<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to domestic appliances for heating water, of the instantaneous bath and water heater type.
It is known that in existing apparatus the known devices for connecting water and gas, as well as the taps and welds are mostly visible when the apparatus is installed.
According to one characteristic of the invention, the outer casing constituting the cowling of the apparatus is extended downwards and comprises, in this extended part, the fittings and stop valves for water and gas, an opening provided at the base of the extended part of the casing allowing water and gas inlets.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the whole of the heating body of the apparatus and of its valve is fixed on a plate located at. inside and at a certain distance from the bottom of the casing. In the space left free between this plate and the base of the enclosure are fixed the fittings and shut-off valves which are easily accessible from below or from the front by simply removing the front of the enclosure.
The invention also relates to the use of a removable bottom with respect to the rear part of the casing of the apparatus, said rear part fitting into or fixing to this bottom.
On this base, at its lower part, it is possible to provide connections and taps for water and gas inlet and outlet.
At its upper part there may be provided a support serving for fixing the draft or anti-backflow as well as fasteners themselves serving to fix the device.
Such an arrangement makes it possible to ensure a height and a well-determined orientation of the anti-backflow relative to the exhaust orifice of the burnt gases of the device.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which follows and which relates to an embodiment of an improved bath heater according to the invention.
In this description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which show: fig. 1 a front view of the apparatus, the front part of the casing being supposed to be removed; fig. 2 a side axial sectional view of the casing and of the plates; fig. 3 a perspective view of the back of the device; fig. 4 a perspective view of the removable bottom; fig. 5 an elevational view of a branch box; fig. 6 a profile view relating to FIG. 5; fig. 7 a view from the back of the box.
In the embodiment shown, the apparatus is of the bath heater type. Its heating body and its valve, of a known type, are shown schematically in 1 and 2 and its ring of burners in 3,
The device itself is placed in an envelope consisting of a front or front part 4 and a rear part 5.
As can be seen in Figures 1 and 2, the casing is extended downwards to form a chamber 6 open to the rear part at 7.
The whole of the heating body and the valve is fixed on a plate 8 located at the top of the chamber 6. This plate is used to fix the heating body and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the valve on the rear part of the casing. It is also used to secure the water 9-9a and gas 10 connections.
It can be seen that in chamber 6 it is possible to place the fittings and water and gas shut-off valves which are very easily accessible from below or from the front by removing the front panel 4.
After installation of the device, only the fluid inlet pipes are visible if they are arranged parallel to the wall. In the event that the tubes pass through the wall, no matching tube is apparent. The entire device and its casing is also designed so that the installation is done against walls or partitions without providing space.
On the other hand, the rear part of the envelope can, according to one embodiment, be cut to obtain a removable bottom 11. This bottom can be machined so as to be able to be attached and fixed to the rear part of the envelope. loppe.
This bottom has at its base a bent portion 12 with folded edge 13 serving for fixing the inlet and outlet valves for water and gas. Because of the shape given to this part of the back, it becomes possible to bring the pipes 18-19 either parallel to the wall or directly from the wall supporting the appliance, while having only one usual threaded connection via shut-off valve.
On the other hand, this bottom comprises at its upper part a support 14 on which is fixed the draft hood 15. It also comprises fasteners 16 for receiving the device.
It will be noted that this arrangement of the removable bottom relative to the device and the fixing of the draft hood on this bottom make it possible to obtain a well-determined height and orientation of the anti-backflow relative to the orifice of evacuation 17 of the burnt gases from the appliance.
The assembly which has just been described makes it possible to assemble and disassemble the device in a particularly simple and rapid manner. The installer fixes the bottom 11 supporting the shut-off valves on the wall or the partition by means of screws entering the buttonholes 20 of the bottom. It connects the pipes coming from or parallel to the wall by means of the same fittings and it fixes the draft hood and the pipes which connect to it. All he then has to do is hook the device onto the base which fits into the cut-out part of the rear part of the casing and finally connect to the shut-off valves.
He finally sets up the facade of the envelope.
To remove the device, it is not necessary to remove the draft hood which remains attached to the bottom. On the other hand, on removal, the taps remaining connected to the pipes form barrier taps.
In the embodiment which has just been described, the base 11 comprises at its lower part the fittings for connecting the device.
According to a variant, a connection boot separate from the apparatus and which supports the water shut-off and gas shut-off valves is used. This boot allows, by means of the fittings provided on its internal wall, the water, gas and hot water outlet connections with the pipes arranged parallel to the wall or embedded or passing through the wall. The device is then connected to its taps attached to this connection boot.
Figs. 5 to 7 represent such a branch box.
This boot has a front 21 a wall 22 forming the top and side walls 23-23a. This boot is therefore open at its base and on its c8té parallel to the facade 21. It is fixed to the wall or to the partition, for example by means of screws penetrating into holes 24 of the folded part 25 of the wall @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
On the front 21 of the box, inside the latter, are mounted the various fittings which include; fitting 26 on the gas inlet to the appliance, a fitting 27 for the water inlet to said appliance and a fitting 28 for the hot water outlet to the station (s) supplied by the appliance.
On the pipe 29 outside the boot and leading to the connector 26 is mounted a gas shut-off valve which, in practice, is the gas valve of the water heater or the bath heater. On the pipe 30 outside the boot or which ends at the connector 27 is mounted a water shut-off valve 31.
On the other hand, inside the box are fixed on the connectors 26, 27 and 28 respectively pipes 32, 33 and 34 when it comes to making lateral connections.
This device allows, by connections made only on the interior wall, either connections to pipes passing through the wall (in dotted lines in fig. 6), or connections to pipes parallel to the wall and coming from below. the box (in solid lines in fig. 6), or even connections on pipes parallel to the wall but coming on the sides (in dotted lines in fig. 7). The elbow pipes 32, 33 and 34 allow these last two connections. Openings 35-35a on the sides of the box allow side connections.
It will be noted that, after installation, only the fluid inlet tubes are visible, if they are arranged parallel to the wall. If the tubes pass through the wall or are recessed, no tube or connection is visible.
When removing the device, the shut-off valves remain attached to the connection box and form shut-off valves.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described but that it can be implemented according to various variants. Likewise, the provisions concerning the removable bottom and its device for fixing the valves also apply to instantaneous water heaters.
