<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
L'obtura-
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Le procédé consiste donc à (figure 2) ajuster, sur le support 4 un tube 1-2-3 d'une telle manière que celui-ci se trouve positivement appuyé en toutes ses parties et automatiquement fermé; à (figure 3) coiffer la tête 2-3 du tube 1 du moule ou tête d'in- jection 5 en provoquant un mouvement de translation relatif entre le support 4 et ledit moule ou tête d 'injection; à (figure 4) injecter la matière plastique de la manière traditionnelle dans le moule ou tête d'injection 2 de manière à remplir l'espace délimité, respectivement, entre ledit moule 5 et ladite tête 2-3 du tube 1;
(figure 6).
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Method and device for sealing tubes and tubes thus obtained".
This invention relates to the problem of closing off tubular elements open at both ends and more especially tubes made of light and deformable material, completely released at one end and having, at the other end, a conical head extended by a nozzle. axially perforated and, in general, externally threaded.
These deformable tubes are traditionally used for packaging pasty, viscous, semi-liquid or liquid substances or products.
Also in a traditional manner, these tubes are closed by a cap screwed onto said nozzle before filling.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the tube.
An object of the invention is to apply a new process with a view to reducing the cost and significantly increasing the productivity index in the production of such tubes considered throughout their economy, from manufacture to filling.
To this end, one of the aims of the invention consists in sparing first of all the screwing operation, respectively of fixing the plug or shutter on the end nozzle of one of the ends of the tube. The resulting economy is substantial since this operation is traditionally carried out in the usual manner, either by hand or with the aid of automatic screwing machines. Therefore, despite the simplicity of this operation and the possibility of using non-specially qualified labor, the production of such filled tubes is removed from the operational cycle, an operation limiting the production rate.
It should also be considered that, despite the fact that said screwing operation is itself very simple, the tube to be gripped and closed is relatively very delicate so that, despite its simplicity, this phase of manufacture involves special precautions, all things being discarded by the method of the invention.
Another aim of this new process consists in eliminating, for the tube producer, the dependence on a stopper producer, with the risks that this dependence implies, such as higher price, delivery times as well as all the risks that may arise. of poor workmanship, failure in the choice of raw materials or obligation, for the tube producer, to comply with the standards of the shutters. Yet another object is to provide an absolutely hermetic seal. Finally, another object of the invention consists in abandoning the use of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
seals in cork or other added material; these elements being placed; in the caps during manufacture.
In order to achieve these goals and the substantial savings and comfort which result therefrom, the method of the invention consists substantially in producing the deformable tube by traditional methods and means; to temporarily plug the nozzle extending the usual conical head if it is an open nozzle tube; firmly supporting said tube on all its parts; in molding the plug or shutter directly on said nozzle and, finally, in disengaging the tube from its provisional support and from the molding device, thus obtaining a traditional normally closed tube.
More especially, when dealing with an open nozzle tube, according to a dominant feature of the invention, the support of the tube, during the molding of the stopper or stopper, is conditioned so as to simultaneously form the closure device. provisional tube.
For this purpose, said support is profiled so as to have the shape and dimensions of the hollow parts of the tube, in such a way that, by the simple fact of placing the tube on the support, it is produced, at the same time, the total obturation as well as the firm support in all its points.
Although the molding of the plug or shutter directly on the nozzle of the tube can be carried out by any known means, use will generally be made of injection molding. The materials used for this purpose will be similar to those generally used for the manufacture of such plugs or closures.
It is nevertheless recommended to use, as much as possible, resins having a certain residence so as to somewhat facilitate the subsequent separation between the tube and its stopper.
For reasons of ease and speed of production,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the shutters or plugs will generally be chosen from those with direct release from the mold, by simple axial translational movement, without requiring a laterally movable core or screw mold.
For this purpose, we will generally choose conical, tapered, pyramidal or other stoppers, with a continuous surface and having a fruit such that demolding is made as easy as possible. It should be considered, in fact, that the method of the invention is especially intended to be applied at a relatively rapid rate by fully automatic means.
The invention also relates to devices or machines for applying said method. Generally, these devices or machines will be constituted in substance by an injection head, a base generally carrying a plurality of shutter supports for the tubes, a means for bringing together, respectively appropriately moving away said head and each of said supports, and a means for moving said base so as to make possible, at a rapid rate, successively the fixing of the tubes on their provisional stopper-support, the injection of the plugs or obturators directly on the said tube and the separation between the tube furnished with its stopper or obturator and its temporary support-ooturator.
Generally, in order to allow the supply, respectively the driving of a Lei device or machine, by a single attendant, the base carrying a plurality of such obturatears supports will be constituted by a rotary plate moved step by step so that the supports -temporary shutters for the tubes are presented one by one in front of the attendant, respectively in front of the injection head, any suitable means being provided to ensure / the approximation, respectively the distance between the said injection head and the head tube provisionally blocked and firmly supported in all, - / its parts.
This process can be completed by any operation or
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
complementary phase in proportion to the kind of tuoe and / or shutter we are dealing with. On the other hand, said method may be applied by devices or machines infinitely variable depending on the method or molding machine implemented, also depending on the means implemented to support and temporarily obstruct the tubes and to supply said machine with molding, all of which are covered by the present invention, as far as application of the / process disclosed therein.
It is therefore by way of example, without any limitation whatsoever, that an application to a tube open at both ends is described in more detail below, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGS. 1 to 6 show schematically the successive phases of a complete operational cycle in an application of the method of the invention; FIGS. 7 to 11 show schematically, in radial section, variants of shutters which can be produced by applying the method of the invention; FIG. 12 schematizes, as summarily as possible, the essential elements of a machine capable of applying the process of the invention.
In the schematic representations of Figures 1 to 6, 1 shows a deformable tube of a traditional shape, extended, on the one hand, by a frustoconical head 2, itself extended by a nozzle 3, in this case externally threaded.
4 shows a support capable of also forming a temporary shutter. The mold or injection head is shown schematically as briefly as possible at 5, this schematic representation having the sole purpose of describing the successive phases of an operational cycle. For this reason, this mold or injection head does not represent the; material inlet or air outlet channels, nor the actuators. Shut it down
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
tor is indicated in 6 and has a related form in itself.
The method therefore consists in (FIG. 2) adjusting, on the support 4, a tube 1-2-3 in such a way that the latter is positively supported in all its parts and automatically closed; in (FIG. 3) cap the head 2-3 of the tube 1 of the mold or injection head 5, causing a relative translational movement between the support 4 and said mold or injection head; in (FIG. 4) injecting the plastic material in the traditional manner into the mold or injection head 2 so as to fill the space delimited, respectively, between said mold 5 and said head 2-3 of the tube 1;
in separating the mold or injection head 2 from said tube head 2-3 so as to release the shutter 6, which is correctly adjusted in the closed position on the nozzle 2 and the underlying part of the frustoconical head 2 (figure 5); finally, to separate the tube 1-2-3-6 from the support! (figure 6).
In the examples of FIGS. 7 to 11, we find all the above-described elements, only the conformation of the nozzle and the shape of the shutter 6 being modified, this independently of the characteristics of the process itself. These variants can be multiplied indefinitely.
This process can be applied by also very different means, whether we are dealing with a manual installation, or whether we are dealing with a semi-automatic or automatic installation.
By way of example, FIG. 12 very briefly schematizes a machine allowing production at an accelerated rate involving only a reduced workforce.
In this schematic view, there are supports 4 distributed along the periphery of a rotary plate 7 mounted on an axis 8 engaged in the frame 9 of the machine. On this frame is also supported the injection machine 10 whose head
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
5 is disposed above and at a suitable distance from the crown delimited by said supports 4. The plate 1 is capable of being driven by an upward movement and a cashier movement so as to bring together, respectively separate one of the the other injection head .2 and the co-axial support 4.
It is therefore sufficient to provide said plate 7 with a step-by-step rotation means so as to immobilize, each time, a support 4 co-axially with respect to the injection head. Therefore, an attendant at the location opposite the platform 7 from said injection head, can place, successively, on each support 4, a tube 1-2-3, respectively withdraw from each of said supports 4, such a tube fitted with an ooturator 6.
This machine is obviously indicated by way of example, without any limiting nature.
