<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La forme particulière, donnée au bras élastique, constitue un moyen permettant de régler l'effort de serrage appliqué par ce bras sur le patin du rail et, lors de l'enfoncement, le crampon peut être vissé jusqu'au moment où l'extrémité libre du bras susdit vient porter contre le patin et subit de la part de ce dernier une¯pression de déformation lorsqu'on poursuit le vissage, ce qui exerce sur le patin un effort de retienne, tan- dis que le degré de déformation accordé au bras élastique peut être réglé à volonté en vissant plus ou moins le crampon dans la traverse, Le pas de l'hélice;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to elastic fastening elements intended to fasten railway rails and the like, or the cushions of these rails, to sleepers or other supports, this fastening being of the kind for which an arm is adapted to support elastically on a wing of the rail or of the pad, this arm being connected or can be connected to an anorage member which can be fixed to the cross member or any other similar support.
The object of the invention is to improve fixing devices of this type.
According to the invention, recourse is had to a rail fastening element comprising an anchoring part suitable for screwing into a cross member or any other similar support, or into an anchoring member suitable for being fixed to its. lathe to a cross member or similar support, as well as an arm intended to rest on the shoe of the rail (or on a wing of the bearing) while forming an integral part of said anchoring part, this arm having the appearance of a loop so as to have a free end able to bear on or against the shoe of the rail (or a wing, of the bearing),
while the direction of the path followed by the loop between its end of attachment to the anchoring part and its free end is opposite to the direction of the rotational movement which should be imparted to this anchoring part in order to Screw it into the cross member or the like or into any other anchoring member.
In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the fixing member may comprise a crampon, the anchoring part of which comprises a threaded or twisted rod in such a way that it can function as a screw, so that the rod can be driven in. by screwing into a cross member.
In this case, the arm which bears on or against the rail shoe or the wing of the bearing can be constituted by an extension of said rod.
According to a variant, a fastening element, established in accordance with the invention, may comprise a nut, the body of which constitutes the anchoring part and has an internal thread intended to receive an appropriate threaded element provided, for example. , on the shank of a bolt protruding upward from the cross member.
In either case, the loop, formed by the arm of the element which rests on the wing or the pad, advantageously has a helical shape and can cover approximately 7 / 8ths of a complete turn. a relatively small pitch propeller.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of examples, several embodiments of the invention.
FIG. 1 shows, in partial cross section with respect to the rail, the maintenance of the latter with the aid of spikes established according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows, in plan, the device of Figure 1.
FIGS. 3 and 4 show, respectively in elevation and in plan, a variant of a clamp established according to the invention.
FIGS. 5 and 6 show, respectively in elevation (parts in section) and in plan, another variant of the fixing clamp established according to the invention.
Figures 7 and 8 show, similarly, another variant usable in the particular case where the fixing of the rail is done using pads.
The rail clamp, shown in figures 1 and 2, is obtained
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
from a round spring steel bar, the diameter of which is chosen according to the profile of the rail for which the clamp is used.
The lower part of the shank of the crampon has a thread
10 which can be produced by rolling or in a threading machine, this thread extending between the lower end of the rod 11 and a point above the mid-height thereof, the remaining part of the rod 11. rod being cylindrical.
The elastic arm 13, intended to bear on or against the shoe of the rail or the aid of the pad, constitutes the extension of the rod of which it forms an integral part The rod 11 is bent at right angles at its upper end so as to form a short part 12 oriented radially, the remainder of the rod being obtained by folding back on itself the bent part, which is extended by a part of cylindrical shape, being seen in plan, so as to constitute a helix fragment . The angular circumference of this helix corresponds, roughly, to seven-eighths of a full circle, in other words, the helix covers an arc whose center angle is approximately 315.
The helix is formed so as to descend or approach towards the other end 10 of the rod, the direction of rotation of this propeller, from its connection with the upper end 14 of the rod to its free end
15, being opposite to that of the threads of the rod. It follows that if the thread is on the right the propeller turns in the direct direction when seen in plan. The height or the real pitch of this propeller depends on the amplitude of the deformation which one wishes to obtain at the free end of the propeller when it undergoes a load and is applied on the pad. rail.
This kind of crampon can be used in combination with a saddle or sole 16 of the rail 17, which rests on a wooden cross member 18.
In this case, the saddle 16 has in the center a hollow part 19 intended to receive the shoe 20 of the rail and, on each side of this hollow part, a hole 21 which passes through the plate and whose diameter is sufficient to allow easy passage. of the spike shank. Furthermore, the saddle 16 is provided with a projecting rim 22 placed a short distance outside each of the aforementioned studded holes, the internal face 23 of each rim having the shape of an arc of a circle, being seen in plan, so as to match the curvature of the propeller.
This shoulder forms a fixed stop for the propeller, in order to prevent the latter from moving under the influence of forces acting transversely with respect to the axis of the crampon.
The crampon is applied to the rail by passing its rod through a hole 21 drilled in the saddle 16 and screwing the crampon into the cross member 10, which can be done by using a socket wrench of a special kind, which can engage on the propeller so as to rotate the shank of the crampon, the rotation of the latter being continued until. that the free end 15 of the propeller comes to bear on the upper face of the shoe 20 of the rail 17. The crampon is then screwed to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the load which is desired to be applied to the shoe by the 'intermediary of the elastic arm 13 of the propeller.
For the variant, shown in Figures 3 and 4, the crampon is formed from a profile having an oval section and provided with a rod
30 and an elastic arm 31 of helical shape, as for the embodiment described above except that, in this case, instead of threading, the lower part of the rod, this part 32 is subjected to a des- tined to give it the shape of a corkscrew and that the propeller is formed by bending the elastic arm at 33 along the long axis of its oval section
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and pulling this arm away from the rod. This particular form of crampon is suitable for rails which are mounted directly on wooden sleepers, without the intervention of saddles or soles, if these sleepers are already notched or hollowed out to receive rails.
According to another variant (Figures 5 and 6), a crampon is made from a profile having an oval section and provided with a rod 34 whose shape is obtained by twisting, as for the variant described above. .
In this case, instead of the elastic arm 35, which bears on the shoe of the rail or on the intermediate saddle, being circular, when seen in plan, it has the appearance of a substantially helical loop and in the form of a C. In this case also, the free end 36 of the arm is bent at a right angle so as to present a short portion oriented parallel to the axis of the rod and suitable for bearing against the lateral edge of the pad 37 of the rod. rail when the adjacent part 38 of the arm 35 bears on the upper face of this patina
This type of crampon is particularly useful in the case of sleepers without saddles; the aforesaid short protrusion 36, which terminates the elastic arm, rests against the edge of the shoe of the rail in order to prevent the latter from moving transversely.
A rail clamp of the aforementioned type, as well as those of any other type established in accordance with the invention, has the advantage of ensuring positive anchoring in the cross member by virtue of its screw rod, which constitutes an effective means of preventing the vertical path of the studs, as sometimes happens as a result of the sagging and undulating movement of the rails
In addition, the screw rod facilitates the use of such crampons in conjunction with concrete sleepers or supports having wooden, fiber or any other material dowels which are embedded in the concrete sleepers so that they can be then screw threaded or twisted rods of the cramponso
Since the danger that the wooden sleepers split is low or zero when the spikes, established according to the invention, are introduced,
in these sleepers just as in the case of other crampons which must be embedded in the sleepers, and as moreover, the threaded rod itself forms its threaded housing in the sleeper, a crampon can be removed and replace it in the same hole, which eliminates the need to drill new holes or to drive staples into unengaged parts of the sleepers.
The particular shape, given to the elastic arm, constitutes a means making it possible to adjust the tightening force applied by this arm on the shoe of the rail and, when driving in, the crampon can be screwed in until the end free of the aforesaid arm comes to bear against the pad and undergoes from the latter a deformation pressure when the screwing is continued, which exerts a retaining force on the pad, while the degree of deformation granted to the elastic arm can be adjusted at will by screwing the crampon more or less in the cross member, The pitch of the propeller;
as well as the thread of the rod and the elastic characteristics of the material used to constitute the stud can also be varied to achieve a wide range of retaining forces without departing from the elastic limits of the material used to form the stud.
In addition, the crampons are easily placed using a socket wrench suitable for following the circumference of the elastic arms, this wrench can be easily released without damaging the crampon or the cross member, which significantly reduces maintenance costs.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In addition, in the case of a clamp with a twisted shank, the latter itself forms, in the cross member, a housing or tapped hole which is deep and effective. In addition, the oval section of the crampon gives it a greater degree of flexibility when adjusting the retention force.
The variant, shown in Figures 7 and 8, comprises an anchoring part or a body 40 of square or hexagonal shapes, being seen in plan, this part comprising a central threaded hole whose threads are suitable for receiving the threaded part. 41 of a rod 42 of an ordinary bolt, of the kind used to hold the sole or support plate 43 which is placed between the shoe 44 of a rail and the cross member 45, made of wood or concrete .
The elastic arm 46, which is in contact with the shoe of the rail, forms an integral part of the body or of the anchoring part 40 of the nut and surrounds the body of the nut in an arc, the angle of which at the center is about 315, in a similar way to that described above for the helical arm of the visa clamp
Preferably, the diameter of the propeller is chosen so as to allow the engagement of a tool, similar to a socket wrench, on the square part of the nut to allow the latter to be screwed onto the rod of the nut. bolt which retains the sole, the pitch of the propeller being chosen: so as to suit the force which one.does exert, in particular, on the shoe of the rail.
Furthermore, the body 40 of the nut may have a certain number of radial slots 47 which divide this body into a certain number of sectors 48 which deform when the nut is screwed onto the shank of the bolt, in order to constitute a kind of locking which prevents loosening of the nut under the influence of vibrations transmitted from the rail through the elastic helical arm 46.
This nut is particularly suitable when it is desired to use bolt fasteners for wide-shoe rails, since it constitutes an elastic and adjustable retaining member, so that the retaining force which it makes. exercise can be modified according to the case. In addition, this nut can be used with wooden sleepers fitted with cast iron or rolled steel flanges.
This nut is also suitable for concrete sleepers in which it is essential to use a flange bolt to constitute a positive retaining means and in the case of concrete sleepers in which the rail retainer- consists of an elastic or flexible part, this nut constituting an effective complement in a complete fastening device which provides the maximum elasticity under the influence of loads, vibrations and shocks, as well as in the event of a track of the rails
Fixing devices with a clamp or nut, established according to the invention,
have the additional advantage of protecting the rail against horizontal routing while at the same time constituting an effective locking against vertical routing If we consider for example a certain number of spikes distributed at certain intervals on either side of the rail, the free ends of the resilient arms, which are on one side of the rail are oriented one way, while those of the arms on the other side of the rail are all oriented in the opposite direction, so that on either side of the rail, a more or less horizontal component of the forces exerted by each elastic arm is obtained, this component tending to prevent the horizontal displacement of the arm, which means that the use of these studs or nuts as fixing elements,
prevents this horizontal displacement in both directions.
