<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Chacune des deux bandes 1 et chacune des deux bandes 2 sont assem- blées et les assemblages sont renforcés par une bande de papier ou d'une autre matière (référence 4 - fig. 1 et 2);
On pose alors par dessus le plateau ou la plaque 10 le bloc de bois 7, 8 et 9 recouvert des éléments 2 et 5 en prenant soin toutefois de rabattre vers l'extérieur des bordures 51 et 5 (fig. 3 et 4) afin qu'elles oc- cupent les positions représentées à la figure 4;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

SUITCASE AND ITS MANUFACTURING PROCESS.,
The present invention relates to suitcases and aims to allow their manufacture in a much faster manner than hitherto while obtaining a very pleasant presentation.
It also aims to reduce the price not only thanks to this great speed of manufacture but also as a result of better standardization and the rational and economical use of plastics.
This case is characterized essentially in that it comprises a barrel and a cover made of strong cardboard or another similar material both formed of a frame having the shape of a rectangle or approximately this shape provided with a covering and fixed. either by welding or by stitching to two flat surfaces which constitute the bottom and the cover.
In order to make the invention fully understood, an example of an embodiment thereof will be described below, given without limitation, with reference to the drawings in which:
Figures 1 to 7 are intended to illustrate the different phases of manufacture.
Figure 8 shows a completed suitcase.
As shown in these drawings, for the manufacture of a suitcase according to the invention, the procedure is as follows: 1) two strips 1 of cardboard or another material to be used for making the buttress of the cover ( fig. 1) and two bands 2 to be used for making the buttress of the barrel; (fig.
2)
The ends of these strips are cut in such a way as to form so-called “arande tail” assemblies (reference 3 - fig. 1 and 2).
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Each of the two bands 1 and each of the two bands 2 are assembled and the assemblies are reinforced by a strip of paper or another material (reference 4 - fig. 1 and 2);
2) two strips of covering material are then cut and these are glued to the previously prepared buttresses, this gluing being done so that the cover strips 5 occupy a straddling position as shown in Figure 3, and that on each side they protrude about a centimeter from the lower edge of each buttress.
A seam 6 (fig. 4) made at 1/2 cm. from the top of the bole and 1/2 cm. from the bottom of the cover allows the covers to be permanently fixed to the reinforcements. This seam can be done for example on the 45K machine. cylindrical.
By inserting a metal plate connected to the mass between the boxes and the covering material, the non-joined parts of the elements of the barrel and the cover are welded so as to form a ring without any break in continuity both for the barrel and for the covering.
3) in order to give the shape to the suitcase, we introduce both in the front belt which has become the barrel and in the one to become the cover, a wooden mandrel consisting of three removable parts 7, 8, 9 (fig. 4, 5 and 6).
These parts are demon-tables to be able to easily remove them from the suitcase, once it is finished; 4) the following operation consists in spreading on the plate 10 of an electronic machine (in the case of welding) or on a flat table (in the case of gluing with seam) a plate of raw material 11 to serve as a base for the keg only for the lid.
This plate 11 may be of an appropriate plastic material.
The wooden block 7, 8 and 9, covered with the elements 2 and 5, is then placed over the top or the plate 10, taking care, however, to fold the edges 51 and 5 towards the outside (fig. 3 and 4) so that 'they occupy the positions shown in FIG. 4;
5) in this phase of the work, it is important to ensure the connection between the bottom 11 and the barrel or the cover and one can use a welding electrode made up of: a) a part 12 (Fig. 5) acting by pressure on the folded and overlapping edges 51 - 52 of the covering material and serving for the supply of the current; b) a cutting part 13 (fig. 5).
This electrode, which can be replaced by a pressure element (in the event of assembly by gluing and stitching), must follow in a very carefully designed way the contour of the object to be fixed.
The assembly thus formed is properly overflowed and the two constituent elements of the case are completed.
Just place the locks and hinges together with the handle and the suitcase is complete.
A plastic hinge can optionally be welded after seam 6 has been made.
The case can be closed by conventional locks or by tensioning cable.
Schematically, the case comprises a barrel 14 and a cover 15 made as shown in Figure 7 and superimposed as also shown in this figure. It has a striking exterior appearance
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in figure 8.
The method of manufacture described makes it possible to manufacture a suitcase much faster than hitherto while obtaining a very pleasant presentation.
The suitcase of the semi-flexible type thus obtained therefore comprises a barrel and a strong cardboard cover both formed of a frame having the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners covered with plastic or a material and fixed either by stitching. , or by welding, has two flat surfaces which constitute the bottom and the cover.
