The: bicycle crankset, to reduce friction as much as possible and therefore the fatigue of the cyclist, is mounted on balls, Generally free balls are used, housed between a cone formed on the axis of the crankset of a on the one hand, and on the other hand an adjustable cup mounted by screwing on the boot of the crankset.
Real ball bearings are also used, the cage of which is fixed to the press on the bottom bracket.
The cost price of these assemblies is necessarily high.
When bicycles have been fitted with small auxiliary motors providing additional motive power. but not completely excluding pedaling, mounting the cranksets and naturally remains the same.
However, the Applicant has recognized that a substantial saving could be made by deviating from this routine construction.
In accordance with the invention, in fact, the crankshaft is simply mounted in smooth bearings.
Since also the user, with modern mopeds, pedal very rarely and over very short distances - in fact for starting only - the loss @ in efficiency of this assembly, compared to the assembly on balls, does not play a role. practice no role.
The economy resulting from the elimination of balls, cups or complete bearings, is increased by that resulting from the disappearance of the threads on the bottom bracket, and from the simplification of the axle, which no longer has a cone. , andt can therefore be constituted by a simple section of round steel.
In addition to these constructive advantages, there is that of the tightness of the crankset and that which results from the creation between the two smooth bearings of a chamber which can be filled with grease under pressure.
Finally, the crank axle can, in the following device. The invention be easily assembled and removed at the end, and this by one end or the other.
Other details of the invention will emerge from the description which follows and which relates to a practical embodiment shown by way of example in the appended drawing, showing a moped crankset viewed in longitudinal section.
In the bottom bracket 1, also formed by a single section of raw tube, are force-fitted two rings 2 and 3 forming a stop shoulder 4 on the end faces of the bottom bracket shell. These rings are established in a suitable anti-friction metal, and preferably a self-lubricating alloy. They can be provided with the usual spider legs. Between these two rings, the crank axle 5 and the bottom bracket 1 is formed a chamber 6 which can be filled with pressurized lubricant, by means of the grease nipple 7.
In the example shown, the crank axle is maintained in the longitudinal direction by means of two removable split elastic rings, or circlips 8, 9 housed in two circular grooves 10, 11 of the axle. Between these two circlips and the end face of the rings 2, 3 is interposed a

washer 12.13 made of hard steel, for example nickel-chromium steel. Of course, the immobilization of the axis can be carried out in any other known manner.
The assembly of the two cranks is carried out as usual, by means of keys 14, 15.
The lubrication of the needle bearing 16 of the moped pedal relay, of known construction and the execution of which remains outside the scope of the invention, is provided by the channels 17, 18, drilled in the axis 5.
The progress represented by the very great simplification achieved by the invention, compared to the current construction, is evident from the drawing.
