The invention consists of a chemical process for the protection of ferrous materials against oxidation, mainly based on ammonium molibdate and chromium oxide.

The parts to be browned must be immersed in a bath brought to a temperature of 120 to 150 degrees. The immersion lasts from 3 to 15 minutes, variation due to the nature of the metal, and to the desired shade, this final shade ranging from brown to black and can be bergine, burgundy ect ... this has no influence on the main result which is the protection of the metal.

On leaving this bath, the parts are simply rinsed with pure water and immersed for a few minutes in an oily fixative.

Summary: Simple chemical treatment in a bath based on ammonium molybdate and chromium oxide giving effective protection without forming the subjected parts, no deposit remains, no crystalline trace, no thickness.
