<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to a device for end-to-end connection of tubes, and its object is to make it easy to obtain a tight seal.
The device according to the invention comprises, between the tubes, a continuous plastic joint, the cross section of which is a trapezoid having its large base towards the outside of the tubes. In addition, the ends of these are bevelled at an angle such that they come to rest on the lateral faces of the seal. In addition, the outer face of the latter is in contact with a ring, split from one end to the other, projecting from each side of the seal and coming into contact by spouts with the two tubes to be connected. Finally, this ring has on the outside, on either side of the place reserved for the seal, conical surfaces against which bear corresponding conical surfaces formed inside parts screwed onto a sleeve situated between them.
When these latter parts are screwed onto the sleeve, these parts are introduced like a wedge between this sleeve and the split ring and, consequently, they force this ring to tighten. The interior radius of the latter therefore decreases. This ring acts on the seal which, in the form of a wedge, provides the desired seal, the seal being compressed between the split ring and the ends of the tubes which cannot move away from each other by the seal. makes beaks with this ring mubic and which cling to the back wall.
These nozzles also contribute by the thin grip to prevent dislocation of the tubes from the assembly in service under the effect of the pressure of the fluid conveyed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
By the aforesaid screwing, therefore, an intimate contact is automatically made between the ends of the tubes and the joint placed between them.
In an advantageous embodiment, the angle between the two inclined faces of the aforesaid trapezoid is about 60.
Preferably, the angle between the bevelled faces facing the two tubes to be connected is slightly greater than that between the side faces of the joint between them.
This connection device is particularly advantageous when the tubes to be connected are formed, at least inwardly, by synthetic resin as is the case, for example, with steel tubes lined internally with synthetic resin. . We know that this is unassailable by most fluids that can be circulated in tubes. The wedging of the synthetic resin gasket between the inner layers of the synthetic resin tubes protects the metal parts of the connection device from circulating fluid which could attack it.
The drawings appended to this memory represent schematically, and by way of example only, two embodiments of the connecting device according to the invention.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through two tubes placed in the continuation of one another and connected by a device according to the invention
FIG. 2 represents, in a similar manner, another embodiment of this device.
In these two figures, the same notations of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
reference designate identical elements.
In Figure 1, there is shown two tubes 2 and 3 which each have inside a synthetic resin layer designated respectively by 2 and 3a surrounded by a metal layer designated respectively by 2b and
3b.
Between the ends of the tubes is disposed a continuous annular seal made of plastic material such as synthetic resin 4, the cross section of which has the shape of a trapezoid. The large base 5 of it is towards the outside. laughter of the tubes. The ends of these are cut in a beam as shown in 6 and 7. The angle of each bevel is such that the end of the tube comes to rest on the faces; side faces of the seal 4. Preferably, the angle between the bevelled faces is slightly greater than that between the side faces of the seal, for example 1 to 2 degrees.
The outer face of the seal 4 is in contact with a ring split from one end to the other and which extends on either side of this seal. The projecting parts 8a and 8b of this ring come into contact with the tubes 2 and 3 via nozzles 9 and 10. This ring has on the outside, on either side of the seal 4, conical surfaces 8c and 8d. against which bear corresponding conical surfaces formed inside parts 11 and 12 screwed onto a sleeve 13 located between them. In the case of Figure 1, these parts 11 and 12 are screwed inside this sleeve.
The bringing together of the parts 11 and 12 by screwing them into the sleeve 13 forces the split ring 8 to approach the axis of the tubes and to compress the trapezoidal seal 4 between the bevelled ends of these. These
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
tubes are at the same time gripped by the nozzles 9 and 10 and therefore cannot move away when the joint
4 gets stuck between them. The contact made between this seal and the ends of the tubes is therefore very intimate.
The angle between the side faces of the trapezoidal seal does not necessarily have to have a definite value. It is understood that a very small angle between these faces reduces the intensity of the clamping between the seal and the ends of the tubes. Experience has shown that excellent results are obtained when the angle between the side faces of the seal is close to 60.
By the fact that the synthetic resin is unassailable by most of the liquids which corrode steel and that the seal obtained between the joint and the ends of the tubes is perfect, the device according to the invention makes it possible to put the external parts metal tubes to be assembled and the lower parts of the connection device protected from any corrosion from circulating liquids. The use of this device for connecting two tubes, the interior of which is made of synthetic resin and the exterior of which is made of metal, is particularly advantageous.
As can be seen in Figure 1, the seal 4 is partially housed in the ring 8. This partial housing holds the seal in place with respect to the ring during the assembly of the connecting device and, therefore, it is safe. the location occupied by the seal in the assembled assembly ...
In Figure 2, there is shown another embodiment of the connecting device according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
tion which. shows that the parts 11 and '12 to be brought together by screwing need not necessarily be -screwed inside the sleeve 13. In this fever, the parts 11 and
12 are in fact screwed to the outside of this sleeve so that they have a rib 11a. or 12a whose face turned towards the axis of the tubes is conical and bears on one of the conical parts of the ring 8.
It is easily understood that the crowns 11a and
12a need not necessarily be in contact with the inside of the sleeve 13 and they could be replaced by rings pushed towards each other by the parts screwed onto the sleeve 13.
