels of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
self-propelled vehicles, the centering and blocking of the wheel disc resting on the suspension plane of the apparatus are effected substantially by means of a frustoconical body, which can slide by means of screwings along a vertical central axis to engage in the central hole of the disc wheel provided for the passage of the hub, and thus perform the centering and locking,
This implies the need for the wheel disc to have the central hole passing through it, and when this hole is missing the existing devices cannot be used.
The use of recent testers for wheels devoid of the central hole passing through them has raised the problem of using the equipment already known also for these wheels, and the device according to the present invention proposes to solve this problem in a rational and efficient manner.
The device according to the present invention is substantially characterized in that it comprises means which can be associated with the support column of said apparatus reproducing the components of the vehicle used for fixing the wheel.
The device according to the present invention and its operation will be better understood from the following description of two exemplary embodiments illustrated without limitation in the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 shows in partial axial section a first embodiment of the device according to the invention suitable for disc type wheels without central hole with fixing by bolts,
FIG. 2 represents the device under the same conditions as those of FIG. 1, seen from above.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 3 is a cross section taken along the line III-III of Figure 2, which shows a detail of the device.
Figure 4 shows in axial section a second embodiment of the device according to the invention, suitable for wheels of the disc type without a central hole passing through it, with fixing with a hexagonal hub, and Figure 5 is a view along the plane VV in figure 4.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3, on the column 1 of the apparatus there is associated with the upper part a support disc 2 having at least three radial notches 3 in which the pads 4 slide; pads have in their upper face coplanar with the disc 2, threaded blind holes 5 in which are hoisted bolts 6 with which the wheel disc 7 is tightened on the support disc. For this purpose, the lower flange 8 of a bell 9 has openings 10, coming in correspondence with the pads 4 through which it is possible to pass the bolts 6 which also pass through the normal holes provided in the disc 7 of the wheel. for its application to the car.
On the rod 11 provided in the upper part of the said bell, a ring 12 can turn idle, which ring has two pins 13 and 13 'placed face to face, which serve to anchor known means for mounting and dismounting the tires,
The operation of the device is obvious: after having arranged the pads 4 in such a way that their holes can correspond with those of the wheel on which one must act, the said wheel is pressed on the disc 2 on which the bell rests. 4 in such a way that the openings provided in the flange of the bell are also located in correspondence with
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the holes drilled in the shoes; then introduce from above the bolts which are screwed thus blocking the wheel disc and the bell against the support disc.
It is thus possible to proceed '@ to the mounting and the disassembly of the tire in known manner.
In the embodiment of Figures 4 and 5, was mounted on the upper end of the column a hub 14 consisting of a support disc 16 and a projection 17 having the shape of a hexagonal prism traversed partly axially in the center by an internally threaded hole. The hub, 14 is mounted on the column by simply screwing its threaded portion 19 into the threaded hole 20 of the column itself. The device further comprises a screw 21 adapted to be screwed into the hole 19 of the hexagonal projection 17, In use, the disc 22 of the wheel to be repaired, which is a disc with a hollow central part of hexagonal section 23, is associated with the column 1 'in the manner illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 4, provided with the said hollow part 23 on the projection 17.
The wheel, thus prevented from turning, is fixed axially by introducing the screw 21 through the small hole 24 of the hollow part 23 and by screwing until tightening in the hole 18 of the hexagonal groove 17.
Operation of the apparatus then occurs in the conventional manner.
Of course, other practical embodiments of the invention can be used within the scope of the invention.
