SUPPORT POUR SOMMIER ELASTIQUE, NOTAMMENT DE FAUTEUILS, DIVANS, etc.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

SUPPORT FOR ELASTIC BASE, ESPECIALLY ARMCHAIRS, DIVANS, etc.
The present invention relates to a support for elastic bases, more especially the bases of armchairs, sofas, etc.
According to the invention, such a support consists essentially of one or more straps each formed by a succession of closed metal turns, the elasticity of such straps being ensured by the deformation of the turns.
In a particular embodiment, the succession of turns is produced starting from two metal wires twisted around each other at selected points, the part of these wires between two points of torsion forming a coil.
In another particular embodiment, the succession of turns is produced starting from two metal wires joined together at selected points, the part of these wires lying between two attachment points forming a coil.
Still according to the invention, such a support for an elastic bed base is constituted by a metal net obtained by joining together the closed lower turns of a series of adjacent springs, these various lower turns thus forming substantially a plane, the elasticity of such a net being ensured by the deformation of the turns in all directions. This meeting of the lower turns of the springs, between them, can be obtained by their interlacing.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the drawings.
Figure 1 is a support strap according to the invention.
FIG. 2 shows another form of application of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 3 shows a manufacturing detail.
In Figure 1, the strap according to the invention consists of two metal son 1 and 2, normally steel son, which, at selected points 3, are twisted together, so as to form turns 4 between two points 3 consecutive. These turns 4 will be of any shape.
It will be understood immediately that the elasticity of such a strap will be given by the deformation of the turns. In other words, if such a strap is used to support any metal base, for example, an armchair, a sofa, etc., it will react elastically under the weight of the load supported by the base with deformation turns which then resume their initial shape after removing this load.
Such a new type of strap will advantageously replace the non-elastic textile straps, or ropes, or other similar means, used heretofore.
The same elasticity effect can be achieved by constituting a kind of support net under a set of coil springs. For this purpose (Figures 2 and 3) the base of each of the springs is arranged so as to end in the form of a closed coil 5 (Figure 3). These various spring bases 5 are then intertwined (FIG. 2) so as to be all integral with one another and to constitute, in a way, a series of straps of the type of FIG. 1, joined together and also working elastically by deformation of the turns in all directions.
It is obvious that the lower turns 5 of the springs of FIG. 2 can be joined together, other than by interlacing.
Likewise, the threads 1 and 2 of the strap of FIG. 1 could form the points 3 other than by twisting between them.
It should also be understood that the invention is not limited to the above embodiments but that many modifications could be made to them without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
