Abstract
Paving blocks for the formation of paving by which it is avoided cracks produced by flexing, or expansion and contraction on continuous pavings or large paving flags, and repair and replacement is readily and easily done. These blocks are prefabricated in concrete, ceramic, plastic or other materials, upper part of which presents a prismatic shape with a regular polygonal section, preferably hexagonal, and with the lower part provided with curved surface depressions and protrusions that determine and allow at the same time for their linkage and articulation.

Alberi PATENTED AUGB'I l97| SHEET 1 [IF 2 PAVING BLOCKS The purpose of the present invention is to allow for the formation of paving by means of the application of a number of a succession of blocks prefabricated in concrete, ceramic, plastic or other materials, which upper part presents a prismatic shape with a regular polygonal section, preferably hexagonal, and with the lower part provided with curved surface depressions and protrusions that determine and allow at the same time for their linkage and articulation, determining a high paving stability and resiliency, because in such a way, they are linked to each other, and being articulated, but not independent.
With the use of the present blocks, cracks produced by flexing, or expansion and contraction on continuous pavings or large paving flags are avoided; at the same time, repair and replacement is readily and easily done, as it is possible to use up almost all the material; and paving can be put to use immediately, as the binding material must not give rigidity.
The fact of being prefabricated, allows for a higher perfection in manufacture than if they were manufactured on site.
With the purpose of making easier the exact interpretation of the object to which the present patent applies, on the complementary attached drawing of the present description a practical way for the industrial realization is shown, but only for information purposes and, therefore, not in an exhaustive way.
On the said drawing:
FIG. I shows a view of the block, object of the present registration.
'FIG. 2 is an example of the setting of the blocks as seen from above.
FIG. 3 is an example of the setting of the blocks as seen from below.
FIG. 4 shows a I-I section indicated in FIG. 2.
FIG. Sis a II-II section, indicated in the same FIG. 2.
In the above figures, the references apply to:
1. Upper part of block,
2. Bevel of upper edges.
3. Lower depression.
4, Lower protrusion.
5. The stepping arrangement established by protrusions 4.
6. Interior stepping arrangement produced by depressions As can be noted from a careful observation of the abovementioned drawing, and particularly from FIG. 1, the block, object of the present registration, made by molding in several materials, e.g., concrete, ceramics, plastics, etc., consists of an upper l prismatic regular hexagonal part which upper edges are beveled 2; the lower half is provided with depressions 3 and protrusions 4, with curved side surfaces, which radius corresponds to the circle circumscribed to the hexagonal section; such depressions 3 and protrusions 4 are arranged on two successive sides, and confronted respectively, while two other sides equally confronted are completely flat.
The protrusions 4 determine an upper stepping arrangement 5 respective of the corresponding upper flat side and the depressions 3 form an inside stepping arrangement 6; such stepping arrangements 5 and 6 present a complementary rake or expedient, as may be seen in the section shown in FIG. 5.
In this way, on forming the paving, the blocks are juxtaposed in such a way that the depressions 3 are complemented with the protrusions 4 and forming a sleeper-type joint, and being coupled to each other with an articulate characteristic but not independent, with which a high stability and resiliency is obtained in pavings assembled in this way, and which will be joined with a binding product that will not produce rigidity.
lclaim:
l. A paving block for use in forming a pavement, said block having the general shape of a prismatic regular hexagon having six sidewalls, wherein: the upper lane edges of said block are beveled; the lower half of sa1d.b ock 1S laterally provided with a pair of curved depressions and a pair of curved protrusions, the radii of said curved depressions and protrusions being equal to the radius of the imaginary cylinder circumscribed about the prism, said depressions being arranged on two opposite sidewalls, said protrusions being arranged on two opposite sidewalls; and wherein two opposite sidewalls are flat planar surfaces.
2. A paving block as defined in claim I, wherein the upper surfaces of said protrusions and the lower surfaces of the portion of said block extending over said depressions are provided with a complementary rake to facilitate coupling between depressions and protrusions of the juxtaposed blocks.
