<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 5 montre le mécanisme de fixation du mécanisme de désaccouple- ment, mis hors service;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
La chaîne 254 est d'une longueur telle, et elle est reliée à la benne de telle façon, qu'elle est susceptible de retirer la dent 252 de l'é- videment 250, lorsque les mâchoires de la benne sont complètement ouvertes;
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

AUTOMATIC LOADING DEVICE.
The present invention relates to an automatic loading device, particularly for loading bulk materials into wagons, and comprising a bucket suspended from a boom, which can pivot back and forth between a gripping position and a lifting position. unloading.
The object of the invention is to provide a loading device with the aid of which, with the minimum of manpower, it is possible to quickly and efficiently load bulk materials onto a wagon or other vehicle, such as by example gravel, fertilizer, beets or potatoes. Another object of the invention is to carry out such a loading device which makes it possible to load as automatically as possible, so that once started it performs the work automatically and continuously, until the material to be loaded is transported and can then stop.
According to the invention, these objects are achieved in that mechanisms for rotating the boom and closing and opening the bucket are coupled to each other such that, depending on the position in which the boom is brought. by pivoting, the bucket can be closed or opened automatically and that this boom is set automatically back and forth in one direction or the other depending on whether the bucket is open or closed.
The boom can, together with the control mechanisms, be mounted for example on a vehicle, and the mechanisms can be provided with a shaft capable of being connected to a motor, the device then being able to be coupled to a motor. truck or a tractor PTO.
This loading device is therefore particularly suitable for transport companies and agriculture, where in the latter case and depending on the season, bulk materials must be moved from one place to another, for example from fields to the farm and vice versa This is then, among others, beets, potatoes, manure and fertilizer.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mounting the loading device on a vehicle pulled by a tractor and using the latter as a driving force for the control of the device, it is possible for a single person, for example the driver of the tractor, to load the vehicle while it is, for example, stopped in front of a pile of fertilizer where, otherwise, the tractor would run empty,
this period being thus used economically. In addition, the automatic operation of the device offers the advantage that the attendant only has to make sure that the bucket goes down on the fertilizer heap and swivels sideways, so that the fertilizer is removed as it goes. uniquely loaded vehicle. This work can thus be done easily, and the driver of the tractor present in any case can monitor the loading of the vehicle without any other assistance, this operation being carried out on the other hand considerably faster than if it is was done by hand.
With reference to the accompanying drawings which show two embodiments of the loading device according to the invention, further features and advantages will be described below, especially of a device mounted on an agricultural vehicle.
Fig. 1 schematically shows a loading device mounted on a vehicle and comprising a bucket suspended from a boom, and the control mechanisms thereof and of the bucket, the latter being shown in solid lines above; a pile of fertilizer, in its lowest position, its cable fully unwound from the drum, as it will close and rise, the broken lines indicating in this figure the moment when the bucket has rotated in loading position above the vehicle, its jaws half open.
Fig. 2 schematically shows the suspension of the bucket from a trolley running on an H-beam, mounted between two arms cooperating with each other and fixed to the vehicle on either side by a reciprocal distance, the bucket then being designed to load gravel or sand.
Figs. 3 to 5 schematically show a disconnect mechanism for jaws, by means of which the bucket is held in the H-shaped bin when it is raised, this mechanism being intended to release the jaws when said bucket is to be lowered. Of these figures, the

Figs. 6 and 7 show another embodiment of a loading device according to the invention, the
Fig. 6 showing the operating mechanism and
Fig. 7 a bucket controlled by this mechanism, and finally the
Fig. 8 shows a device according to the invention with its arrow, and intended to operate with two vehicles.
It is obvious that the drawings of the device according to the invention represent it very schematically, in order to be able to show more clearly the assembly and the cooperation of the various elements. In practice, the control mechanisms shown are mounted on the vehicle itself, forming therewith a unit, which can without further be coupled, for example to a tractor.
On a vehicle 10 are mounted supports 12 slightly exceeding it and interconnected by a cross member 14. Two of these supports are provided in the example shown, a group at each end of the vehicle.
These supports are used to carry an arrow 16 which can pivot, and here constituted by two arms. Each of these is mounted on a group of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
brackets near one of the side walls of the vehicle. These arms are connected to each other at their free upper ends, by an H-beam suspended so as to be able to pivot freely around its central axis.
At the lower end of one or both boom arms 16, there is mounted a mechanism by means of which the boom can pivot in a reciprocating motion. This mechanism comprises a toothed segment 20, with which a helical wheel 22 is engaged. The latter is connected to a gear comprising two pinions 24 and 26 in mesh with one another. Each of them has a friction crown. A friction wheel 28, connected to a motor not shown, for example, to the journalled socket of a tractor, is mounted so as to be able to tilt, near the pinions 24 and 26, thus being able to be applied at will against the ring gear. friction of either pinion, causing the boom to rotate in either direction.
On the vehicle 10 is also mounted a control mechanism for the bucket 42.It comprises a drum 30 on which can be wound a cable controlling the bucket. The drawings do not show how this drum 30 is connected to the motor. A clutch 32 mounted between the motor and the drum makes it possible to put the latter in an imposed connection with this motor, in this case to wind the cable or to let it run empty. With the aid of a brake constituted by a circular friction ring 34 and a shoe 36, the drum 30 can be braked.
The cable 38 starting from the drum 30 and passing through a certain number of guide pulleys 40, arrives at the boom 16 and at a mechanism 44 mounted on the bucket 42 and making it possible to maneuver the jaws 46 of the bucket 42, this cable then leading to a fixed clip 48 on the H-beam 18.
From the cable 38 is suspended a weight 50, between the boom 16 and the drum. The cable 38 is of a length such that it lets the weight 50 descend into an intermediate position between the guide pulleys 40 and the surface of the ground, when the bucket 42 is on the ground.
Near the rear end of the cable 38 is mounted a fork 52 intended to engage the clutch 32 with the engine, for example by means of a suitable system of levers, and this when the cable is com- pleted. completely unwound from the drum 30 and the lifting begins. The presence of the weight 50 continuously ensures the coupling action of the fork 52, even when, for example, the bucket is resting on a pile of fertilizer and the cable is not completely unwound. In this case, the latter is entirely unwound from the drum 30 by the weight which descends completely to the ground.
In the middle of the upper part of the bucket 42, are mounted two retaining arms 54 connected to the latter so as to be able to pivot. These arms are facing each other, and held close to each other by a spring 56. Their upper ends are slightly bent back and their middle 58 is convex. At this location, each retaining arm is provided on the inside with a jaw 60 comprising a substantially horizontal lower bearing surface 62.
The mutual distance of the retaining arms 54 with the jaws 60, is such that the flanges of the H-beam can move them apart, when with them the bucket 42 is raised against this beam, as well as , by their bearing surface 62, the jaws 60 can engage on the flanges of the beam, so that the retaining arms 54 and consequently the bucket 42, can be retained there, see fig. 3.
The uncoupling mechanism, shown in more detail in figs. 3 to 5, serves to release the jaws 60 of the flanges of the H-beam, when the bucket must be removed again in order to be able to descend. This disconnection mechanism consists of a long elbow member 64 mounted so as to be able to pivot freely on the upper flange of the H-beam, and extending in the longitudinal direction thereof, this member having a part wide 66 and a short part 68. It is suspended in such a way that, by turning, the free end of its part 66 or 68 arrives in view of the beam, extending to close to the side edges of the wings of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the latter, so as to cooperate with the upper ends of the retaining arms 54 which,
as shown in fig. 4, can thus be moved apart, so that the jaws 60 are released from the lower flange of the H-beam.
Two connecting rods 70 and 72 are provided to help the member 64 during this work to wedge itself, and to allow it to move the retaining arms 54 away from one another. The rod 70 is fixed by one of its parts. ends at the pivot of the member 64, while the connecting rod 72 is connected by its free end, in an articulated manner, to the free end of the connecting rod 70, its other end serving to engage it in a recess 74 in the arrow 16 when the latter pivots outward to take up material. When the free end of the connecting rod 72 is engaged in the recess 74, the member 64 is wedged in such a way that it cannot be rotated in the direction of clockwise.
The free end of the connecting rod 72 can be released from the recess 74 when the retaining arms with the jaws 60 are uncoupled from the joist 18, thus allowing the member 64 to pivot freely again, and occupy an upright position when the retaining arms 54 with the jaws 60 are again to be engaged with the flanges of the H-joist 18, the bucket 42 once again to be retained to said joist. Any suitable mechanism can be used to disengage the connecting rod 72 from the recess 74; however, in the present example there is provided a spring operated lever system 76.
The force of this spring is such that it can disengage the free end of the connecting rod 72 from the recess 74, while then allowing this end to slide on the upper side of the boom 16. The action of the spring ceases at the moment. where the jaws 60 are released from the H-beam, and the connecting rod 72 thus released from the pressure.
The free end of the connecting rod 72 can then slide like a pawl, to the right over the recess 74, when the boom 16, with the bucket 42 again filled, raised and retained to the beam 18 during the pivoting. , approaches a vertical position. When the boom pivots after loading, that is to say to the right, the free end of the connecting rod 72 again abuts against the left edge of the recess 74, thus being held there, so that , as already described, the connecting rod 70 is wedged, with the member 64, so as not to be able to turn, in the anti-clockwise direction, and the jaws 60 are released from the H-beam.
A carriage 78 rolls on the wings of the H-beam 18, which can move all along this beam between the arms of the boom 16. This carriage is provided with guide pulleys 40 for the cable 38, the part between these pulleys supports the bucket 42 which can thus, thanks to this carriage, move back and forth between the arms of the jib.
This carriage can for example be controlled by a traction cable, or by means of a shaft on which is mounted a helical wheel able to cooperate with a rack mounted on the carriage. This last embodiment offers the advantage of being able, without special means, to re = hold the bucket in a determined position, because, as known, a helical wheel drive may be irreversible.
Cable traction, or helical wheel control, can be done by hand, but it can also be done with the motor, so that the trolley can move by shocks forward, the bucket thus being at intervals. determined, displaced longitudinally with respect to the H-joist.
The loading device according to the invention operates as follows:
It will be assumed that it is in the position indicated in solid lines on the right in FIG. 1, the bucket being opened and lowered on a pile of fertilizer, and the cable completely unwound from the drum 30, using the weight 50. The fork 52 at the rear end of the cable 38, is used for the clutch
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
32 which connects the drum 30 to the motor, and the lifting begins. Therefore, the weight 50 is first raised to the position shown in phantom, after which the jaws 46 of the bucket 42 close, this- ci being then closed.
The bucket 42 is then raised until its retaining arms 54 are separated from each other by the flanges of the beam in
H, while the bearing surfaces 62 of the jaws 60 come to rest on the lower flanges of the beam, to which the bucket is then suspended.
The drum 30 is then uncoupled from the motor and braked. The friction wheel 28 is at the same time directed against the pinion 26 thus set in rotation, and by means of the pinion 24, the helical wheel 22 and the toothed segment 20 , rotates the boom 16 to the left above the vehicle 10. This movement is achieved by means of a cable 80 and a connecting rod 82 connected to the control mechanism 44 of the bucket 42. The length of the connecting rod
82 is such that the latter exerts traction on the cable 80 when the bin 42 is closed and raised.
To the cable 80 is connected the coupling and braking mechanism of the drum 30, as well as the control mechanism of the friction wheel 28, the latter thus being able, as already said, to be put positively in connection with the pinion. 26.
The bucket 42 having pivoted above the vehicle 10, the friction wheel 28 is again uncoupled from the pinion 26, and directed into a position intermediate between the pinions 24 and 26, and the movement of the boom is interrupted. Since the helical wheel gear 20-22 stops on its own, it is not necessary to provide any particular members to brake the pivoting of the boom. Simultaneously the brake of the drum 30 is released, so that this drum, which is known to be in neutral, can rotate. These operations are carried out with the aid of one or more specific control units, mounted on the boom and controlled by its movement. In the drawings, these components are not particularly shown.
While the bucket 42 pivots above the vehicle 10, the weight 50 is maintained in its upper position, by means not shown.
When the bucket 42 is thus above the vehicle and the drum 30 is in neutral, the weight of the material contained in the bucket 42 causes the jaws 46 to move apart at the same time as the cable unwinds from it. drum of the required length, and the material falls into the vehicle. The weight 50 being retained, it only unwinds the length of cable 38 necessary to open the bucket 42.
This being open, the arrow pivots towards its starting position, due to the fact that the friction wheel 28 is again placed in forced connection with the pinion 24, and this by means of another cable. 86 and another member 88 in the form of a connecting rod, mounted on the control mechanism of the bucket 42. When the latter opens, the member moves back and pulls on the cable 86, which causes application of the friction wheel 28 to the pinion 240
The boom 16 therefore swings again above the fertilizer heap and the weight is released.
As the boom returns to its original position, the organ 64 disconnects the retaining arms 54 from the H-joist 18, so that when the boom has fully rotated and the bucket is to be lowered, the jaws 60 will not are more engaged with the flanges of this joist.
In the position shown in fig. 5, the member 64 occupies the position corresponding to that occupied by the device on the right in FIG. 1. The wide part of the member 64 is situated substantially in a plane parallel to the upper heads of the beam 18 , and the free end of the connecting rod 72 has come out of the recess 74.
If the bucket is raised, the upper ends of the retaining arms 54 come to rest against the free ends of the parts 66 and 68, and rotate the member counterclockwise, until the jaws engage on the flanges of the Ho La joist
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The arrow then pivots to the left, the free end of the connecting rod 72 slides to the right, over the recess 74, in which it is wedged, it wedges again by returning by sliding along the arrow, as already said (see fig. 3 and this when the said arrow pivots again to the right, that is to say it returns to its position above the pile of fertilizer.
Pivoting to the right of the boom 16 obliquely pushes up the connecting rod 72, the connecting rod 70 pivots to the right and the member 64 rotates clockwise to its almost horizontal position, so that 'given its width it moves the retaining arms 54 apart more and more from each other, until the jaws 60 slide off the flanges of the H-beam, see fig 40 The bucket is then no longer suspended in the trash and can be taken down. The member 88 releases the cable 86, which causes the friction wheel to occupy an intermediate position between the pinions 24 and 26, and the outward pivoting of the boom ceases.
It is obvious that the shape and the width of the member 64, as well as the length of the connecting rods 70 and 72, and the place occupied by the recess 74, are provided so as to release the jaws 60 of the beam in H, when the boom has pivoted outward completely or almost, in the position shown on the right in fig. 1.
With the drum still in neutral, the bucket can descend onto the fertilizer heap, and then, as described, be automatically closed, raised and pivoted above the vehicle 10.
As soon as it is started, the device takes material and charges the vehicle continuously, until the connection with the motor is interrupted. The attendant only has to make sure that the bucket is lowered onto the fertilizer and that the vehicle is loaded evenly.
As this work can also be regulated automatically, as already described, it is therefore sufficient to bring the vehicle to the side of the fertilizer heap and switch on the loading device. When, in the case described above, a vehicle is used comprising an automatic unloading mechanism, such as for example an automatic fertilizer spreader, it is obvious that the loading and unloading at the same time as the spreading of the soil. fertilizer, can then be done in a very short time, the tractor driver sufficient to direct the work. On the other hand, costly fixed installations are eliminated at the loading point.
It is advantageous that the shape of the toothed segment 20 is such that in the rest position the jib can pivot completely above the vehicle with the bucket 42, the elements thus being able to rest on the platform of the vehicle. For this purpose, the most advantageous would be to control the friction wheel 28 and provide it with a guide mechanism so that it can be applied by hand against the pinion 24 when the work is to start. This begins with the pivoting of the boom to the right and the lowering of the bucket. When the work is finished, the device can easily be stopped, the boom with the bucket being above the vehicle 10.
Such a loading device mounted on a vehicle can, at short intervals, be used to perform different tasks of loading different materials. In order to be able to use this device to the maximum, it may be advantageous to make the jaws of the bucket in the form of interchangeable elements, so that this bucket can be used at will, for example to pile up fertilizer, beets, potatoes and sand or gravel.
The present invention is of course not limited to the above example. The control members of the bucket and jib mechanisms can be executed in another way, just as the cables 80 and 86 can be replaced by a suitable system of connecting rods or shafts, in this case it is used in the device only the cable 38 from which the bucket 42 and the weight 50 are suspended. The clutch and the brake of the drum can be of any type, as long as they can be controlled in the desired manner.
On the other hand, the swing mechanism of the boom can be executed.

cut otherwise, for example to control the latter hydraulically, or even using cables. Likewise, the gear 24-28 can be of another shape, since any gear known in the art can be used, as long as it allows easily and reliably to change the direction of rotation and to obtain the neutral point.
This offers the advantage of being able to construct the loading device using the most advantageous elements, and of adapting it to different purposes, while its construction can be carried out economically and easily.
Figs. 6 and 7 show by way of example another embodiment of the loading device.
Two pinions 202 and 204, in mesh between them, are suspended so as to be able to turn, in a caliper 200, and each have a friction ring 206 or 2080 The caliper 200 can go up and down Knowing that it occupies its upper or lower position, the friction ring of pinion 204 or pinion 206 is applied against a drive pinion 212, connected to a motor.

204 is connected to a helical wheel 216 intended to cause the arrow 16 of the device to perform a reciprocating movement by means of a toothed segment or of a gear transmission.
To this arrow is connected by an elbow joint 218 a control rod 220 which, at its lower part, near its other end, has a recess 2220 In this one can engage the free end of a lever. 2240 This lever is mounted in the frame of the device so that it can be swiveled
At the lower free end of the lever 224 is fixed one of the ends of a spring 226, the other end of which is fixed to an arm 228.
The cable drum 30 of the device is mounted, via an eccentric, at one end of the arm 228. At its other end is fixed a ratchet arm 230, which can pivot and has nearly its free end, a recess 232 in which one of the arms of an elbow element 234 can engage. The other arm of this element is movably connected by an intermediate member 236 to a coupling shaft 238, which by means of an eccentric is connected to the yoke 200, raised or lowered according to the pivoting of the coupling shaft.
A disconnect spring 240 is fixed at one end to the shaft 228 and at its other end securely to the frame of the device.
The drum 30 is provided with a friction ring allowing it to be frictionally coupled to the drive pinion 2120
A brake shoe 242 suspended by its pivotable upper end is mounted near the drum 30 and can, by means of a spring 244, be applied to the drum. This brake can be moved away from the drum 30, by a system of lever arms 246, cooperating by a stop 248 with the arrow, and thus pushing the brake shoe against the spring 2440
The coupling arm 238 is connected to a guide cable 98 extending towards the bucket over which it can be stretched by means of a rod 94 mounted on this bucket, in a manner described in more detail below.
So that the bucket can be guided relative to its carriage, its upper end carries a guide rod 248, which slides, in a guide, along the carriage 78. This guide rod 248 has only a small length, due to the fact that it should in short only serve as a guide in cooperation with the connecting rod 94. The descent of the bucket above the material to be piled up is carried out mainly by the pivoting of the boom 16, thus arriving to be in a horizontal plane. The guide rod has a recess 250 into which a tooth 252 fixed to the carriage can be engaged so as to be able to pivot.
This tooth is executed in the form of a lever with two arms,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
biased by a spring, and can be disengaged from the recess 250 by the traction of the chain 254 connected to the jaws of the bucket and of a defined length, as more fully described below.
The device works as follows:
The boom is assumed to be in the starting position above the vehicle, with its bucket fully open and fully lowered, so that the guide rod 248 is fully extended.
The drive pinion 212 rotates, and a lever 256 retains the caliper 200 in a position such that neither the pinion 202 nor the pinion 204 are, by their friction ring, in contact with the wheel 2120 To start the device, the lever 256 is withdrawn and brought down by a spring eccentrically connected to the caliper 200, the pinion 202 thus entered, by its friction ring 206, in contact with the pinion 212, and the arrow then pivots towards inside, that is to the left in the figure. The guide rod 220, connected to the arrow, is at the same time pulled to the left, and the recess 222 of the guide rod wedges the upper free end of the lever 224 and rotates the latter in the direction. counterclockwise.
This puts tension on the spring 226 which, however, cannot transmit its energy to the latching arm 230, the latter not being able to move to the right, because the left arm of the elbow element 234 is engaged in. its recess 232.
The boom having pivoted sufficiently to the left, the open bucket touching the ground, it will continue to pivot slightly so that the link 94 on the bucket is in relation to the boom pushed a little upwards in order to be able to pull on the cable 98. This pulls the coupling arm 238 slightly to the left to substantially the center, this movement having the first effect of raising the caliper 200 in an intermediate position, not allowing the pinion 202 , nor to the pinion 204 to be in contact with the drive wheel, which stops the movement of the boom, after which said movement is transmitted by the intermediate member 236 to the elbow member 234 which thus rotates in counterclockwise, the left arm of this elbow element 234 thus being released from the recess 232 of the latching arm 230.
The spring 226, which is more powerful than the spring 240, can then move, via the arm 228, the drum 30 to the right against the driving pinion 212, so that it can begin to wind the cable used to. close and open the bucket. The spring 240 is tensioned simultaneously.
During the closing and lifting of the bucket in a position very close to the carriage 78, the traction generated by the arm 94 on the cable 98 and the coupling arm 238, will become so strong that the latter will be pulled to the left. against the resistance of the spring 258, the pinion 204 thus being brought into contact with the drive pinion 212, and the pivoting of the boom 16 begins when the bucket is full.
At the same time, an adjustable stopper 260 pushes the guide rod 220 upward on the coupling arm 238, so that the recess 222 in the connecting rod no longer wedges the free end of the lever, and the spring 226 engages. relaxes, after which the spring 240 can, through the arm 228, pull the drum 30 to the left, disengaging it from the driving pinion 212 and pressing it against the brake shoe 242, the drum being thus stopped and braked .
The pivoting of the boom 16 to the right continues until it occupies the desired position, where the stop 248 releases the brake, given that by means of the lever arm system 246 it pushes it aside. - bot 242 of drum 30. The bucket opens, the weight of the material it contains being able to unwind the cable of drum 30. At the same time, it goes down a little, until tooth 252 s 'engages in the recess 250 of the guide rod 248. The weight of the contents of the bucket can thus move the jaws completely apart from one another and thereby ensure efficient emptying of the bucket, which is particularly important when loading with sticky material, such as clay.
As during this partial descent of the bucket with its connecting rod 94, the cable has loosened enough for the spring 258 to be able to pull the caliper 200 into the intermediate position, none of the pinions thus attacking the pinion. trained
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
neur 212, the arrow 16 is also stationary at the time of emptying
The chain 254 is of such a length, and it is connected to the bucket in such a way, that it is able to withdraw the tooth 252 of the discharge 250, when the jaws of the bucket are fully open;
the latter with its connecting rod 94 then descends completely and the cable 98 is fully relaxed, which allows the spring 258 to again completely withdraw the caliper 200 downwards, and to couple the pinion by friction.
202 with the pinion 212, the arrow 16 thus pivoting again.
It is also possible to mount on the caliper 200 instead of it being on the bucket, a device similar to the delay system 250,252 2540
In order to ensure efficient filling of the bucket, it may be advantageous to ensure that the tooth 252 does not engage in the recess 250, only when the device is in the unloading position. To this end, it may be desirable that in the engaged position, the tooth 252 is retained out of the recess, for example by means of a suitable mechanism which is controlled in dependence on the position of the arrow 16.
This mechanism is not shown here.
The position of the bucket alongside the vehicle is changed using a worm gear
It is preferable that the radius of the pinion 202 controlling the pivoting of the boom to the left is greater than that of the pinion 204 controlling the pivoting to the right, this first movement with the bucket empty then taking place more quickly than the second. .
In some cases, it may be desirable to control part of the movement of the loading device by hand. If, in this eventuality, it is desired to be able to control the drum 30 independently of the movements of the boom, it is advantageous to interrupt the connection of the intermediate member 236, and to replace this member with a handle enabling the hand the working movement of said intermediate organ. If, on the other hand, it is desired to control the movements of the boom by hand, it is for example possible to interrupt the cable connection 98 between the bucket and the coupling arm 238, and to move the latter by hand.
It is obvious that this device and its control members can be modified in different ways, without departing from the scope of the present invention. Instead of being designed in a vertical plane, the device can also be executed in a vertical plane. horizontal plane to pivot back and forth, for example if it is mounted on the fixed bridge of a crane and it must pivot from a store to and above a vehicle. The control mechanism of the device can also be executed so that the boom is placed for example in the center of a vehicle, and can pivot both left and right. It is also possible to electrically control the boom and bucket mechanisms.
Sometimes it is sufficient to use a single-arm boom, and carriage 78 is also eliminated.
When the device is for example mounted on a motor vehicle, it may be advantageous for the boom to be telescopic, so that it can be retracted into itself in order to reduce its bulk as much as possible, for example in consideration of the garage height
Not only do these measures allow a truck to be loaded in a relatively short time, but also the boom can be controlled so that a possible trailer can be loaded by the same device.
To this end, it may be advantageous to increase the reach of the jib of the crane, so that the latter can be directed above another vehicle located for example behind the first, on which the dis- positive est monteo To perform such work, the boom can for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
be telescopic, which is stretched when it swivels with the bucket loaded above the vehicle so that its swing radius is increased and in this way it can pivot the bucket over the vehicle and the other side wall , where the bucket is overturned to empty its contents into the other vehicle.
This increase in the range of the device can also be achieved by other means. Fig. 8 shows one of these embodiments. It schematically represents a cross section of a vehicle.
U 400 irons are mounted on the longitudinal sides of the latter, open outwards and intended to serve as a guide for a small bridge extending transversely above the platform of the vehicle and having to carry the control mechanism. of the arrow. This bridge is formed by one or more sleepers 402. A bar 404 projecting from each end of one of these sleepers is connected by its lower end to the U bars 400.
The boom 16 is articulated at 408 to the vehicle. The control mechanism of the device is housed in a small carriage 410 which can roll from left to right and vice versa on the cross member 402 and articulated to the boom at a point between point 408 and the end of the boom carrying the bucket. born.
The device is automatic in that the carriage 410 can roll to the right of the drawing, the bucket being loaded and closed, and thus draw the arrow 16 in the same direction until, as shown in dotted lines on Fig. 8, the body has swiveled completely over the vehicle and is suspended outside on the other side of the vehicle. The skip is then released, thus being able to unload its contents, for example into another vehicle.
Instead of being on the superstructure of the vehicle, the pivot point can also be provided on the carriage 410. The chassis 402, 404 can also roll on the vehicle if, as shown in the drawing, the lower end of the each upright 404 is fitted with a wheel 406 facing the vehicle and intended to roll in the irons U 400.
If, for example, the loading device is mounted at the front end of a two-wheeled agricultural cart, that end being connected to a tractor on which it rests, it may be desirable to prop up the truck. loading device or the trolley, so that the frame of the latter is not subjected to too much torsional forces when the body is loaded and raised again. With such shoring provided, we will have at the same time the advantage that the body can lift a more important load than usual, without running the danger of bending the infrastructure of the vehicle. This also affords the advantage that the coupling between the vehicle and the tractor is less strained, than if the vehicle yielded freely to the eccentricity effect to which it is subjected when a full bucket hangs from it. outside.
This shoring can be achieved in any suitable manner, for example by means of jacks or crutches.
The use of a loading device according to the invention, whether mounted on a truck or a trailer, makes it possible to do away with fixed loading installations, wherever materials have to be loaded. The device can do the work of several people in a fraction of the time it would take them to charge.
The use of the device is not limited to mounting on a vehicle, because it can also be mounted on a fixed support, for example in a coal site, the driver of the vehicle to be loaded putting the device himself in operation when wishes to load his vehicle.
