Les platines auxiliaires sont montées dans les fentes de guidage de tambour à dessin, de manière telle qu'elles peuvent tire accouplées avec leurs platines correspondantes par pivotement dans le plan des fentes de guidage, au choix, dans les deux sens du mou- vement radial ou dans un sens seulement. Le mouvement des platines ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Drawing drum for controlling the needles of circular knitting machines, according to the drawing to be made, using plates fitted in the drum.
The invention relates to drawing drums for circular knitting machines with plates moving radially during operation and to an electromagnetic selection device for them, the magnets acting, in accordance with the drawing to be executed on oscillating levers which transmit their movements. to the turntables.
It has previously been proposed that the plates movable during the operation of the drawing drums in question are brought into the working position by elastic bars which, with a view to the selection of the plates according to the drawing to be executed, are influenced by one or more magnets. so as to be, for example bandaged or released by one of these according to the design to be executed; @ and, when the bars are released, they print to the @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
plates the movement bringing them into the working position or initiate this movement.
These levers in the form of elastic bars) which directly move the plates radially must have a length such that, when they are loaded, they can be maintained by a magnet having sufficient speed of response and therefore a reduced force of attraction; on the other hand, the elastic force of these bars must have a value such that it can set the corresponding plates in motion from their rest position.
The exact correlation of these two properties of elastic bars imposes severe conditions, from the point of view of their uniformity, as regards the material and the degree of hardness.
Small differences can result in incorrect operations. The longer the elastic bars, the less adverse influence of a different quality.
As in the drawing drums of the type in question, known previously, the elastic bars directly actuate the plates, they must in principle be perpendicular to the plane of the drum, so that their length determines the height of the drum and its dimensions, which must be maintained. as low as possible.
The object of the invention is to make the construction height of the design tanbour independent of the length of the swing levers. This object is achieved by causing the plates to be actuated by auxiliary plates on which the oscillating levers act, in principle arranged radially.
The auxiliary stages are mounted in the pattern drum guide slots, in such a way that they can pull coupled with their corresponding stages by pivoting in the plane of the guide slots, as desired, in both directions of the radial movement. or one way only. The movement of the turntables;

auxiliaries directed in the same direction as the radial movement of the plates is caused by a fixed cam.

To allow the selection of auxîliiol plates ,,, -t, '. consequently of the plates, in the reduced tl'll1lp'lt available t the i.u additionally ensure the position of the plates in their sulac "ted position while passing through the working position, it is prevl- 'O: '' '"' 1 in what has been proposed previously oscillating levers formed of straight springs, at the rate of a spring for cLt'c auxiliary pis ** tine and which, by pivoting out of their nos1t: 1.o, . nr!: 1t \! cause the auxiliary boards to move dr..ne: .. Before reaching the working position, the oscillating 1v1rJ run through two ramps, the first of which is

These
EMI3.5
ramps operating the swinging levers, a'cst - d.re a 'shave pivoting downward pivoting the aux111 & p. and a ramp moving these in the radial direction * $ are controlled in relation to each other in such a way, after leaving the working position, all the plates and auxiliary plates keep their position, only after completion of this fraction of a revolution, all the plates are returned to their inactive position and that at the selection point, the oscillating coils whose associated plates must remain in inactive position are
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
maintained in their raised position, while the levers remain.,
with the help of the cam behind the selection station push the corresponding auxiliary plates downwards and couple them, in both radial directions, with the associated plates, after which, by a forward movement of all the auxiliary boards, these boards are wave in the working position, while the other boards remain in their Inactive position.
With the mentioned pivot cam, the auxiliary stages associated with the stages in the Inactive position pivot downwards in their advanced position and are coupled with these stages, for radial movement in both directions.
The auxiliary stages are constructed in such a way that they can be coupled by the swing levers with the suitably constructed stages also, for radial movement, in one or both directions.
The movement, in accordance with the drawing to be made, of the plates by means of the auxiliary plates and the oscillating levers allows a locking of all the plates in working position.
Furthermore, the disturbing influences exerted on the plates cannot cause any bending of the springs, because they are placed before the auxiliary plates.
In the working position, the auxiliary plates keep the inner ends lowered. of the plates, against the pressure of the needle heels exerting themselves on their outer ends. In the drawing drums of the invention, with radially movable stages and auxiliary stages, the free ends of the rocking levers also moving radially can be at the maximum distance from each other, close to the periphery of the drum, which facilitates the selection by the maneuvering magnet. The radial position of the oscillating levers also facilitates the installation of the operating magnets which

can act from the top.
According to another characteristic of the invention, there is provided, at the selection station, in the direction of movement of the drawing drum and behind the operating magnet, a retaining magnet which brings into the upper part of the cam next, the oscillating lever held by the operating magnet in the raised position.
Under the operating and retaining magnets, an auxiliary magnet is provided, which is located under the operating magnet and under a part of the retaining magnet and whose polar expansions are located in the plane where the springs in normal position.
The accompanying drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of the invention.

The drawing drum is mounted so as to rotate with its housing 1 carrying the other parts and consisting, for manufacturing reasons, of two parts 1a and 1b, on the axle 2 fixed to the machine. The casing 1 is closed at the top by the removable bolted cover 3. In part lb of the casing, are mounted in radial mortises of a ring also hiding part of the casing 1, the bars 4 in the form of plates, between which the free ends of the plates move in a reciprocating motion 5.
These bars 4 are engaged in the known manner, '. the way of a toothing, with the needle cylinder, so that the drawing drum rotates at the same peripheral speed as this checkerboard. The plates 5 are mounted so as to be able to move radially ,, in guide grooves of the ring 1d applied to the ring 1c. Behind the plate 5, in the direction of the axis of the drawing drum, are mounted the auxiliary plates 6, which can move radially in guide grooves of the part lb of the housing and pivot in their plane of movement. snnulaire the casing which rests on the parts la and lb thereof are mounted in radial mortises of the straight springs 7, the ends 7a of which are bent at right angles,
are held by a ring 1f against the cylindrical inner wall of the annular recess of the part 1c and held from the top, at the

As shown in Fig. 5, the bars 4 are inserted, with respect to the generatrices of the drum intended at an angle

corresponding to the inclination thereof ppr relative to the needles of the cylinder. The surfaces of the plates 5 are in contêqu "noe inclined relative to the axis of the drum and move in
EMI7.3
their milled guide grooves 5 ', also inclined in the same way, in part ld (fridge 4) and at right angles to tnrret-tes 4 (fi ,, - 5 and rig. 8). The plates 5 (fig. .8) have at their internal end a heel 5a projecting upwards, a notch 5b behind the front edge of the heel 5a and, a certain distance, corresponding to the length of the displacement t3es pit "tints, from the position. inactive until the position of 't; a7: -il. a second notch 5c.
At the free front end, the laughing bj'x3: .tTar is provided, in the known manner, with an overlay 'Sdj, eu? which pass the knitting needles.
The auxiliary plate 6 (fig. 7) has, at its front edge, a heel 6a, projecting upwards, the upper edge 6b of which is curved at right angles along the width of the plate 5 * The edge vertical front 6c is also folded at a right angle from the upper edge 6d to the inside front edge 6e, fors or a branch corresponding to the width of the plate 5. The rear part 6f of the 6e edge is staggered downwards and turns at an acute angle to the horizontal, up to the rear edge 6g which ends upwards by a heel 6h, the upper edge of which is turned down.
Each plate 5 is associated with an auxiliary plate 6, in such a way that the latter is located locally immediately next to the plate. The oblique rear lower edge 6f allows the auxiliary plate 6 to pivot in its guide, upwards
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
and down, around the rear end of that edge.
The rear foot 6h of the auxiliary plate 6 is guided in a groove X3 located in the cover. The lower part 6c, folded laterally at right angles, of the anterior edge of the auxiliary plate 6 embraces the anterior edge of the heel 5a of the plate (fig. 1). As a result of the movement of the auxiliary plate 6 caused by the groove K3 and because of its pivoting movement in the plane of the guide slot, the cause of which will be described later, the auxiliary plate can pivot with its part 6c in the notch 5b or in the notch 5c of the plate 5, so that, in each of the two positions, the plate 5 is coupled with the auxiliary plate 6.
If the auxiliary plate 6 swivels upwards, so that its lower edge 6e is somewhat above the upper edge of the plate 5, the plate is only coupled in one direction with the auxiliary plate by the part bc thereof which applies to the front edge of the heel 5a of the plate. The plates 5 are therefore only driven by the auxiliary plates during their inward movement. The radial movement of the auxiliary plates is caused by the groove K3, as already indicated. The pivoting movement is caused by the springs 7, each of which, by applying to the side faces of the auxiliary plate 6, is associated with the latter.
The free end of the springs moves between the folded part 6c at the lower part of the anterior end of the plate 6 and the curved part 6b at the upper end of the anterior heel 6a of the auxiliary plate.
In its rest position, the lower edge of the spring is very close above the upper end of the curved part 6c, in a pivoting position of the auxiliary plate 6 with respect to the plate 5, or the lower front edge 6e of the auxiliary plate is located exactly above the upper edge of the plate 5 (fig, 1).
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The free ends 7b of the springs) * are located near the ramps K1 and K2, mounted in cover 3. These cams move the springs up and down, from their normal position * (fig. 1), as shown in this figure, the springs shown in dotted lines. When the spring is moved up, the auxiliary plate 6 is held in the position (freeze 1) where it is mated in one direction only with the plate 5. If the spring rotates will make the bottom, the bent part 6c can enter into it. one of the two notches 5b or 5c of the plate 5 and thus couple the auxiliary plate 6 With the plate 5, for a movement in both directions.
A downward pivoting movement of the auxiliary plate 6 is furthermore caused by a pivoting ramp K4, mounted in the cover 3.
All the ramps K1 and K2 for the springs, K4 for the downward pivoting movement and the downward maintenance of the auxiliary plates 6, and the K3 groove for the radial movement of the latter, are integral with the fixed cover 3, attached to axis 2. The cams for the springs include the input ramp K1 and the output ramp K2. Between the two cams, there is an opening into which the actuating and retaining magnet 8 engages from above and the auxiliary magnet 9 from below. The actuating and retaining magnet Sa - 8b, is assembled by means of an angle 10 to the fixed cover 3. The auxiliary magnet 9 is also integral with the cover 3.
Depending on the direction of movement of the springs between ramps K1 and K2, the length of the pole shoes of the operating magnet 8a is reduced to such an extent that one spring after the other can be attracted by passing in front of this magnet and therefore, during an uninfluenced passage be kept tense or relaxed. The retaining magnet 8b has the function of retaining in the position reached * the spring 7 attracted by the operating magnet 8a, until it comes close to.

In the following fraction of revolution designated ** by 0, the auxiliary plates 6 are influenced neither by their groove K3, nor by the ramp K4. The auxiliary boards remain with the boards 5 withdrawn towards the rear in the position shown in the

freezes 10. Shortly after the start of the parttf of the movement designated by G, the ramp Kl ends for the springs 7. These come one after the other to bring operating magnets 8.
Depending on whether or not the operating magnet is under tension, the spring 7 passing under it will be maintained in its nipple * vee position (pin 10) or will fall elastically downwards in the force field of the auxiliary magnet 9.
In the part of revolution designated by G, the springs held in their upper position move nearby
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
of the ramp K2 starting at this point, that is to say near the upper edge thereof. The retaining magnet 8d ensures, on this route, that the springs cannot pivot downwards. The springs selected and having rotated downwards are in the normal position and come close to the lower edge of cam 2.
In the next part H of the movement, the springs 7 which are in their upper position are raised somewhat by the upper edge of the ramp K2. The pivoting ramp K4 gives way in the upward measurement to the auxiliary plates 6. At the same time, begins in this zone, an inward movement of the auxiliary plates 6 all the action of the K3 groove.
In the next section of the movement designated by J, the inward movement of the auxiliary plates 6 continues until they apply through their front part 6c to the front edge of the heel 5a of the plate. The auxiliary plates 6, not lifted by the springs 7, approaching the ramp K2, can fall again due to gravity in the notch 5b of the plate 5 during the next fraction of a turn designated by K.
In the following section L, the springs 7 advancing along the lower edge of the ramp K2 are pushed downwards and thus now necessarily bring the auxiliary plates 6 into the notches 5b of the plates 5. The auxiliary plates 6 assigned to the springs sliding the along the upper edge of the ramp K2 are held in the upper position of] fig. 1 by the springs and the pivoting ramp K4 adapted to this position, so that only the auxiliary plates 6 selected by falling into the notches 5b of the plates 5, are coupled to the latter.
In the next part M all the auxiliary plates 6 advance by a distance corresponding to the spacing of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
sizes 5d and 5c of plate 5, so that the plates 5 Coupled, in accordance with the drawing, to the auxiliary plates 6 emit in their working position, while the other plates 5 remain stationary, (path to the left in fig. . 9d).
The auxiliary plates 6 not coupled to the plates 5 thus arrive with their end 6c close to the anterior notch 5c of the plates 5 which have remained in place.
In the next section N, the auxiliary plates 6 which are not in the raised position are pushed downwards by the pivoting ramp K4 and engage in the notches 5c of the plates 5 which remained in place, so that the auxiliary plates. Liaires 6 block all the plates 5, either in their working position or in their inactive position, against a radial movement or a tilting movement. During this part N of the revolution, the springs 7 are returned to their normal position. In this chosen and locked position, the plates now reach the working position at the end of the 0 revolution fraction.
The springs are in the normal position, therefore relaxed. Behind the working position, all the moving parts keep the position they took.
Section 0 and section A, which starts over again, together constitute about 75% of the revolution.
At the end of section A, the described operation starts again from the beginning with the entry in section B.
