 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 Position d'emballage.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Improvements made to convertible packaging.

   The invention relates to convertible packaging in general and more particularly to convertible packaging for a bottle of Champagne or the like., Packaging which can easily be transformed into an ice bucket for knocking the bottle of champagne or the like contained in the packaging. .

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved packaging for a bottle of champagne or the like, which it can easily handle so as to transform it into an ice bucket in order to allow the bottle it to be struck. .

     In accordance with this particular object of the invention, the packaging comprises an element forming a relatively small container for the bottle which serves to enclose and package this bottle; at the time of use, this container member can be transformed into an ice bucket or other coolant, to knock it on, avoiding the need to remove the bottle from the packaging and then place it in a bucket classic ice cream.

   The invention also aims to provide an element forming a container, intended to package a bottle of
Champagne or the like, which can be deployed to take on the appearance of a bucket, allowing ice to be packed around the bottle.

   Still according to the invention, the transformation is carried out by a simple operation which consists in opening the element forming the container.

   In addition, the object of the invention is to provide a packaging. provided with improvements of a general nature for a bottle intended to contain a beverage which should normally be drunk ice-cold, this packaging comprising a container member, which can be produced economically in large series from a blank or a flat blank of 'a single piece and which is of a particularly simple shape and manufacture,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 while eliminating the need to use a conventional ice bucket to hit said drink.

   Other objects, characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description which follows.

   In the accompanying drawings given only by way of example: - * Figure 1 shows in perspective the device according to the invention, assumed in the packaging position, and containing a bottle of Champagne; - Figure 2 shows in perspective the same device itif in condition of 4 ice bucket; - Figure 3 shows in perspective the ice bucket alone, in order to show certain construction and assembly details? - Figure 4 shows a plan view of the device before it receives a bottle of champagne, and Figure 5 shows a plan view of a planar blank from which the container member is made.

   Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a package 30 comprising an element 32 forming a container, assumed to be in the packaging position, as well as a bottle B housed in this package. The bottle shown is a bottle of Champagne, but it is obvious that any suitable bottle can be packaged in this way, as long as its contents are intended to be consumed preferably chilled. When removing the retaining strip 34, the container 32 'opens or expands to form an ice bucket 32', shown in Figure 2, in which the bucket B can be placed and surrounded by ice 36 for storage. knock or ice the contents of the bottle.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   The manner in which the container 32 is formed will now be described with particular reference to Figure 5. The container 32 is preferably made from a single, one-piece planar blank 38 suitably traced and cut to allow a rapid transformation from packaging form (figure 1) to ice bucket form (figure 2). More particularly, the container blank 38 comprises a central panel 11 of square shape with bevelled angles or corners 10, as well as four rectangular panels 12 oriented radially and extended on the outside by tabs 13. The rectangular panels 12 are joined to the central square panel 11 along adjacent fold lines 14, as well as to the extension tabs 13 along fold lines 15.

   The panels 12 are joined together along their cradles by bellows designated as a whole by the reference numeral 16 (see FIG. 5). More particularly, each bellows 16 consists of six connecting panels 17 and 17 '. of substantially triangular shape, defined by fold lines 18 and 18 '. The fold lines 18 'define the boundaries between the panels 12 and their adjacent panels 17, while the fold lines 10 formed at the bevelled corners of the central square panel 11 define the inner edges of the triangular panels.

   In general, the fold lines defined above are formed by incisions made on a single flat blank 38 so as to establish signs of folding allowing the transformation of the blank into a container. This blank 38 can be made of any suitable impermeable material having the required rigidity, for example impermeable cardboard or non-stick material.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   To give this blank the. container-shaped, folds the triangular panels 17 (two on each side of each adjacent panel 12) inward and overlapping, while the panels 12 are folded along the fold lines 18 and 18 '(see figure 3).

  The extension lancets 13 are folded over the panels 12 and the folded panels -7, on the internal face of the panels 12, the Ions: lines 15. As shown in particular in Figures 3 and 4, the superimposed panels are drilled in the manner indicated in to form holes placed in alignment through the panels, these holes being intended to receive a suitable fixing member, for example a rivet 20, it serves to hold the panels in this position.

   The side walls of the container, in its closed position forming a package, are thus formed by the panels 12 and the panels 17 which cover them, the bottom of this package being formed by the central square panel 11.

   Each pair of triangular panels 17 'of each gusset, which is placed between two adjacent panels 12, is folded inwardly along the fold lines 18 to complete the formation of the container in its packaging arrangement (Figure 4). The 17 'triangular panels which are now superimposed and arranged diagonally to the center of the container are bent by hand to place them face to face with their corresponding side wall panels, allowing the container to receive a bottle of Champagne B or similar product (see figure 1).

   Fastening means, constituted by a band 34 in the case shown here, removably retain the container in its

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 Packing position. It will be noted that the container thus formed has a dissension and shapes enabling it to receive the bottle B, this container having a substantially square cross section which corresponds approximately to the central square panel 11 of the initial blank 38.

   Thus, the panel 11 constitutes the bottom of the container and the panels 12 as well as the panels 17 superimposed thereon constitute the side walls thereof, the panels 17 'being held in position in a removable manner against the side walls of the container. as shown in figure 1.

   To transform the container into an ice bucket, from the packaging arrangement shown in Figure 1, strip 34 is removed and the panels 17 'are deployed to the position shown in Figure 2, in order to give the container the shape of a substantially conical ice bucket. The panels 17 'naturally tend to unfold or unfold around their fold lines, so that by removing the retaining strip 34 the container automatically unfolds, in whole or in part, to take the form of an ice bucket. When the container is thus deployed, the bottle may be placed in, and surrounded by, ice 36 in order to strike the contents of the bottle.

   Thus, the package can be brought to the table for consumption and knocked on the spot without resorting to the conventional ice bucket or other ice container, and this simply by removing the strip and cramming ice into the deployed container. while leaving the bottle in place on panel 11. The packaging may have any pleasing appearance or attractive aesthetic,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 and it is understood that the container made of the shape described above in impermeable material will form a watertight ice bucket, this container being made entirely in one piece, without perforation. It is planned to make this container a single-use device, although it is possible to reuse it without, however, departing from the scope of the invention.

   The receptacle acted as a protective enclosure for the bottle while offering a very high degree of security by cushioning the bottle which eliminates or at least minimizes certain packaging elements normally used for shipping. bottles, such as partitions and compartments.

   Although the above description and the attached drawings refer to a particular embodiment of the invention which aims to highlight the essential principles of this invention, it is obvious that the latter can be realism in different ways. without however departing from the scope of the invention.
