du type sans aération, convenant comme brûleur de gaz combustibles, sera décrit ci-après plus en détail en référence au dessin annexé, dont la fig 1 est une vue en plan du brûleur; la fig. 2 est une coupe du bruleur, établie à échelle agrandie; la fig. 3 est une élévation de face d'un tube brûleur;
Dans une méthode convenable de fabrication, les tubes brûleurs sont confectionnés à l'aide d'une bande d'acier inoxydable qui est conformée en un tube de section droite elliptique,après quoi les bords rapprochés ou en contact de la bande sont réunis par soudure à l'arc. .Le tube est alors coupé en longueurs telles que requises et reçoit la courbure voulueo L'extrémité de chaque tube qui doit être attachée à la conduite-mère ou distri- butrice est amenée à une section circulaire et redressée à la forme rectiligne sur la partie 6 de sa longueur pénétrant dans la conduite-mère ou dis - tributrice Après montage;

IMPROVEMENTS TO GAS FUEL BURNERS.
The invention relates to gaseous fuel burners, the plan configuration of which must be practically circular, and relates in particular although not exclusively to gaseous fuel burners for water heaters.
In a known type of ventless burner which is substantially circular in plan, a number of burner tubes extend from a central boss to which they are secured. Each of the tubes is drilled at intervals to provide orifices, and these tubes are curved in a curve the radius of curvature of which increases with the distance from the central boss.
It has been found that the flame characteristics of this type of burner are not entirely satisfactory.
It is an object of the invention to provide a gaseous fuel burner of the kind in question having improved flame characteristics and which can be made of durable material.
In accordance with the present invention, a gaseous fuel burner of the kind in question has a central boss from which a number of perforated burner tubes stand out, each of which is in plan view., Curved in shape with a radius of curvature which is substantially constant over the major part. portion of the length of the tube and., substantially semi-circular.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the burner tubes are semi-circular, and made of a corrosion resistant material such as stainless steel, and have a cross section which is approximately elliptical. The portion of each burner tube which is fixed in the main or distributor pipe is of circular section to facilitate assembly
As an example of the invention, a gas fuel burner

of the unvented type, suitable as a combustible gas burner, will be described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, of which FIG. 1 is a plan view of the burner; fig. 2 is a section of the burner, drawn up on an enlarged scale; fig. 3 is a front elevation of a burner tube;
and, FIG. 4 is a plan view, partly in section, of a burner tube.
The burner has a central boss 1 (shown in fig. 2), one end 2 of which is closed while the other end is attached to a supply duct using an internally threaded ring 3.
In the vicinity of its closed end., The boss 1 comprises a certain number, and, in a particular example, ten equally spaced holes, 4, drilled radially around its periphery In each hole fits one end of a burner tube 5 (figs. 3 and 4), consisting of a stainless steel tube bent in a semicircle, and of approximately elliptical cross section except for part 6 of the tube which enters the mother or distributor conduit, where the cross section is circular. In addition, part 6 penetrating the boss is rectilinear. The end 7 of each tube which is remote from its junction with the mother or distributor pipe is also rectilinear and it is closed if necessary in any suitable manner.
In a suitable method of manufacture, the burner tubes are made using a strip of stainless steel which is shaped into an elliptical cross section tube, after which the close or contacting edges of the strip are welded together. archery. The tube is then cut into lengths as required and given the desired curvature. The end of each tube which is to be attached to the main or distribution line is brought to a circular section and straightened to the rectilinear shape on the part. 6 of its length entering the main or distribution pipe After assembly;
the tubes are fixed in place by soldering, or other suitable method., and the assembly is then placed on a machine perching the tubes of the desired number of burner orifices 3 and closing off the ends 7 of the tubes
It will be observed that the burners of the invention provide a greater aeration space where it is most necessary, that is to say in the ring between the central and peripheral portions of the burner. The jets of the peripheral portion tend to deprive of air those of the jets located in this ring. This tendency is corrected in burners according to the invention by providing the maximum air space between the burner tubes in said ring '. In addition, the absence of small radii compared to the known construction referred to above, facilitates the manufacture of the burner tubes in a hard material such as stainless steel.
The elliptical cross section of the tubes makes these tubes easier to bend and also improves aeration. The well known characteristics of stainless steel make a burner made of this material stronger and more corrosion resistant but, in addition, allows the burner orifices to be drilled more precisely. Also, the gas flow rate through the orifices is greater for a given pressure drop due to the reduced thickness of the web from which the burner tubes are made.
It will be understood that the invention can also be applied to aeration burners.
