The invention relates to the application, to bicycles, scooters and the like, of a means of optical direction signaling by flashing lamps, that is to say with interrupted ignition.
In a preferred embodiment, the invention also relates to a particularly simple, economical and systematic means for carrying out such an application. This means has, in fact, the advantage of practically no bulk.
Substantially, this preferred means consists in combining the direction indicator lamps and the circuits for feeding said lamps, on the one hand, by a rotary contactor mounted on the hub of a wheel and comprising at least one driven mobile. rotating with the wheel and capable of periodically opening at least one normally closed contact controlling said circuits and, on the other hand, an inverter easily manoeuvrable by the user and capable of switching on at will either indicator lamp or group of direction indicator lamps.
The rotary contractor can easily be produced substantially by the combination, on the one hand, of a fixed casing concentric with the hub and bearing on its inner face at least two elastic strips normally in contact interposed in the circuit of the indicator lamps of direction and on the other hand, at least one roller made of an insulating material rotated by the wheel and arranged so as to follow a circular path interfered with by said contact blades. By the normal rotation of the wheel, said roller practically interrupts the contact between the two blades.
These slats or groups of slats can obviously be arranged in any suitable manner and suitably control any pre-established circuit with a view to ensuring the switching on of the lamp or of a group of directional lamps depending on the position of the lamp. inverter.
The invention extends to all applications, generally whatever, regardless of the electrical and mechanical devices and accessories used for this purpose.
Without any limiting nature, one embodiment is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which; FIG. 1 schematically as briefly as possible the direction indicating device, object of the invention; FIG. 2 represents the rotary contactor in radial section; FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section of FIG. 2, the rotary contactor being in the closed position; Figure 4 is a cpupe along line IV-IV of Figure 2, the rotary contactor being in the open position; Figure 5 is a schematic plan view of a bicycle equipped with the device of the invention; FIGS. 6 and 7 are variant embodiments of FIG. 3.
As shown briefly in FIG. 1, the device of the invention consists of the combination of at least two lamps or groups of directional lamps, respectively 1-1 '2-2', an electric current generator 3, an inverter. 4 and a rotary switch 5, these devices being grouped into circuits, for example as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1. The direction lamps can be of any type obviously suitable for the bicycle, the transporter or the similar vehicle. The electric current generator 3 will generally be an alter-

Nator of the usual type mounted practically on any bicycle.
The reverser 4 is of any type and formed, for example, by a three-position switch, two of which are active and an intermediate rest position, provided with a handle or push-button easily accessible by the user.
The rotary contactor can of course be of any type.
An example of execution is illustrated in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. In this example, this contactor is formed by a housing 6 firmly fixed, for example by nuts 7-8, on the fixed axis 9 forming the support of the fork of the bicycle frame. On the inside face of this casing 6 are fixed two contact strips 10-11 by means of the terminals, respectively 12-13. The large strip is duly isolated from the housing by a insulating strip 18 and an insulating washer 19, while the small strip is isolated only inside the housing 6 by the aforesaid insulating strip 18. On the hub 14 of the front wheel, for example 15,
is fixed a journal 16 on which is mounted crazy a roller 17 of an insulating material.
This roller 17 and the contact blades 10-11 are mounted mutually, such that said blades are normally in the circular path of said roller 17. Therefore, if, as shown schematically in Figure 1, the inverter 4 is in the rest position, said roller 17 normally driven by the front wheel, will periodically interrupt contact between the two blades 10-11; which has no effect on the steering blades.
On the contrary, if the inverter is brought into one of the two active positions, for example in the position switching on the direction lamps 1-1 ', the electrical circuit will be obtained. The arm of these two lamps will be, at each turn of the wheel, opened by the interruption of the contact of the two slats 10-11 under the solicitation of the ga @ let 17 and these two lamps will be 'periodically on, thus achieving the signaling flashing. It will be the same for the direction lamps 2-2 'when the reverser is placed in the corresponding active position.
One could obviously multiply the pairs of blades 10-11 along the circumference of the casing 6 or else, with one or more pairs of such blades,
one could also use one or more contact rollers 17.
In the schematic view; of figure 5, we find all the elements of the diagram of figure 1.
It is also possible, as shown schematically in figure 6, to remove the small lamella, and to bring the large lamella directly into contact with the edge of the case, in order to obtain the lighting of the lamps or, as shown schematically in figure 7, to isolate the case, the large and the small lamella, and bring the large lamella directly into contact with the edge of the casing.
