<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to a folding seat comprising front and rear legs which intersect, so that the rear legs come in front of the seat while the front legs come substantially in the extension of the backrest, seat characterized in that the backrest is mounted hinged to the upper part of the front legs, which facilitates folding and brings the seat to a smaller footprint.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to one embodiment of the invention, the seat comprises at the front an articulated extension which can occupy two positions of use: a position in the extension of the seat in order to increase the rest surface.
- Another position folded more or less vertically to form an upright connecting the front of the seat to the front feet, which provides a rigid seat.
According to another embodiment, the backrest is connected to the rear legs by articulated rods on the one hand, to the lower part of the backrest and, on the other hand, behind the rear foot.
According to another embodiment, the front and rear legs are connected to each other by two side links, articulated to said legs in their middle part.
Finally, according to yet another embodiment, the folding seat according to the invention is characterized by a connecting piece making it possible to connect the backrest to the base, rigidly and in two fixed positions: the first providing a chair making it possible to sit. put at the table and the second providing the form "bed". To each of these two positions corresponds a notch cut in said connecting piece and which engages on a corresponding stud provided at the bottom of the backrest or on a link.
The invention also extends to the characteristics described below and to their various possible combinations.
Seats according to the invention are shown, by way of non-limiting example, in the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the folding seat in the unfolded position.
Fig. 2 is another perspective view of the seat.
Fig.3 is an elevational view of the seat.

Fig.9 is a partial front view of the seat.
Fig. 10 is a partial view of the upper part of the backrest provided with a rod 24 for fixing the fabric.
Fig.ll is a front view of the curved cross member 22.
A seat according to the invention consists of two legs 1 and 2 and a backrest 3 connected by rods 4 to the leg 1 (see fies.1 and 2).
A lateral link 5 connects the legs 1 and 2 so as to allow the oscillation of the whole of the seat and to give it when it is unfolded a desired stability and spacing
Armrests 6 connect the backrest 3 to an extension 7 which is fixed at the head of the foot 1.
The joints are made by pivot axes.
The extension 7 can take two positions: - a horizontal position (see in particular fig.l) in which it serves as a footrest.
- a vertical position in which it is then placed substantially perpendicular to the seat itself (see fig. 2).
In this case, the end 71 of the extension engages inside the loop formed by the front foot 2 and immobilizes the seat so as to prevent it from sinking deeper when a person sits down. on the seat.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The seat proper, that is to say the part on which the individual sits, consists of a fabric 8 reinforced by a system of laces in the region where it forms a backrest, laces which s 'roll up on the backrest uprights 3 (see fig. 2).
The canvas thus has good flexibility and good hold. The carefully chosen curves of the various elements give the whole a maximum of comfort and elegance. The seat has, on the other hand, in the folded state, a small footprint. Finally, the curves of the top of the backrest 3 and of the foot 1 towards the front give the seat good flexibility and prevent any discomfort for the head and legs of a user lying down and in a resting position.
The stability, oscillation and separation of the two feet can also be obtained by replacing the two links 5 by a single link 51 fixed at each of its ends on cross members 9 and 10 connecting the two front legs 2 and the two legs. posterior 1 (see figs. 4 and 5). It is also possible to replace the two rods 5 by an adjustable strap 11 connecting the base of the front and rear legs as illustrated in fig.l.
The seat shown in figs.2 and 3 is generally similar to that of fig.l with the difference that the side links 5 are arranged very close to the crossing of the feet and that the rear articulation of these links is distinct the articulation of the connecting rods 4 connecting the rear leg to the backrest.
Finally, the two front feet 2 and rear feet 1 can be articulated directly to one another at their point of intersection by an axis 11 (see fig. 6).
In the embodiments shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 6, a stop 12 is provided on each upright of the foot 2, so as to serve as a stop stop to prevent the seat from completely flattening. In the case of Figures 4 and 5, it is the cross members 9 and 10 which fulfill this function.
In the end, folding seats are produced having, in the folded position, a reduced size.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
On the other hand, the seats are oscillating and allow different rest positions to the individual who uses them.
By the arrangement of the extension, the seat can also be immobilized in the open position and transform into a simple folding chair.
The seat is folded from the front and by simple action on the backrest after retracting the extension.
Unfolding is absolutely automatic even if the extension is put in place when the backrest is lifted backwards.
(transatlantic position). @
The seat shown in Figs.7 to 11 comprises front 102 and rear 101 legs crossed between them and a backrest 103 articulated on the upper part of the front leg 102. The lower part of this backrest 103 is connected to the rear of the legs. rear feet 101 by articulated rods 104. These rods 104 are connected by their midpoints and perpendicularly to them by a straight connecting piece, such as a tube, 'which gives the seat the necessary spacing and more stability.
A lateral link 105 connects the feet 101 and 102, so as to allow the oscillation of the whole of the seat and to give it, when it is unfolded, a stability and a desired distance * The links 105 are connected by their middle by virtue of a straight connecting piece such as a tube, which prevents the seat from tilting too suddenly forward when the user leaves the seat.
The seat comprises in front, an articulated extension 107 which can occupy two positions of use.
According to the present invention, a fastening part 14 in the form of a connecting rod is articulated at 13 on the foot 101.
It has notches 15 corresponding, for one, to the "bed" position and, for the other, to the "chair to sit down to table" position. One or the other of these notches fits according to the desire of the user in a stud 17 placed as an extension of the articulation of the backrest 103 and of the rod 104. These notches 15 have a double effect. stop, which always ensures the same position of the parts 104 and 14 with respect to each other.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The rod 104 is provided with a stopper formed by a stud 19. The foot 102 abuts against this stud, and cannot go any further, which prevents the total tilting of the backrest beyond a usable position, and also gives the seat the relaxed position, ie the head rests lower than the feet. This relaxed position is also recommended by doctors.
The foot 101 is cut so that it no longer includes the curved front extension serving as a connection between the two side parts 1011 and 1012 of the foot 101 (see fig. 9).
To give the seat stability and spacing. necessary, a curved connecting piece 22 connects the two side parts 1011 and 1012 of the foot 101 at the front, this connecting piece is flattened at both ends to allow the passage of two fixing bolts 23; this connecting piece also makes it possible to give a certain flexibility to the seat, so that the user no longer feels the crossbar under the thighs.
Two removable steel rods 24 and 24 'are fixed, one, 24 on the transverse part of the backrest 103 under the tube and the other, 24' on the new curved connecting piece 22. These rods allow a easy assembly and disassembly of the canvas.
The two ends 25 are curved and simply engaged on each side in holes made on the backrest and the connecting piece 22; by the pressure of the body the canvas is stretched and holds the rods in place. These rods 24 and 24 'slide in hems 26 sewn on each of the extreme edges of the fabric.
When the chair is installed in the "bed" position to ensure greater rigidity and better resistance to the system, the ends of the extension 107 and of the foot 102 are connected by a rod 21, or a mobile strap made of cotton, superpolyamide (nylon ) or any other matter.
In this "bed" pocition, the canvas 108 is connected with the arms 106 by two straps 18, which provide better support for
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
said canvas, and gives it a more horizontal position. In this position, the user of the seat is lying so to speak completely flat horizontally.
The connecting rod 104 comprises a second stud 20 in which one of these notches of the connecting piece 14 engages when the seat is folded.
When the seat is in the "chair for table" position, the extension 107 is folded against 12 or against 105, if 12 does not exist.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described and represented above, from which other variants can be provided, without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
