<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Machine for cutting and perforating slate sheets for roofs."
The object of the invention is an apparatus for cutting slate sheets for roofs, which at the same time allows perforation of said sheets.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The provision of nail holes in slate roofing slabs was previously done only when they were placed on the roof; the necessary nail holes were then drilled using a special sharp hammer or a special perforator, with the help of which the roofer prepared the tiles. ques for their installation.
An apparatus is known for cutting slabs of tardoise which makes it possible to perform simultaneous perforation of the plate but this, only in the case of rectilinear cutting. This apparatus has a drawback, however, in that it does not allow simultaneous perforation with cutting when it comes to cutting rounded-contour plates, which however are again in great use.
There is another device, portable, for cutting and punching by hand which operates a straight knife connected by a hand lever to a toothed segment and to a rack, but this device is also only suitable for recutting. tilinear and not for cutting rounded plates. In addition, at another point of this device and also controlled by the rack, there is provided a punch for drilling the nail holes but this punch is arranged so that the perforation of the plates can only be done during 'a separate operation from the cutting operation. This apparatus does not mark a step forward over those previously known, since the worker still has to manipulate the plates many times before they are ready for installation.
The apparatus which is the object of the invention avoids the aforementioned drawbacks and it allows rational manufacture, finishing and placement of slate boards of any shape, since, for cutting and perforation, even of rounded plates, there is provided a punch mounted on a cutting lever, near the cutting area and due to the fact that the cutting of the longer being for a short time interrupted, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the cutting lever, with the knife provided with a longitudinally curved edge, is lowered more deeply at the point where the perforation is to be made and then, the latter having taken place, is raised again, to continue cutting until the next perforation or until the following straight cut.
The punch, perpendicular to the surface of the plate, is adjustable in height by its support and it cooperates with the punching die of the frame of the shear, a die which presents an inclination and is hollow ground, so that the plate to be shaped receives, in addition to the bevelled edges ;, the necessary nail holes-with embedding, in which the head of the nail will be placed so as not to protrude. In order to exclude the perforating device from operation, a two-armed lever is provided, arti @@@ é at the lever of the shear, near its operating handle, which is lifted with a finger. of the hand which actuates the apparatus to place a stop between the lever of the shears and the frame of the apparatus.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, an embodiment of the isaille for slate sheets for roofs, with device 'to be perforated.
Figure 1 is a side view of the apparatus; FIG. 2 shows the upper part of the apparatus with the perforating device, having been omitted, and FIG. 3 represents a section taken along the line A-B of FIG. 1, seen in the direction of the arrow.
The perforating device according to the invention essentially comprises a punch 1, advantageously mounted in a support comparable to a threaded bolt 2, guided in a bearing 3 and. allowing height adjustment. The lever 5 of the shears, with the knife curved in the length direction, carries the threaded bolt 2, which is chosen according to the dimensions of the nail holes 6 to be provided in the slate plate 6 '. Matrix 8 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
provided on the body 9 of the shears, with equal-curved knife
10. Bind, a bearing face / preferably being recessed ground and provided at the same time with an inclination serving for the scissor cut of the edge 7.
The nail hole 6, drilled in the slate plate 6 'by the lever movement 5 of the shears and the punch 1, which acts perpendicular to the surface of the plate, has, downwards, an enlargement in which the head of the nail will be placed when the plate, having been turned over, is nailed, so that there can be no protruding, interfering part, that the following plate, which will partially cover the first, will therefore be applied without interstice on it and that neither the pressure of the wind nor the force of the rain will be able to determine the rising of the plates.
So that we can exclude the perforation and do not use the shears. that to cut the plates, the lever 5 carries, near the actuating handle 13, on a support 14, a lever with two arms, the arm 15 of which is shaped so as to allow actuation by means of the finger and , when a traction is exerted towards the handle 13, places the shoe or stopper 17, which is fixed thereto,
5 between the lever 5 and the frame 9. If, therefore, the lever / is raised lowered to cut, the stopper / 17 forms an intermediate bearing, which prevents the punch 1 from acting.
For cutting, the operating mode of the apparatus: the following: the slate plate, is placed between the edges of the blades curved in the length direction and the cutting lever acts in short movements; it is possible to rotate according to the desired rounding of the cut. By further lowering the lever 5 of the shear, a perforation can be obtained in a desired location.
