<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Les photo-sensibiliseurs préférés selon l'in- vention sont des composés contenant des groupes carbonyles;

"Process for obtaining cyolo-buta-dindene"
The invention relates to obtaining a new class of compounds, the base product of which is cyclobutadiindene,
It has been discovered that indene is subjected, under the conditions of sensitized photosynthesis to dimerization, a double bond of each indene molecule reacting with the other in such a way that a dimer is formed containing the cyclo-butane ring or nucleus.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention µ, consequently for object a process for obtaining a cycle-buta-diindene, which consists in subjecting the indene in liquid phase, in the presence of photosensitizers, to the conditions of photo-synthesis,
The dimer formed can not only be used according to the invention, as a raw material for the preparation of dyes, for example, but it is also of particular interest as an intermediate for the preparation of indexes. do high purity. It has in fact been discovered that a simple thermal dissociation makes it possible to transform the cyclobuta * diindene back into the indene monomer.
A subject of the invention is therefore also a process for obtaining high purity indene, according to which a raw material containing indene is subjected to the photosensitized cyclodimerization according to the invention.
The diindene is then extracted in the pure state, for example by crystallization or distillation, from the constituents which have not entered into reaction, then '. the indene is recovered in the high purity state by thermal dissociation.
It was surprisingly found that, under the conditions of the photosynthesis according to the invention, the usual polymerization of indene under the action of light does not take place.
The cyclization reaction according to the invention is carried out in the liquid phase. The simplest is to operate on solutions of the sensitizers in liquid indene.
But it is also possible to additionally use solvents, which can be both polar and non-polar. Preference should be given, in particular, to the corresponding organic solvents and, in particular, to hydrocarbon compounds of aliphatic or aromatic nature, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Preferred photosensitizers according to the invention are compounds containing carbonyl groups;
aldehydes are suitable and also especially ketones, these carbonyl groups possibly being present several times in the sensitizers, for example in the form of poly-ketones. It is possible to use, according to the invention, for example the acetone, benzo-phenone, benzo-aldehyde, Miohler's ketone, d.iacetyl or benzyl. Corresponding thio-carbonyl compounds, for example Michler's thio-oetone, are also suitable as sensitizers.
Other sensitizers such as, for example, dinaphthylene, can also be used within the framework of the invention,
The most suitable sensitizer in each case is determined, in a manner known per se, by harmonizing each time the emission spectrum of the light source used with the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer. The photochemical reaction is carried out moreover in the known manner; the reaction or transformation is carried out under the action of sources of radiation capable of emitting a light capable of being absorbed by the sensitizers, preferably in the band. wavelengths from 250 to 600 m u.
The reaction can thus be carried out over a wide temperature range advantageously between -50 and + 80 C.
The above-mentioned dissociation of the product of the oyolodimerization into high purity indene is carried out very simply by distillation under normal pressure of the product of dimerization.
Apart from indene, it is possible to submit to the process of the invention homologues of indene,
