Abstract

13,414. Pasel, C. Oct. 17, 1912, [Convention date]. Annealing; hardening.-Hard steel alloys containing chromium and nickel, with or without tungsten and molybdenum, are rendered soft and workable by heating to 500-780‹ C. and then cooling slowly or rapidly; this treatment may be preceded by heating to 800-1000‹ C. and cooling, to impart toughness to the metal. The alloys may be hardened again by heating to 800-900‹ C. and cooling rapidly or slowly. Other alloys may be heated to 1100-1200‹ C. and rapidly cooled.
