A weight training apparatus comprising a peg for selecting part of a stack of weights, wherein said peg acts as a transmitter enabling a sensor system to sense the selected number of weights as well as the distance travelled by the weights, the time taken and their speed.

Claims (9)

  1. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus which comprises a weight resisting device consisting of weights or counterweights (1) vertically stackable to form a stack extending along a shaft (5) in which the pin (10) makes it possible to lock a part of the stack (3) which the user moves vertically, the weights or counterweights (1) bearing on the pin, such that the apparatus comprises a support extending along a vertical shaft provided with a receiver system composed of several fixed detectors (16), apparatus characterized in that the pin acts as transmitter and moves in proximity to the receiver system so that this system makes it possible on the one hand to detect the initial position (18) of the pin (10) along the shaft (5) and hence to detect the number of counterweights selected, and on the other hand this system makes it possible to detect the displacement along the shaft (5) of the pin (10) and hence of the part of the weight stack (3).
  2. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that the end (12) of the pin (10) is provided with a magnet (14) fixed rigidly to the pin and in that the apparatus comprises a support (15) extending along a vertical axis substantially parallel to the shaft (5) of the stack (2), this support comprising detectors (16) which are actuated (closure of an electrical contact) when they are in the magnetic field of the magnet (14).
  3. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the receiver system consists of a known number of detectors (16) and in that these detectors (16) are substantially parallel to one another and are regularly spaced by a value referred to as the pitch (28).
  4. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the value of the pitch (28) goes an integer number of times into the value of the thickness (29) of a counterweight (1) thereby making it possible to ascertain the position of the detector actuated (31) by the pin (10) with respect to the weight stack (2).
  5. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that each detector (16) is individually and electrically linked to an electronic module (19) and in that the detector actuated (31) by the magnetic field of the magnet (14) experiences closure of its electrical contact (34) and in that the electric current thereby flowing around the specific circuit (37) peculiar to the actuated detector (31) is detected by a signal processing device peculiar to the module (19).
  6. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that by identifying the actuator detector (31), the position of the pin (10) is known in real time from its initial position and throughout its displacement and in that since the pin (10) is locked with the part (3) of the weight stack moved by the user by way of the transmission element (8), the load displacement data are known.
  7. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the modules (19) supporting the detectors (16) are disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the shaft (13) of the pin (10) so that regardless of the position of the pin (10) with respect to the said shaft (13) the detector or detectors (31) situated in proximity to the pin (10) always lie in the magnetic field of the magnet (14), thereby guaranteeing that the measurements will always be performed independently of the manner in which the user depresses the pin (10) through the stack (2) and through the rod of the selector (7) when he selects the load.
  8. Sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the receiver system consisting of the support (15) and of the modules (19) is linked to an electronic signal processing device (17), displays the values of the effort and manages these values via preset and modifiable training programmes and in that the said device (17) can be linked by way of a converter to a computer, a printer, an access control system, a modem and any other element compatible with the computing system so as to gather the data supplied by the sensor system and utilize it elsewhere or subsequently.
  9. This sports or rehabilitation apparatus according to Claims 1 to 8 is characterized in that each machine equipped with an electronic signal processing and display device (17) and with the said sensor system can be connected into a network by way of a converter (41) which network is itself linked to a computer so that this computer exchanges data (programmes, results of the training) with each machine.
