<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

It is known to build the frames of motorcycles, bicycle motors, etc. in tubes or pressed sheet metal parts. In these, the protective plates, tool boxes and other parts of the vehicle, which must be executed separately, are connected to the frame. This manufacturing method requires a number of separate parts and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
this makes for high machining costs and deposit.
To avoid these drawbacks, the chassas of the light metal vehicle has already been cast and vehicle accessories have been manufactured with it, such as the fuel tank, the headlight housing and also for bicycle motors. the bearing of the pedal to be pedaled. This gives in particular the advantage of lower deposit and machining costs, however it has been demonstrated that frames cast in this way can be damaged in their structure or even 'demolished by the vibrations of the translation, because they do not have the necessary inherent elasticity.
If, however, the frame of such a vehicle is broken, this part has become practically worthless, that is, scrap metal and must be replaced by another.
With regard to these known frames, the aim of the invention consists in the creation of a frame, which involves both machining and deposition, low costs and which however excludes the danger of breaking.
For this purpose, the invention firstly proposes that the front part * of the chassis, which extends from the steering wheel approximately to the middle of the vehicle, is constructed as a tubular steel beam known per se and that the rear part of the chassis is cast of light metal and is connected to the front part of the chassis in a conforming manner both in form and in power. The rear part of the chas- sis will therefore as a rule be the supporting element of the seat and the cover of the rear wheel. The machining of such a chassie involves reduced costs, since it consists of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
made only of the two named parts.
The front part has such elasticity that damage to the entire frame by the vibrations of the translation is avoided, since the latter are collected by the elastic front part. The manufacture of the rear part of the frame preferably takes place by the pressure casting process.
This causes further savings. It is generally important that, compared to the die cast frame described at the beginning, the mold can be made much smaller, since only about half of the previous part needs to be cast. This does not only mean a corresponding reduction in the machining costs of the mold, but also a simplification of the casting process itself. The manufacture of the front part of the frame is also very simple, since only one tube needs to be prepared with hardly any or very little curvature. The undeformable junction between the front and rear frame part is preferably formed according to the invention, such that the part of the rear frame enclosing the front part of the frame is constructed as a transverse tube.
The model according to which the tube is constructed transversely gives the advantage that for a sufficient mass the forces which arise can be received.
A particularly simple method of manufacturing the joint between the front and rear frame part is provided by the invention in that the rear frame part is joined to the front frame part by casting, preferably by casting. pressure, which means that the machining
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the rear part of the frame is associated with the manufacture of the joint between the two parts of the frame. By a contraction process taking place after casting, an absolutely solid and torsion-free junction is obtained between the two parts of the frame.
Here it is particularly advantageous that the place of the tubular beam, which seizes from the rear frame part, that is to say which is cast during its manufacture, is curved, since this curvature, which during the The casting process is fully encompassed by the material of the rear part of the frame without any gap, shown as an additional measure, to prevent shifting or even twisting of the front part of the frame from the rear part.
There may therefore be different separate connection means such as screws etc. between the front frame part and the rear frame part.
In another embodiment of the invention, connecting rods for the suspension of the engine and / or other parts related to the tubular beam in a fixed manner, such as the frame, are firstly fixed to the front part of the frame. flywheel, the suction pipe or an axis, possibly one manufactures for the suspension and the fixing of these parts or other similar parts of the niches, perforations or others and. then we cast the rear frame part. In this way, it is possible to use said parts, niches, perforations and the like as fasteners, when the front frame part is introduced into the casting plant for the manufacture of the rear frame part.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In this way, the manufacture of the front part as such is also facilitated.
Other advantageous features of the invention are to be extracted from the claims by taking into consideration the exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing and described in the description below.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 shows a side view of the frame with trim,
FIG. 2 shows a section of FIG. l, in which specific features of the saddle are highlighted,
Fig. 3 shows a section along line A - B of FIG. 1.
The frame according to the invention comprises the tubular beam 1 and the light metal frame 2 manufactured as a die-cast part, which frame is undeformably connected to the tubular beam 1 by means of a tube.
The tube is made in one piece with the frame 2, that is to say, it forms a part of it.
Due to the high pressure existing during the casting process and the contraction of the tube 3 as a result of cooling, there is such a narrow junction between the tubular beam 1 and the light metal rear frame 2, a displacement or a twist of the two parts against each other is excluded.
This safety junction is further reinforced by the fact that
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the part of the tubular beam 1 which is encircled by the tube 3 is bent.
Half of an air filter housing 4 is cast to tube 3. In addition, to frame part 2 is cast a toolbox 5, the cover 6 (Fig.3) of which is not shown in fig. 1 so as to be able to better distinguish the construction of the toolbox 5. The arrangement of the toolbox 5 in the middle of the vehicle has the advantage that there the tool brought is subject to the less possible to jolts and that, consequently, the donger of a jingling of the said object is reduced. In addition, the frame 2 presents by the arrangement of the toolbox an enlargement, which increases the stability of the rear part of the frame and thus excludes a risk of breakage.
The tool box 5 can be provided on its inner wall with reinforcing ribs 7, which further increase the stability. To the side of the tool box 5 facing the cover 6 a handle 22 can be attached (Fig. 3), the ends of which at the angles cut are preferably fixed by screwing to the crossing points 23 and 24 of the reinforcing grooves 7, since these reinforcing grooves have a greater stability than the relatively thin side walls of the box. tools 5.
A further advantage is to hold the cover 6 of the toolbox 5 by means of a single screw, preferably a knurled screw 25. It is useful to keep the screw nut 26 sufficiently large in its length by means of a gripping end 22, so that at the same time it serves as a nut for
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the knurled screw 25.
To make possible the rapid fitting of the cover of the tool container 25, the latter can be provided on the sides of its inner wall with bolts or guide rods 27, which are located at the side 28 of the tool box. 5.
Furthermore, the part open to the driver's seat of the rear frame 2 can be constructed as a reservoir 2a, for example to receive an air pump 8 or other accessories and can be covered with a cover 9.
According to Fig. 2 the cover 9 has an opening 10 for passing the air pump.
Moreover, the alternative of bringing the air pump to a horizontal position under the seat, so that it can be removed in the direction of travel, is already known. Such an arrangement required a relatively large gap between the seat 11 and the fuel tank 12, so that when the pump is removed it does not stop at the fuel tank and damages the latter. By the arrangement according to FIG. l damage of this kind is excluded.
The cover 9 is fixed by means of screws 9a to the upper part of the frame 2 and is formed as a support for the saddle 11, as shown in particular in FIG. 2. to allow vertical sliding of the saddle 11, a rod 13 is cast to the cover 8, which is also provided with cast reinforcements 14.
Oven prevent pump rattling. air 8 in the tank, it rests on one side on the bottom of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
tank and against a wall 15, as well as against a cover 16 which is arranged on its side in a pivoting manner on the cover 9 around a pin 17. Instead of the pivoting cover 16 it is possible to use also a sliding cover. The rod 13 has a hole in which is located, in relation to the duct of the saddle 18, a threaded bolt 19, which maintains the saddle 11 in a determined position.
The die-cast frame 2 is furthermore provided at its part serving for the laying of the coating of the rear wheel with cast eyes 20 for fixing the spring strut or the like. In addition, eyes 20 are cast to its upper side for the attachment of a luggage rack.
According to n 29, angles are provided which can be welded and which serve to hold the motor not shown in the drawing. No.30 determines an axle welded to the tubular beam 1 in order to hold the fork of the rear wheel. In this way, both the front wheel fork and the rear wheel fork attached to the flywheel 31 are simply attached to the resilient tubular beam 1 so that the pressure sensitive frame part 2 snaps into place. is relieved of the vibrations that occur.
To the flywheel 31 and to the tubular beam 1, it is possible to weld a hollow consolidation rod 32. This is provided with a suction pipe 33, through which fresh air is brought in in the direction of the arrow. to the air filter housing 4. In this way, considerably dust-free, vortex-free and low-noise air can be sucked in, especially when supplying a reserve.
