Process for the preparation of cyclopentanophenanthrene derivatives.
The present invention relates to a new process for the preparation of cyclopentanophenanthrene derivatives.
It more particularly relates to a new process for the preparation of 21-phosphates of cortical hormones, the same as the corresponding metal salts. The new process which is the object of the present invention gives compounds of

R4 and R5 each represent hydrogen or a residue of a hydrocarbon radical containing up to 8 carbon atoms, straight chain, branched, cyclic or mixed aliphatic cyclic, saturated or unsaturated, including aromatic groups, while R 'represents hydrogen, an alkali metal or an aloalino-earth metal, as well as other metal salts, such as for example zinc; when R3 is a divalent metal, the oxygen atoms of the phosphate radical are branched to a single atom of the metal.
R3 can also represent a monovalent alkali metal and the other R3 can be a hydrogen atom, thus representing the monoatomatic salts of alkali metals.
The acyloxy group is derived from hydro-carbonated carboxylic acids containing less than 12 carbon atoms, which may be saturated or unsaturated, straight chain, branched, oyol or mixed aliphatic cyclic, including aromatic hydrocarbons, while being capable of being also be substituted with functional groups, such as for example a hydroxy group, an alkoxy group containing up to 5 carbon atoms, an aoyloxy group containing up to 12 carbon atoms, a group

In this equation, X, Y, Z, Z1, Z2, R, R1, R2 and R3 have the meanings given above.
In addition to those already mentioned, the starting material (1) for the above process may contain other functional groups which do not disturb the reaction, such as, for example, halogens, mono-, di- or trihalomethyl groups, alkyl oyano groups. , nitro, phenylamino, aminoalkyls or hydroxy, in the following positions: C-2, C-4, 0-5, 0-6, 0-7, 0-9, 0-11, 0-12, 0-16 and C-17; there can also be double bonds between C-7, C-8; 0-15, C-16.
When there are hydroxyl or amino groups in the primary or secondary carbon atoms, these groups are protected by the formation of corresponding esters. If there are two hydroxyl groups in adjacent carbon atoms, they can be protected as the corresponding oetonides.

R6-N = C = N-R6 where R6 is chosen from the group comprising an aliphatic radical,
alkyl and aromatic containing up to 12 carbon atoms, as well as in the presence of a tertiary organic base, to obtain the corresponding steroidal 21-alkylphoaphate, the alkyl group of the latter compound is hydrolyzed with an alkali selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkaline earth metal hydroxides, basic alkali metal salts and basic alkaline earth metal salts, to thereby form the corresponding metal salt of the derivative of 21-steroidal phosphate -from the pregnane series, then the metal group is removed by treatment with an ion exchange resin of the acid type (H +),
to thus obtain the steroldic formula 21-phosphate:
