Process for the preparation of crosslinked plastics into polyurethanes,
It is known that starting from predominantly linear condensation or polymerization products which contain active hydrogen atoms as end groups and have a molecular weight greater than 800, crosslinked, high molecular weight artificial materials are obtained. in the reaction with diisocyanates and lycols having a molecular weight lower than --- 800.
,
With essentially bifunctional 0, -.-- Os having a molecular weight greater than 800, mainly polyesters, polyester acids, polyithers, polythiothers and polyacetals having hydroxyl groups are contemplated.
Appropriate isocyanates are all aliphatic, aromatic and agromatico-aliphatic diisocyanates such as, for example, toluylene-diisocyanates, phenylene-diisocyana-

00an-me glycols having a molecular weight of less than 800 include water, aliphatic glycols, diamines and symmetrical glycols and diamines such as p-phenylene-di- (3-hydroxyethyl-ether, naphthalne-1 , 5-di α-h ;, rdroxyethyl-ether and diphenylmethane-4, '- di - Yzydroxythyl-ether.
In a first stage of operation, a product which can be laminated and capable of storage is prepared with the aid of a deficit quantity of diisocyanate. By incorporating in the rolling mill
EMI2.2
Additional polyisocyanates, in particular heat-labile polyisocyanates such as urethane-diisocyanates, are crosslinked to the laminable prepolymer.
By this process it is possible to work artificial materials in elastic polyurethanes in the known manner. for natural rubber and on known machines for natural rubber. This gives elastic materials such as rubber having a fairly low modulus of elasticity.
By mixing up to 30% of known fillers therein, an increase in the modulus of elasticity is obtained. Larger amounts of fillers significantly lower the mechanical properties.
It is also known to prepare, from an intermediate stage capable of storage, crosslinked artificial materials by addition of isocyanate, this over a wide range of hardness and modulus adjustment, without adversely influencing the remaining mechanical properties, with devices common in the rubber industry.
For this purpose the reaction product capable of storage, which has been prepared from a polyhydroxy compound having a molecular weight

Until now, catier, cies endowed with good mechanical properties could only be obtained with -'ee el, rools or symmetrical amines such as -? I ± nylene-j3-,: hydroxyethyl-ether, napito, lGne. .1, 5 - dihydroryCthyl-etYer, benzidine,

Y = halogen, -0-alkyl, alkyl, nitro, carboxylic sster, carboxamide,
R = - (OH2) x-, -CO-O (CH2) x-, -O- (CH2) x, x having a value of 1 to 4.
As Table 1 indicates, the mechanical values obtained in the use of these compounds are even even better than in the case of p-phenylene-ss-dihydroxyethyl-ether, which is the best of the lycols known hitherto, when - that one operates with the same formulation, the same molar quantity of chain extension agents and the same reaction conditions.
