<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
REVENDICATIONS

In the main patent, the Applicant has revealed the design of a filtering device constituted by the juxtaposition of two added walls very slightly spaced so as to create, between them, in the passage of water, a capillary effect which is judiciously exploited both to ensure maximum extraction of the infusion material and to activate the flow of the infusion itself.
In the main patent, the juxtaposed perforated walls are in the form of two mutually nested basins, slightly interdistant, the perforations of the basin directly in contact with the coffee being of smaller dimensions than those provided in the second wall.
The object of the present improvements is first of all to extend the scope of the main patent by basing themselves on the observation made by the Applicant that said perforated walls very close to one of the other can, with the same results , have very different shapes.
The present improvements therefore extend to any generally arbitrary shape presented by two adjacent perforated walls superimposed, so that one is in contact with or directed towards the material to be infused, said openings and the distance separating them from the wall. openwork being exclusively determined by the need to create a capillary effect between said walls.
Another object of the present improvements relates to a very particular embodiment, the originality of which is found in an extreme simplicity favoring rapid industrial manufacture and relatively very economical, without any prejudice to the quality, respectively the speed in the preparation. of the drink.
Substantially, the coffee filter device in accordance with the present improvements consists of the combination of a container with a perforated bottom and a second perforated bottom made integral with the first and kept at a suitable distance so that the capillary effect touted in the main patent is produced between the two funds thus superimposed.
According to yet another characteristic of the invention, said added bottom is removable so that the manufacture is easy, the assembly is convenient and quick and, to a certain extent, the adjustment of the effect of capillary action between said perforated bottom in proportion to the screwing, respectively unscrewing, of the added base relative to the fixed base.
Yet another characteristic of the invention is found in the fact that the perforated fixed bottom of the container has a central opening extended towards the interior of the container by a hub, itself extended by a rod disposed axially. inside and over a certain part of the height of the container; this hub is internally threaded; the second perforated base has an externally threaded axle and this axle s screws into the aforesaid hub integral with the fixed perforated base.
On the rod extending said hub, can be fitted very gently a tubular element inferiorly furnished with a perforated disc; the latter carries, facing downwards, fingers the length of which is such that they approach the fixed perforated bottom and the upper part of said tubular element is furnished with a button made of a material of low thermal permeability. On the upper part of said tubular element just below said insulating button, is also fixed a false perforated cover which comes to rest on the upper edge of the receptacle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present improvements also relate to different characteristics by which, both the manufacture and the use, are facilitated, respectively simplified.
All these characteristics will emerge more clearly from the detailed description below of preferred embodiments but not nevertheless having any limiting nature: FIG. 5 represents, in radial section, an improved coffee filter. Figure 6 is a plan view of Figure 5; Figure 7 is an exterior front view of the filter of Figures 5 and 6; FIG. 8 is an exterior front view, with partial section, by a variant of the device of FIGS. 5 to 7.
In the execution of Figures 5 to 7, we find the container 1 having, below, the three pans 2-3-4 and the cylindrical tip 7. In this, to the right of the pan, 4, is subject to the fixed perforated base 42. The central hole 54 of this perforated base is extended. upwards by a hub 44, itself extended by a rod 45. A second perforated base 46, removable, carries, centrally, an externally threaded pin 47 capable of screwing into the hub 44. Peripherally, said removable base has a very slight rim 48 such that, coming into contact with the lower edge of the pan 4, it determines the space necessary to obtain the capillary effect as defined in the main patent.
Preferably, the perforations or openings presented by the removable bottom 46 are slightly larger than the perforations presented by the fixed base 42. On the rod 45 is slid with gentle friction a tubular element 49 on the lower end of which is. fixed a perforated disc 50, the peripheral edge of which is slightly straightened so as to form a very flat cup. On this disc are fixed fingers 29, in this case three, the length of which is slightly less than the distance separating said perforated disc 50 from the fixed base 42. Towards the other end of one tubular element 49 is fixed a false cover 51, the central part of which has a depression 52, the bottom 53 of which is perforated.
Finally, on the projecting upper end of said tubular element 9, a button 54 is fixed in a material with a low thermal coefficient.
It is therefore noted that said element 49, the perforated disc 50 and the false cover 51 form one. small mobile crew that can be easily placed and removed. On the other hand, it offers the advantage of being able to be moved alternately by rotation around the rod 45 under the force produced directly on the insulating button 54, which has the consequence of stressing the infusion mass by the fingers 29 , which is favorable to the activation and effectiveness of the infusion.
To facilitate the gripping of the receptacle ¯1, the latter is surrounded by a belt 55 also of a thermally insulating material. The use of this improved filter is elementary since it suffices to temporarily remove the small mobile unit from the receptacle, to introduce into it the desired quantity of ground coffee and then to replace said mobile unit so that, simultaneously , the perforated disc 50 comes to rest on part 2 and that the false cover 21 comes to rest on the upper edge of the container 1. The filter is then placed on any suitable container and the quantity of water is poured into the container 1.
It is then observed that the flow, due to the capillary effect which develops between the two perforated bases 42 and 46, is maintained in a continuous manner, while this flow is perfectly regularized in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
sort of ensuring a maximum extract of the principles of coffee, the result being a certain economy on the coffee material, which we can understand between 30 and 50% in quantity. This surprising result stems from the fact that, in a traditional filter, the flow, as is known, is always either too fast or too slow, the known devices not comprising any means for regulating the flow of the liquid.
As a result, if the flow is too rapid, recourse is had to squeezing the mass of ground coffee in the filter, resulting in obstruction of the perforated bottom and obtaining a poor quality infusion. On the contrary, when the orifices are blocked and the flow is too slow, it is necessary to indulge all kinds of expedients, such as releasing the pressure on the mass of ground coffee, repeated shocks on the container, application hands to the effect of producing a certain overpressure in the receptacle, agitation of the mass of ground coffee, etc. .. all conditions which make the preparation of coffee inconvenient and which lead to obtaining beverages of poor quality.
We can obviously achieve the characteristic combination revealed by the present baue of infinitely variable shapes. Likewise, the receptacle may be externally in any characteristic form. It is by way of example that two preferred shapes are shown in exterior view in Figures 7 and 8.
It also goes without saying that the filter, as has been described, may optionally be packaged without the agitating fingers 29 or even with any other interior arrangement, the dominant characteristic sufficient to come within the scope of the present invention being determined by the cooperation of the two perforated bottoms 42-46 slightly spaced with respect to one another.
The density of the extract could also be significantly increased by interposing, between the two perforated bases 42-46, a disc of filter paper of known quality. This characteristic arrangement allows, for example, using a very reduced quantity. of coffee, to produce extracts of very high concentration commonly called mocha. In this way, the filter thus improved can be used both for the preparation of current coffee and for the preparation of digestive coffee .. or after-dinner and for the preparation of coffee extracts intended for culinary preparations.
Finally, the improved filter as has been described can be produced in any format.
