<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to a device for transmitting signals remotely.
For this purpose, various devices are already known which are generally
EMI1.1
lement of a complicated construction and- whose operation e-s-t delicate.
In addition, these devices do not have at the same time the three essential qualities which constitute the precision, the speed and the simplicity.
The present invention concerning a signaling device having a repeater controlled by a researcher analyzing a figure consists in constituting the repeater by mechanisms whose position is a function of the actions undergone by the researcher and produced by the contrasts existing in the figure he analysis.
According to one feature, the repeater is formed by moving parts provided with characteristic elements such as lugs, numbers or any other signs and which are set in motion separately by means controlled by the actions undergone by the researcher.
The figuration has contrasting parts, such as hollows and reliefs, black and white parts, solids and holes, distributed
EMI1.2
in èorresp, onlance ..with the characteristic elements of the moving parts which they must represent and such as, for example, numbers or letters.
The distances between the contrasts are not constant because
EMI1.3
they correspond to the displ8DaJn3nt8 of the respective moving parts, that is to say 'that 1B.s displacements that the moving parts must undergo to give such corresponding characteristic element, determine in each zone the distances between the corresponding contrasts of the figuration.
In other words, the difference between two consecutive contrasts on the researcher's path is never zero but it is conventional and depends on the displacement
EMI1.4
that must be subjected lesp4eces mobiles of the repeater to bring on them the characteristic element ,, which corresponds to said deviation in the analyzed zone.
In the event that, according to a preferred embodiment, the
EMI1.5
figuration is formed by a set of lines, some ends of these are distorted or extended to ensure the accuracy of the actions suffered by the -researcher. This fi-guration can furnish the dial with a measuring device whose relative position with respect to the finder allows the latter to analyze the area of interest.
According to a particularity of a practical embodiment, the researcher consists of an analyzer mounted on a carriage moved to a
EMI1.6
constant speed - following a predetermined path so that it successively renounces the various contrasts of the area to be analyzed. The carriage comprises a frame mounted on bearings which run through guideways, one of which is fixed while the other is subjected to the action of permanent springs in order to automatically take up any play.
The analyzer consists of a light spot striking the figuration at a constant angle and whose reflected ray comes to impress a cell.

photoelectric whose pulses are transmitted to an amplifier then to a selector which influences the repeater with moving parts.
In addition, the contrast analyzer comprises a means for deriving the light spot when the latter is at the limit between two neighboring zones.

sines of figuration; the drift of the spot is controlled by the position of the moving part of the repeater actuated first, that is to say that depending on the action undergone by the first moving part the drift is controlled

die or not. The moving parts of the repeater are crazy moneed knobs, smoothly rubbing on a shaft rotating at constant speed and whose successive and interdependent releases are -commanded by the pulses of the analyzer which have passed through the amplifier.
The stopping of one wheel and the release of the next can also be controlled by contrasts of the figuration and by different pawls or pivoting levers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Other features may appear in the following description of the appended drawings which show, by way of example only, one mode of application of the invention.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a schematic overall view of the device according to the invention applied to the case of reading the graduated dial of a measuring device.
Figure 2 is a partial view on a large scale of a range of the figuration appearing on the dial.
Figure 3 is a partial schematic view of the cart carrying the finder.
FIGS. 4 and 5 are schematic, partial views, respectively in elevation and in plan, showing two knobs and an actuating device.
Referring to Figure 2, it can be seen that the mobile dial of a measuring device is lined with areas, such as those shown.
In this particular case, the areas are formed by a series of shiny lines on a black background. The analyzer starting from the edge 2a of the dial 2 travels, before meeting the first shiny line A, a sufficient course so that all the moving parts of the repeater 5 (figure 1) which will be described below are brought back to the starting position . When the analyzer encounters the bright line A it sends to cell 3 a pulse which, amplified by amplifier 4, is transmitted, after having passed through selector 4a, to repeater 5 in order to release the first wheel 21 which begins to turn. .
The analyzer carried by a carriage described later, advances along the arrow X and, depending on the stop position of the dial, it reaches a shiny line such as B which corresponds to the units of the lower order, for example the halves. By this line B, cell 3 receives a second impulsiop. constituting a signal transmitted to the amplifier .4, to the selector 4a then to the repeater 5 which stops the rotation of the first wheel 21 thus giving a figure corresponding to the units of the lower order and for example 0.5. This stop is controlled by a device, which will be described later and similar to that shown in Figures 4 and 5.
This device simultaneously releases the second wheel 22; this rotates until it is stopped by the passage of the light spot over the shining line C during the progress of the analyzer; stopping the wheel 22 simultaneously releases the third wheel 23. The distances between the lines B and C of the figure are variable because they each correspond to the various digits of the order of units.
After the units digit has been recorded by stopping the second knob 22, when passing the spot over the line C, the analyzer continues its straight path following the arrow X until the light spot hits the line. line DA this moment occurring the stop of the; wheel 23 registering the tens digit and the release of the wheel 24.
By its course between the lines D and E the analyzer brings the number of the hundreds on the wheel 24; finally, the path of the analyzer between E and F must correspond to the thousands digit on the thumbwheel 25.
On the part of the surface of the dial between the reading limits are provided areas similar to that which has just been described and which correspond respectively to the numbers of the graduation to be read.
As seen in schematic figure 1, in front of the dial 2, is placed the reader carriage 6 which carries the analyzer 7 formed by a lamp 8 sending, through a lens 9 a light spot 10 on said dial , at a constant angle. When the light ray reaches a brilliant line of the figuration established on the frame, it is reflected and strikes! -The photoelectric cell, 3 whose impulses are transmitted
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to amplifier 4, selector 4a and repeater 5.
The reader carriage 6 carrying the analyzer 7 is composed of a frame 6a, for example triangular in shape, (figure 3) which is provided with bearings 11 at the upper part, that is to say along the base. triangle and a bearing 12 at the voi sinage of the top, the upper bearings 11 follow a raceway formed by the guide 13 which is a rectified, cylindrical fixed rod, wedged in the lateral stems 14 and 15, while the lower bearing 13 is in contact with the guide 16 formed by a rectified, cylindrical rod, pivoting at 15a and whose end
16a is permanently subject to spring 17.
The bearings are associated in pairs, that is to say that each of the water has two elements such as, for example, two rollers, the axes of which are inclined on one another to clamp their respective raceway.
This method of construction is advantageous in that it allows the automatic catching up of the possible game under the action of the spring 17. The displacement of the carriage 6 is obtained by a rack-and-pinion drive 18 and 19; the latter is set in rotation by the synchronous motor shown schematically at 20. It is obviously possible to have recourse to any other mode of drive such as by pulley and tape or cable.
The repeater 5 (FIG. 1) comprises a set of rollers, for example 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 mounted soft and with gentle friction on the shaft 26 driven by the synchronous motor shown schematically at 27. The knobs provided on their cylindrical surface figures of the order that each represents are rotated by the shaft 26 when they are not locked in position by the levers 21a, 22a, 23a, 24a, 25a and 26a, pivoting around the shaft 28. The ends 21d, 22b, 22d, 23b, 23d, 24b, 24d, 25b, 25d, and 26b of these levers come in connection with singularities such as lugs or teeth on the knurling wheels which are thus retained.
The release of said knobs is done successively by the action of the electromagnets 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34 acting respectively on the ends 21c, 22c, 23c, 24c, 25c and 26c of the levers. according to the amplified pulses which they receive from the selector 4a which itself is supplied by the amplifier 4 receiving the pulses from the cell 3 during the movement of the carriage-reader 6 in front of the dial 2, the levers 22a to 25a have their ends respective shapes to allow, during their actuation, to wedge a wheel and release the next wheel. This is done through -8. a device similar to that shown in figures ... and 5.
A lever such as 22a ends in two tabs 22b, 22d, which can come, through their beaks, into contact with the toothed wheels 21h, 22g, integral with the wheels 21 and 22. By construction, when the bottom of 22b is in contact with the 21h wheel the 22d nozzle is not related to the 22g wheel and vice versa. An identical device is provided between each wheel, lesdeux end wheels 21 and 25 being however respectively released and wedged by levers having only one action, that is to say ending in a single tab. In addition, the toothed wheel 21h integral with the wheel 21 corresponding to the half-units has one deep tooth in two.
Each time the be c of the tab 22b falls into a deep tooth, at a given mark it corresponds on the wheel 21 always the same number, 5 for example.
The second lever 22a which wedges the first wheel 21, and releases the second wheel is moreover provided with a contact 22f controlling the electromagnet 35 (FIG. 1) - which slightly deflects the analyzer in certain cases, to guarantee the 'accuracy of the readings at the ends of the lines which can constitute questionable zones at the limit of two neighboring ranges.
In FIG. 2, it can be seen that certain lines of a range are in alignment with certain lines of neighboring ranges; if the analyzer 7 must precisely follow the path where the lines meet, it is understood that the reading may be distorted. To avoid this drawback, provision is made for, in each range, the lines which determine the stop of the dial giving the figure
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the lower order are respectively extended in the range close to that to which they belong; so the traits? B have their anterior extremity prolonged.
This way, if by the movement of the seeker the light spot 10 of the analyzer is not influenced by the extended line B, it is only subject to the influence of the contrasts, that is to say lines of the range located at mowing of the path followed by the analyzer 7 (FIG. 2) according to the arrow X. On the contrary, if the spot 10 is influenced by the extended end of the line B, that is to say -if, during the displacement of the researcher, the light spot meets the extended line B - then it is deviated to the right of the path followed by the analyzer 7 (FIG. 2).
In this b .1, the wheel 21h of the first wheel 21 has any singularity. In the case described (figure 4) this singularity is constituted by every second deep tooth, provided on the 21h wheel. This device actuates the contact 22f by the end of the lever 22a for a position in relation to the number that the said wheel 21a has recorded.
Thus, if the graduation goes from half a unit to half a unit, the singularity, that is to say in our case the deep tooth triggers the contact 22f when the wheel 21 registers a number 5 for the lower units; -then the light spot deflected by the action of the electromagnet 35 will travel a path inside a lage, for example following the arrows XX, X3- or -suuvant the other arrows Z1, Z each corresponding to a number 5 of the dial 21 giving the units of the lower order.
In addition, the front ends C ', D', E ', F', of the lines C, D, E, F which should be similar to the pointed ends of the lines B are distorted so that the light spot 10 of the analyzer 7 carries out at this place routes such that they cause sudden and correct actions of the ray reflected on cell 3.
In the embodiment which has just been described, the features of the figuration are drawn in matt black on a shiny background; it is possible without departing from the invention to have recourse to any other mode of representation; thus, for example, the figuration could be opaque on a transparent background.
