Fig. 2 montre le réservoir vu du cote de l'organe de ,purge;
Fig. 3 est une vue en élévation de l'appareil de purge en position de fermeture;
Figo4 est une vue en plan analogue;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

PURGE TANK DEVICE FOR COMPRESSED AIR CANALIZATION FOR COALING AND OTHER MINING OPERATIONS.
The air which is sent to the various operating sites in the mines is generally charged, as a result of condensation, of humidity or of water which is commonly removed by means of bleed valves fitted to the ventilation pipes at different places. This results in two significant drawbacks.
In the first place, the purges cannot generally be done without simultaneously causing a loss of compressed air; secondly, these purges require monitoring which is often made difficult and therefore not carried out with the necessary regularity.
The present invention tends to eliminate these drawbacks by providing along the pipes one or more reservoirs of suitable dimensions in which the water collects, which is then automatically expelled therefrom by a purge device of particular construction.
The drawing appended to this specification shows, by way of example only, a reservoir device provided with an apparatus according to the invention. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal elevational view of the tank
Fig. 2 shows the reservoir seen from the side of the purge member;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the purge apparatus in the closed position;
Figo4 is a similar plan view;
Fig. 5 is a 5-5 cut through the purge valve of Fig. 3.
In one or more carefully chosen places of the compressed air pipe 1 serving the various sites of the mine, this pipe is connected by pipe fittings 2 with a reservoir.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
see 3 with a capacity determined by the operating conditions, Instead of straight fittings 2, one could possibly use conical nozzles in the form of panties making it possible to easily bring the water from the pipe 1 into the tank 3. The latter can rest on the floor or on suitable hooks by means of glides 4.
The reservoir 3 has on one of its external faces a pipe 5 terminated by a flange 5 'on which is bolted a vertical circular plate 6, which fits on the other hand by its base 7 in said pipe with the interposition of a seal.
On this plate 6 is fixed by means of bolts 8 a stirrup-shaped support 9 disposed perpendicular to said plate and composed of two parallel branches 9 '.
A second stirrup-shaped support, composed of two parallel arms 10, and inside the first, can pivot about a transverse axis 11 carried by the branches 90 At the end of this second support is mounted, in an adjustable manner by a bolt 12, a lever 13 carrying at its opposite end a float 14 also mounted in an adjustable manner. An axis 15 integral with this support drives, during the pivoting of the latter around the axis 11, a fork 16 forming one of the upper branches of a T-shaped part while also pivoting on the axis 11.
This T-shaped part actuates by the rotation of its lower branch 17 a purge valve which, as can be seen in Fig. 5, in this case consists of a tubular body 18, one end of which comprises an annular chamber 19. pierced with passage orifices 20 for the water to be evacuated communicating with a second chamber 21 closed by a valve seat 22 made of steel, rubber or other material, provided with a water evacuation orifice 23. The tubular body 18 passes through the plate 6 and is in connection with an evacuation pipe by means of a pipe 24.
In the tubular body 18 can slide axially a hollow valve rod 25 pierced transversely with holes 26 and carrying at one of its ends a valve 27 of conical shape serving to close the discharge orifice 23. This hollow rod 25 is itself traversed by a second rod 28 extending into a head 29 and actuated by the lower branch 17 of the fork 16. It also carries at one of its ends a shut-off valve 30 for an orifice 31 pierced axially in the valve 27 The rod 28 can drive the rod 25 in its movement by virtue of a pin 32 sliding in buttonholes 33 formed in the latter rod.
The tubular body 18 is closed at its inner end by a cap 34 pierced with an opening for the passage of the rod 28, which cap, under the action of a spring 35, normally tends to open the discharge valve. by acting on the head 29, but the effort of which is thwarted by the branch 17 of the fork 16 also acting on this head 29.
The fork 16 is connected by one of the upper branches of the T-shaped part to an axis 36 capable of sliding during the pivoting of the fork at 11, in a curved groove 37 provided in the branches 9 'of the caliper 9. On this axis 36 is also mounted a caliper with two branches 38 pivoting about an axis 39.
The latter carries one end of a support in the form of a stirrup with two parallel arms 40, external to the parallel branches 9 'of the stirrup 9 and the other end of which is connected to a pin 41 integral with a support 42 receiving a counterweight 430 This support 42 can pivot around the axis 44 mounted on the parallel branches 9 '
In the normal rest position, the purge device occupies the position shown in Fig. 30 When the level of the water, having entered the tank 3 through the pipe fittings 2, rises, the float 14 rises at the same time and rotates the fork 16 around
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
axis 11 by means of axis 15. This fork, in its movement,
drives the valve stem via the lower branch 17
28 and the valve 30 out of its seat 27, which allows the water entering the tubular body 18 through the orifices 20 and through the rod 25 through the orifices 26 to escape through the orifices 31 and 23. This results in a partial evacuation of the water.
In its movement, the valve stem 28, at the moment when the pin 32 having slid in the buttonholes 33 will come into contact with the rear edges of these, will cause the stem 25 and the valve 27 to the left (Fig. 5). which, leaving its seat 22, will allow the water to drain directly much more quickly through the orifice 23.
The fork 16, while rotating, acts by means of the branches
38 on the arms 40 and thus tilt the counterweight 43 '
As the water level decreases, the float 14 will lower to return to its normal position and the fork 16 acting in the opposite direction on the valve stem 28 will apply the valves 30 and 27 to their respective seats.
It is understood that it is possible to make purely constructive modifications to the purge apparatus described above without departing from the scope of the invention. It would thus be possible to obtain a purging apparatus operating not horizontally as shown in the accompanying drawing, but vertically.
It goes without saying that the purge device is made of a material which cannot be attacked by acids and other corrosives, therefore either bronze or an equivalent material.
