<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to cut pile fabrics and includes a process for treating pile fabric which can be made by any known method, for example by weaving or knitting, to imitate natural fur.
Many attempts have been made to obtain pile fabrics which have the appearance of fur, by normal weaving procedures, but these imitation fur fabrics are easily distinguished from real furs.
The present invention aims to provide a

furs having more than one pile length, that is, jar and down, and also providing the desired contrast in texture, tone and flexibility between jar and down.
According to the present invention, a pile fabric imitating fur and comprising a jar comprises fibers or yarns woven into a ground, and some of the fibers, following forced shrinkage, are shortened so as to allow fibers forming a jar.
According to the process of the invention, two or more fibers and / or filaments having different characteristics are brought together to form a compound yarn, of which at least one of the fibers and / or one of the filaments which compose it possess properties which are suitable for shrinkage treatment, after having been woven or knitted by a suitable method into a fabric so as to form a pile of fibers of different lengths.
The manufacture of the pile fabric of the present invention can be accomplished by any of the following methods: (a) Methods of double fabric weaving the pile fabric.
(b) A method of weaving single-fabric pile fabric using either warp or weft pile.
(c) Pile-forming knitting methods with jersey knitting machines (eg, Wildman type).
(d) A method of weaving flat fabrics making it possible to obtain an upright pile by carding or brushing a part of the fiber included in one or more of the yarns forming the woven fabric.
The shrinkage treatment may involve a physical or a chemical process, both of which are combined. The treatment of the pile fabric to shrink one or more of the pile components may therefore be carried out by physical or chemical methods, or both combined, and can be done by simulating use or

cumulative dry heat or hot air, steam and / or hot aqueous liquids or other liquids.
The initial choice of materials, of the manufacture of the compound yarn and / or of the type of weaving is made so as to ensure that the distribution in the finished article, of the long and short fibers or filaments, is regular over the entire extent of the fabric. tissue.
The invention applies to fabrics made of natural fibers, of animal or plant origin, as well as to fabrics made of treated fibers or artificial filaments. ' In. When choosing the groups of fibers or filaments, care must be taken in choosing the color, texture, suppleness, luster and lengths of the pile of the fur which the imitation fur fabric is to represent.
Important points are the choice of fibers or filaments, natural colors, dyed or to. the spun state, so as to facilitate obtaining, tone-on-tone effects or contrasting tints, or of undyed natural or artificial fibers or filaments which can be piece-dyed so as to obtain the desired colors, also to impart to the hair, by forced shrinkage, the differences in length or height which may be necessary to obtain a distinction between the jar and the down.
The synthetic fibers or filaments can be chosen from the following groups:
Polyamides, for example Nylon.
Polyesters, for example Terylene.
Vinyl resins including polymers and co-. vinyl chloride polymers or acrylonitriles such as polyvinyl chloride (for example Fibravyl and Thermavyl) or vinylidin polymers (for example Saran), or poly-acrylonitrile fibers (for example Orlon) or copolymers vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile (eg Dynel).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Flat filaments or others of cellulose derivatives.
For example, having chosen as the down, a fiber of a vinyl chloride polymer, the choice of a fiber or of a film to be used as a jrre is governed by the degree of coloring, the flexibility ( dimension, or diameter) and the luster that the finished article should have.

The shrinkage can be carried out in this case during the dyeing of the fabric in an aqueous liquor, and by keeping the temperature between 60 centigrade and the boiling, the dyeing and the shrinking are carried out simultaneously.
Shrinkage can be achieved by steam brushing the fabric from the pile side for 45 to 90 minutes at atmospheric pressure, or by a combination of the two methods, i.e. steam brushing the fabric before spray dyeing. temperature controlled.
It has been found that the use of a monofilament has the advantage of giving a flexible jar like that of the furs to lend ch @ i @ Example 2. - Knitted plush-fur.

In this example, the shrinkage is obtained by a chemical process which cannot be applied in Examples 1 to 6.
@
In this case, the fabric is treated in an aqueous solution of 60 Twaddle caustic soda for 20 minutes, washed with water to remove excess caustic soda and finally neutralized before dyeing. This treatment is used especially when cotton is used as down, together with a jar which resists chemical treatment.
The preferred shrinkable fibers in the present invention are those derived from vinyl chloride co-polymer, these fibers generally shrinking to 50% of their original length when processed at temperatures between 60 and 100 centigrade as described in 'example
In the present invention, preference has been given to nylon denier monofilament as a jar, which is dimensionally stable at the temperatures cited above, or when processed according to the method described in Example 1, easily weaves. with the bottom and looks like premium furs.
CLAIMS
1.- A method of manufacturing a pile fabric imitating fur and having a jar, characterized in that one chooses fibers or threads, some of which are suitable for undergoing a reduction in length by treatment, for example by shrinking, one chooses The fibers or yarns are formed by weaving or knitting in a background and the pile fabric is then treated so as to obtain a pile with fibers of different lengths or heights.
