<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

COATING BLOCK, MORE SPECIFICALLY FOR DRIVE TRACKS.
The subject of the invention is a paving element more especially for motorized roads and similar areas. This element is of the type of blocks or pavers with lateral interlocking elements. These blocks are generally made of agglomerate cement.
A certain number of such blocks are known in which the side faces have hollow parts and projecting parts allowing partial interpenetration of the adjacent elements. Said protruding and re-entrant parts are present either in the middle part of the block, or over its entire height, or only over a part thereof. In the latter case, said re-entrant and protruding parts are arranged alternately either in different planes or in the same plane.
In these latter embodiments, the block then appears as if it were constituted by two superimposed blocks, one of which is perfectly prismatic and the other of which has molded side faces.
The present invention therefore relates to blocks of the latter type.
Furthermore, many blocks are also known which have a hexagonal shape in plan, which is also adopted in the block which is the subject of the invention.
Nevertheless, the Applicant has found that, in general, in blocks with a polygonal shape and more especially with a hexagonal shape, it was advantageous to condition all the side faces in an identical manner with the double aim of making the placement much better. more convenient and also with a view to giving the coatings a practically perfect homogeneity, in particular when one or more blocks are strongly stressed, the specific pressure on the neighboring blocks being appreciably reduced due to the transfer of the stress to a maximum number of blocks and the regularity of this postponement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For this purpose, the element, object of the invention, is in the form of a prismatic block with a hexagonal base, each face of which has, over part of its height, one or more projecting parts and one or more re-entrant parts. , the six side faces being identical.
These characteristics are described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which; FIG. 1 represents the block, object of the invention, in plan view; Figure 2 is a section taken on line II-II of Figure 1; Figures 3 and 4 show parts of a block; Figure 5 is a perspective view of the block in its placement position; Figure 6 is a perspective view of the upturned block; Figure 7 is a plan view of a coating portion; Figures 8 and 9 show, in cross section, two coatings; FIGS. 10, 11 and 12 represent, in front view, three variant embodiments of the element which is the subject of the invention.
This element is therefore constituted by a body 1 of prismatic shape with a hexagonal base. The six side faces are profiled in an identical manner and comprise a flat part 2 and a molded part having a projection 1 and a hollow 4 ;. Preferably, these protruding and re-entering parts are joined by an inclined wall 5.
By this arrangement, it is obtained that all the faces having a projecting part and a re-entrant part are treated in exactly the same way.
The blocks thus conditioned are placed contiguous as shown in FIG. 7. They will be laid on stable foundations.
Depending on the nature of the underlying soil and the expected loads, said foundations will be formed by a gravel covered with a layer of sand or simply by a bed of sand or they will be carried out in any suitable manner. The actual installation is done by simultaneous translation and rotation in the construction plane. To determine the edges of the coatings, use will advantageously be made of portions of blocks 6-7 as represented in FIGS. 3 and 4 which are obtained by cutting off said block, respectively by lines III-III and IV-IV represented in FIG. 1.
These blocks and portions of blocks forming the coating are clamped between special uprights (not shown) which allow rapid assembly and disassembly of the panels thus formed.
Such blocks can be produced according to numerous variants resulting, for example, as shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 10, 11 and 12, from the relationship between the heights h-h ', respectively of the flat parts and of the molded parts of the side faces of the block and the total height H of the latter. These blocks may also include the molding, that is to say projecting parts and re-entrant parts, only on certain side faces. These same blocks, according to their variants, can be executed in any suitable material such as concrete, terracotta, asphalt, wood, rubber, glass and others. They can be used for making structures arranged in a plane, as shown schematically in Figure 8, or curved structures, as shown schematically in Figure 9.
They can, therefore, be used for the coating of all areas such as roads, tracks, sidewalks, courtyards, factory halls, quays, dikes, aerodromes, vaults, tanks, silots, armed or not.
Finally, these same blocks can still be used in the prefabricated construction of building elements such as walls, partitions and others. The dimensions

sions will be determined by the applications and the nature of the materials used.
