<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Des mécanismes d'entraînement au genre spécifié sont utiles lorsqu'on veut raccourcir autant que possible la période nécessaire pour faire tourna l'arbre à entraîner par intermittence d'un certain angle et allonger la période pendant laquelle l'arbre est Stationnaire (un mécanisme d'entraînement dit. croix de Malt$ accéléré;

Driving mechanism, in particular for driving motion pictures.
The present invention relates to a driving mechanism, in particular for driving motion pictures, in which a uniformly rotating drive shaft drives, intermittently by means of a cross. Malta, a second shaft via a first element wedged on the drive shaft and a second element which can rotate around a shaft mounted eccentrically with respect to the drive shaft, these two elements being secured to one another by a notch-crank plate mechanism.
By the term "notch-crank plate mechanism" is meant a mechanism comprising two parallel shafts, one of which is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
carries a crank plate whose crankpin cooperates with a notch formed in an element fixed to the other shaft so that the shafts can drive each other.
Drive mechanisms of the type specified are useful when it is desired to shorten as much as possible the period required to rotate the shaft to be driven intermittently through a certain angle and to lengthen the period during which the shaft is Stationary (a mechanism drive called Malt cross $ accelerated;
. These mechanisms are used. for example in those motion picture projectors where it is important to reduce the shutter phase or period as much as possible in order to minimize light gates by obscuring the projection screen required during movement of the film *
Drive mechanisms of this kind are already known but, in order to obtain the desired effect, they require on the drive shaft a very large plate which is difficult to incorporate into a construction, while the large dimensions of the mechanism to notched crank plate produce very high inertia forces giving rise to considerable wear * In addition, in this mechanism,
we are not free to choose the location of the trees,
The object of the present invention is to avoid these drawbacks and, to this end, the mechanism is fitted with a second notched plate-crank mechanism by which the second -element is secured to a crank which cooperates with the Maltese cross * i
An advantageous embodiment is characterized in that the crank which cooperates with the Maltese cross rotates on a shaft placed in the extension of the drive shaft, or on the drive shaft itself.
This arrangement is possible thanks to the freedom in the choice of the locations of the shafts and offers the advantage that the construction can be incorporated in a mechanism provided with a cross drive device.

Another plate 11 can turn around the eccentric plate and comprises a notch 12 and a notch 13. The too 12 cooperates with

notch, Notch 13 cooperates with a too 14 on plate 5 and forae with this notch a second notch plate-crank mechanism.
Of course, one is entirely free to choose the place of the toc 4 on the plate $ so that the position of Marble with respect to Marble 1 can also be determined arbitrarily.
The operation of the mechanism will be described with reference to the diagram in fig.2. In this figure, the solid lines indicate a determined relative position of the elements, for which the Maltese cross begins to rotate, and the dotted lines indicate a second position, in which the shaft 1 a has rotated by an angle a after which the Maltese cross has stopped rotating. When the shaft 1, together with the plate 7, a rotates from this angle, the disc 11, with the notch 12 and the notch 13, has rotated around the center 10 of the eccentric by an angle 0 which is greater than to a. The toc 14 and therefore the plate 5 then rotate around the axis of the shaft 1 by an angle y which is still greater than the angle ss.
To move the key 14 of the plate 5 by a given angle, it is therefore sufficient to rotate the shaft 1 by an angle [alpha].
In fig. 1, the initial and final positions of the elements are symmetrical with respect to a line connecting the center of the tree 1 to the center 10 of the eccentric so that the angles [alpha] 1 and [alpha] 2 which together force l 'angle [alpha] are equal.
However, these angles can also be different.
In the embodiment shown in fig.3, the shafts 1 and 2 are journaled in a housing 15. The shaft 1 is driven in a uniform manner by a plate 16. A Maltese cross 6 is wedged on the 'shaft 2 which is driven by the catch 4 provided on the plate 5 which can rotate freely on the shaft 1.
Element 7 comprising a notch in the form of a! fork 8 is caié on the shaft 1. An eccentric 9 is rigidly connected to the housing 15 by pins 17; the shaft 1 rotates in a bore formed in this eccentric and the plate 11 rotates on its periphery; the plate 11 can also rotate freely and offset
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
trially with respect to the shaft 1. A catch 12 which cooperates with the fork 8 of the element 7 is rigidly connected to the plate 11.
The plate 11 also has a notch drilled by radial sliding surfaces 13, in which a too 14 provided on the plate 5 can slide * The sliding surfaces 13 and the activa part of the too 14 which together form the second plate mechanism. crank notch are located, seen in the axial sound system between the boundary surfaces of element 7 which gives an assembly of very compact construction * The surfaces / boundaries are indicated in chain lines in fig. 3 and are indicated in
18 and 19.
In fact, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described. Thus, for example, the tocs and the notches of the notched chainring-crank mechanisms can alternatively be interchanged.
