La longueur de la bande est de 10 cm, la largeur de 4 cmo Un des bords longitudinaux de la bande présente neuf encoches c, qui ont la forme d'un triangle rectangle dont un des côtés de l'angle droit coïncide avec le long côté de la bande tandis que l'autre côté d est parallèle au côté court bo Dans l'exemple de la figo 1, le côté d, d'une longueur de 12 mm, de l'encoche c inférieure est à 1 cm du côté court b ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
ques.

The present invention relates to a ruler for marking the hem on pieces of fabric, which is characterized by a rectangular piece provided with at least one graduation and of which at least one of the longitudinal edges has a series of equidistant notches and at least a linear mark intersecting the notches and extending a certain distance from this edge parallel to the latter.
The appended drawing shows two exemplary embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs 1 and 2 represent the first embodiment seen from the front, respectively from doso
Figs 3 and 4 represent the second embodiment seen from the front, respectively from doso
The strip according to the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a rectangular strip a, for example of synthetic material.
The length of the strip is 10 cm, the width of 4 cmo One of the longitudinal edges of the strip has nine notches c, which have the shape of a right triangle of which one of the sides of the right angle coincides with the long side of the strip while the other side d is parallel to the short side bo In the example of figo 1, the side d, with a length of 12 mm, from the lower notch c is 1 cm from the short side b;
the same distance exists between the sides d of two neighboring notches o A marking line e extends parallel to the side of the edge provided with the notches c and 1 cm from this side and cuts the notches co The edge of the strip provided with the notches c thus have ten tabs numbered from 1 to 100. Tab 1 is provided with a smaller notch cl similar to notches c and whose side dl is parallel to the short side b and is located 5 mm from the latter.
The longitudinal edge of the strip opposite the one provided with the notches c has a rectangular notch f 5 mm wide, the lower side of which, in the example of figo 1, is 7 cm from the short side bo
The strip has on the front, along one of the short ribs, a graduation go Such a graduation could be found alone or in addition on the longitudinal edge provided with the notch fo
The ruler shown allows you to mark on a piece of fabric the desired width of a hem o Marking is done by passing a thread through the fabric The short side b of the ruler is superimposed on the edge of the fabric and the thread is threaded through the fabric by means of a needle in the notch c, the side of the right angle of which is at the desired distance from the edge of the fabric. By sliding the slider along the
edge of the fabric, we can quickly mark the width of the hem o The notch f serves the same purpose, coàodo to mark the width of a hem, the distance from its boundary line f1 to the short side b corresponding to the width which is often found for hems in pieces of women's clothing, so that the use of this notch practically excludes any marking fault on the fabric.
The ruler can also be used for the execution of so-called "Smok embroidery" work o The procedure for the preliminary work for Smok embroidery is as follows: the fabric to be embroidered is, if possible, fixed with a straight longitudinal edge on a support.
The width necessary for the embroidery is marked by a line parallel to the upper edge of the fabric, which can very easily be done with the ruler and filo. The edges of the ruler are superimposed exactly on the upper and side edges of the fabric. 'fabric and also to the line marked previously with thread, after which a stitch is made in correspondence of the notched edge of the strip and at the same time at 1 cm from this edge, i.e. on the line eo We thus obtain two lines of absolutely identical points.

ques. We then slide the strip parallel to itself, superimposing its edge on the second row of points.
We continue in this way until we have obtained the complete marking which succeeds at least as precise as that drawn by means of a tracing pattern.
The embodiment of the strip according to fig. 3 and 4 differs from that of FIGS. 1 and 2 by the fact that it has a second line of marking el at 5 mm from the first line of marking e and in addition by the fact that the two lines appear both on the front and on the back of the strip. The notches c are delimited by two parallel lines d and d1, from which the line d1 extends from the edge to the line e1.
From line e1 to the end of line d, there is a delimitation line d2 inclined with respect to line e1. It is thus possible to use the front of the ruler for markings at 1, 2, 3 ... cm and the back for markings at 1/2, 1 1/2, 2 1/2 .. .cm.
The rods shown have a division and a distribution of notches based on the centimeter. Instead of the metric system, one could provide another measuring system or any other division according to other views common in the clothing industry. We could provide, in the edge provided with the notch f, other notches; this edge could also have a series of notches having between them a different distance from that existing between the notches of the other edge.
