<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>

la Fig. 2 en est une coupe transversale suivant la ligne 2-2 de la Fig. 1;
la Fig. 3 est une vue de la face interne de l'agrafe;
la Fig. 4 est une coupe longitudinale del'instrument en position d' utilisation, c'est-à-dire avec l'équipage mobile avancé et maintenu par l'encliquetage;
A l'intérieur de ce corps (1,2) est mobile, suivant son axe longitudinal XX, un équipage mobile formé ;
6;
<EMI ID=4.1>

en 24 , un angle rentrant par lequel l'agrafe peut osciller sur une barette 25 ménagée dans la portion arrière 2 du corps externe del'instrument, entre deux ouvertures, l'une arrière 26 et l'autre avant 27 par lesquelles les portions de l'agrafe situées de part et d'autre des deux angles rentrant 24 peuvent pénétrer à l'intérieur du corps;
une portion 28 de forme rectangulaire:, en saillie à l'intérieur du corps, les deux portions parallèles 28 afférentes aux deux ailes sont terminées vers l'arrière par deux pattes 29 rabattues à 90[deg.], c'est-à-dire dans un plan tran versal (voir notamment Fig. 3), tandis qu'elles forment , vers l'avant, deux ressauts transversaux 30;
l'arrière est très progressive;
un évidement 31 ;
par son extrémité arrière 34, de l'intérieur vers l'extérieur, contre la face interne de l'extrémité de l'agrafe 23;
par un coude 35, de l'extérieur vers l'intérieur, contre les deux portions formant pontet 29 de l'agrafe 23;
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
corps.
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>

The present invention relates to writing instruments with a ball, lead or other, of the so-called "retractable" type in which, inside the external body of the instrument, is movable, between a retracted position and an active working position, a moving crew that is trained, from rear to front.
a pusher and a device forming a reserve of the product (ink or lead) intended for writing and carrying the writing organ (ball, pen or anterior lead) and which is combined, on the one hand, with a spring intended to bring it back to the rear in a "retracted" position for which said member is withdrawn inside the outer body and, on the other hand, with a snap-in device with two elements, carried one by one the mobile unit and the other by the body of the instrument and intended to keep this mobile unit in an active position against this elastic device.
In known instruments of this type, the latching device is such that the length of the device forming the reserve is reduced.
The invention relates to a writing instrument of the aforementioned type
but improved in such a way that the length of said reserve is substantially equal to that of the outer body, so that at equal total length, this improved instrument allows a longer period of use than known instruments.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
latching element, integral in its longitudinal movements of the movable assembly, is constituted by a leaf spring, bent at 1800 so as to form two substantially parallel branches, of unequal lengths, the elbow being pierced with a hole in which the reserve is threaded, while the long branch is fixed to the mobile assembly, while the short branch forms, by its end, the active snap-fastening portion.
Thanks to this characteristic, the snap-fastening is very soft and takes place without the slightest noise by a progressive bending of the short branch of the spring.
According to another characteristic, the long branch of the spring is bent substantially at a right angle at its end, and this end is pierced with a hole which allows it to be engaged on the front end of the pusher.
The ratchet spring is thus brought back into the portion

invention, the conjugate peeling element consists of the usual clip for fixing the instrument in a garment pocket.
Other characteristics will result from the description which follows.

Fig. 2 is a cross section taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1;

According to the exemplary embodiment shown, the invention is assumed to be applied to a writing instrument of the tracer ball type. This instrument comprises a tubular body in two portions, one front 1, the other rear 2, joined together by means, for example, of a ring 3 fitted tightly or glued into the portion 2 and screwed in 4. on the threaded rear end 5 of the front portion 1.
Inside this body (1,2) is movable, along its longitudinal axis XX, a formed movable unit;
on the one hand, an ink cartridge 6, the front end of which is narrowed in 7 carries, at the end, the tracer ball 8, this necked end 7 being movable in the anterior hole 9 of reduced diameter, of the portion 1 of the body of the instrument and can be erased in this hole in the rest position of Figs.
1 and 5 by a usual spring 10 which bears, on the one hand, on the shoulder 11 of the portion 1 of the body and, on the other hand, on a shoulder 12 of the cartridge
6;
and, on the other hand, a rear pusher 13 projecting through

allowing the moving assembly to pass from the position of FIGS. 1 and 5 to that of FIG. 4 where the ball 8 and the adjacent portion of the constricted part
7 of the cartridge protrude, in the working position, beyond the front end of the body (l, 2).
This assembly, of conventional type, is completed according to the invention.
as follows. The front end of the rear push-button 13 is necked so as to form an end of reduced diameter 15. On this end is engaged, through a hole 16, the end 17 bent substantially at right angles to a designated leaf spring. as a whole by 18 and bent appreciably
to 1800 at 19, so that the outline abcdef of this spring (Fig.l) has very substantially the shape of a G; it comprises in particular two longitudinal branches bc and df of unequal lengths, the branch bc being longer than the branch df,
The elbow 19. is pierced with a hole 20 of a diameter such that the cartridge 6 can pass freely through it. Furthermore, the short branch df comprises, at its free end, two lateral tabs 21 which give it the shape of a T and this

cut and folded in such a way that its cross sections have a U-shape; its wings are cut along the profile visible in FIGS. 1, 4 and 5 and such that, from the rear end to the front end, each of these wings forms:
at 24, a re-entrant angle through which the clip can oscillate on a bar 25 formed in the rear portion 2 of the outer body of the instrument, between two openings, one rear 26 and the other front 27 through which the portions of the clip located on either side of the two re-entrant angles 24 can penetrate inside the body;
a portion 28 of rectangular shape:, projecting inside the body, the two parallel portions 28 relating to the two wings are terminated towards the rear by two tabs 29 folded down at 90 [deg.], that is to say say in a transverse plane (see in particular Fig. 3), while they form, towards the front, two transverse projections 30;
one of the pawls 22 of which the ramp extends towards
the rear is very progressive;
a recess 31;
and .finally, a front beak 32 bearing against the portion 2 of the body in order to clamp between this portion and itself 1 thickness of the garment intended for the immobilization of the instrument in the user's pocket,
The clip is combined with an auxiliary leaf spring, designated
as a whole by 33. This spring, which is intended to elastically maintain this clip in the normal position of FIGS. 1 and 4, is resting:
by its rear end 34, from the inside to the outside, against the inside face of the end of the clip 23;
by an elbow 35, from the outside to the inside, against the two portions forming a bridge 29 of the clip 23;
<EMI ID = 7.1>
the internal surface of portion 2 of the body of the instrument,
The operation of the instrument is as follows:
In the rest position, its various elements are in the position shown in FIG. 1. The mobile assembly (8,6,13) is returned to the rear under the action of the spring 10. This rear position, such that the ball 8 is retracted inside the hole 9 of the body (l, 2), is determined by the end stop
<EMI ID = 8.1>
body.
In this position, the two end tabs 21 of the spring 18 also abut from the front to the rear against the projections 30 of the clip
23 and contribute, therefore, in combination with the action of the spring 33, to
<EMI ID = 9.1>
instrument in the user's pocket.
When it is desired to use the instrument, it suffices to exercise
<EMI ID = 10.1>
compressing the spring 10, while the two lateral tabs 21 of the spring
18 slide on the two progressive ramps of the pair of pawls 22 of the clip 23. Due to the relatively large length of the branch def of the spring
18, the deformation of this spring is very soft.
At the end of the push-in of the pusher 13 (fig. 4), the tabs 21 of the spring 18 pass, forward, the pawls 22 and snap onto these pawls, thus blocking the moving assembly (8-6- 13) in the active advanced position allowing the use of the instrument.
It will be noted that in this position, the clip 23 remains blocked against
the body 12 under the combined actions, on the one hand, of the spring 33 and, on the other hand, of the spring 10 which maintains the tabs 21 of the spring 18 applied against the pawls 22 and, due to the position, offset towards the axis XX, of these pawls with respect to the re-entrant angle 24 of bearing against the bar 25 of the body of the instrument, these tabs 21 tending to tilt the clip 23 in the direction
of its application against the body (l-2).
Finally, when it is desired to bring the movable assembly back into the retracted position of FIG. 13, it suffices to exert a lateral pressure Q (Fig. 5)
on the rear end of clip 23 to swing it into position
of Fig. 5 against the action of the spring 33, the rear portion of which is then elastically deformed. In this position, the pawls 22 retract laterally with respect to the tabs 21 of the spring 18, which frees the movable assembly (8-6-13) and the latter, under the action of the spring 10 which relaxes, is returned to the rear position of FIG. 5.
<EMI ID = 11.1>
staple on the fabric of the pocket automatically results in a 'unclipping tilting analogous to that obtained by the thrust Q.
The operation of the instrument is very smooth.
Furthermore, its ink reserve is very large since, despite the snap-fit device, the cartridge 6 has practically the length of the body (1-2) of the instrument, this cartridge extending rearwardly up to to push-button 13, without
that the ratcheting device reduces its length as in known instruments of the same type.
In addition, the assembly is simple and, therefore, the cost price
of the reduced instrument. It has no fragile organ, the two springs
blade 18 and 33, because of their great length, work very far from their elastic limit and have absolutely no risk of breaking.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described which was chosen only by way of example and, in particular, the cartridge 6 could be replaced by a usual reserve of mines.
of any known type or even this cartridge could include, at its anterior end, any other writing device than a ball, for example
a feather.
