<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The current technique of packaging liquids, pasty and powdery products tends to replace heavy and fragile glass bottles and tin cans with plastic packaging of various types.
Bottles of molded plastic material are expensive. Bags made of plastic sheets, which are cheaper, also have many drawbacks and in particular they cannot be used rationally on existing bottling machines; they have an irregular shape, not suitable for easy storage and packing for shipment; they have a rigidity, except important thickness which., increases the cost price, that because of the liquid mass filling a closed space and as soon as they are opened it is necessary to use their contents immediately .
Attempts have been made to remedy some of these drawbacks by producing sachets which, when filled, deform, like the previously known gusseted paper bags, by taking a substantially parallelepipedal shape and we have
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
it has already been proposed to place said sachets once filled in packaging, in particular cardboard boxes that substantially adapt to this shape. However, since plastic bags are completely independent of the rigid packaging, they can only be filled on special machines and they only retain their shape because of the internal pressure of the liquid. They cannot be a practical substitute for rigid bottle-type packaging.
The production of a complex packaging comprising a flexible plastic bag and a semi-rigid outer envelope, in particular a cardboard box in which these two elements are joined, presents difficulties because the attachment must be such that the bag deforms free. ment inside the outer casing. The previously proposed solutions for solving this problem make use of bag shapes and external envelopes which are complex and difficult to produce in practice.
The packaging according to the invention consisting of a semi-rigid outer box with closing flaps and a flexible bag secured at least at its upper part, with the semi-rigid outer box is characterized in that the flap of the box on which is fixed, the bag comprises an extension beyond the axis of the box, an extension separated from the flap by a fold forming an articulation hinge so as to allow this extension to occupy at least one position perpendicular to the flap, the sachet being attached to. the said extension.
The flexible bag is preferably also secured by its bottom to the bottom of the rigid box. The plastic bag is, according to a preferred embodiment, applied flat on a side face and the corresponding flaps of the box flattened, the lower edge of the bag being welded to the bottom flap of the box and. upper part, / over at least part of its width and at a certain distance from the open end of said bag, on the folding extension with which the flap intended to close part of the top of the box is provided. The lower flap is preferably also provided with a hinged extension to which the lower edge of the bag is welded.
The plastic bag may be a so-called gusseted bag, the width of which is identical to the width of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
lateral face on which it is applied, the development of the bellows being equal to, the thickness of the box. The bag can also be a flat bag, with or without side seals, and in this case its side edges are preferably fixed along the center line of the adjacent side faces of the box.
When using a gusseted bag, the bag can be secured to the extension of the flap by two lateral welds applied to the right of the gussets so as to leave a central part) forming a filler neck, but preferably the flexible seal. of the bellows type is secured with the flap of the box on a part only,? ent of 'its width so as to leave the second bellows free. This latter embodiment has advantages in particular as regards the ease of securing the bag with the flap of the box and, in addition, it allows a large filling section to be opened.
On the other hand, during filling, the free bellows deforms like a flat bag and creates a triangular fold applied to the side flap of the box which makes it possible to constitute a pouring spout.
According to a variant of this embodiment, the connection between the upper part of the flexible bag and the flap of the box is carried out in a removable manner, for example by engagement of tabs provided on a reinforcement applied to the right of the weld of the bellows in cutouts provided in the flaps.
Following un'perfectionnement applied to the packaging using a flat sachet, the surfaces of said sachet intended to form the bottom are secured, for example by gluing, with a flap, having the surface of said bottom, folded in a V around the edge -lower of the bag and extended by a tab.

In the packaging of Figures I to 4, 1a, 1b are the large sides of the cardboard box and 2 the small sides.
The face 1a is extended at its two ends by flaps 3 iL la. upper part, 4 to the lower part, the length of which is equal to half the width of the side faces 2, These flaps 3 and 4 terminated by folded edges 5 and 6, the role of which will be explained below. The second mode of -real one represented prx Figures 5 to 7 is constituted by a cardboard box of design similar to that of Figures I to. 4. It has two large side faces 2Ia, 2Ib joined by two small faces 22. the face 21a is extended by two flaps 23 and 24
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the length of which is equal to the beie of the width of the side faces themselves extended by folded edges 25 and 26. In the middle of the folded edge 25 and of its flap 23 is provided a cutout 27 similar to the cutout 7 of the mode of realization previously decree.
'Face 2Ib is extended by two flaps 28 whose length is equal to the width of the faces 22 and the faces 22 by two flaps 29 whose length is equal to the half-width of the faces 21. The upper flap 29a of one of the faces 22 has a triangular path 30 formed by fracture initiators such as lines of -perforations, the purpose of which will be explained below:
The plastic bag 31 is a flat bag formed by a length of sheath closed at one of its ends or by two sheets joined on three of their sides by a weld 32.
The bag is fixed to the cardboard box, on the one hand, by welding at 33 on the folded edge 26, on the other hand, by welding at 34 on the two parts of the folded edge 27, this welding being extended laterally at 35 until 'at the edges of the bag in order to close the upper end of said bag with the exception of the central part, to the right of the cutout 27, which is intended to serve as a filling neck, and finally along the weld lines 36 on its side edges along the center line of the side faces 22.
The packaging is folded in the usual way, the tab 37 being glued to the free edge of the face 21b.
The bottom of the box is closed by folding down the flap 24 and folding back the edge 26 to 180, then. By folding and gluing the flaps 28 and 29. The filling is then carried out as described with reference to Figures 1 to 4, the flap 23 coming to be placed automatically horizontally with the edge 25 vertical. The upper part of the bag is then closed by a weld which can be e ffec killed between the welds 34 to close the neck or above the edge of the cardboard forming the parts 25.
To close the packaging, (fig.6) on part 23, the folded edge 25 and the upper part 38 of the sachet are folded. The flap 28 is folded and possibly glued, the plastic bag only being visible through two ears projecting laterally and applied to the flaps 29.
The closing is then completed by folding down and immobilizing,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
-by gluing or by a glued tape 39, said flaps 29.
Turn open the packaging (fig.7) the flap 29a is torn according to the breaking line 30. One of the ears then protrudes into the opening thus produced and it suffices to cut its end to make a pouring neck 40 .
The packaging can be closed with a sufficient seal by folding the tab 41 which determines a fold at the base of the spout.
The cardboard box tie fig. 8 is a box 42 of the usual type. It has two main flaps 43 and two side flaps 44. The main flaps 43 of the upper part are cut at 45 to facilitate the filling operation, and at least one of the main flaps is' extended by a tab 46 articulated by a primer of -folding '.
The film bag, for example polyethylene 47 is of the gusseted type. One of the bellows located in line with the extension 4.5 is welded to the said extension, the other bellows remaining free.
For filling, the free gusset is laterally extended and, preferably, air is blown into the plastic bag in order to ensure pre-forming of the bag inside the ca.rton box. the filler neck (fig. 9) and it is filled, then closed with a weld 48 (fig.IO). The upper part 49 of the bag above the level of the folded flaps is vertical, but the flap which was pulled laterally during filling forms a triangular lug 50 which is applied to a triangular surface 51 provided in one of the flaps. 44 and which is surrounded by the beginning of a rupture.
The upper part 50 is folded over the upper surface formed by the flaps 43 then the flaps 44 are folded down and they are joined together so as to close the box. To open the said box, part 51 is torn off and the triangular polyethylene surface 50 protrudes which allows it to be cut at a certain distance from the point so as to produce a pouring spout.
In the embodiment of Figure 12, the polyethylene bag 47 is secured with two cardboard reinforcing strips 52 which have tabs 53, these tabs 53 can be engaged in the two cutouts 54 provided on the extensions 46 of the flaps 43
